"The most amazing thing...it blew me away"

Listening to the podcast and I'm only 8 minutes in. You're talking about the Backstage ABD that you all recently went on. While I enjoy hearing what a great time you had, it's kind of a tease when you talk about "the most amazing thing" and "it totally blew me away" and "it moved me to tears". I know that Pete and Co. want to keep this as a surprise for future ABD'ers, but is there any way at all that you can do a short little segment to talk about these amazing things that y'all see or have seen? I don't know if you're not allowed to talk about them (which is fine, in that case), but there are probably thousands of listeners that will never be able to do a Backstage ABD trip and would love to hear about all these fascinating things that you get to experience. And for those that don't want to know about them, they just don't have to download that segment.

I was hoping they'd give a spoiler alert and tell us what they saw as well. Just because they tell us what they saw doesn't mean that we won't still go on another tour. Seeing something in person is much better than hearing about it or even seeing a photo of it.

If they saw something proprietary at Imagineering, which could very well be the case, then that's another matter.

I would also love to hear about it. DH and I have wanted to do Backstage Magic for a couple of years now but haven't been able to afford it yet. Hearing about the special moments will just give us more incentive to continue saving up so we can go!!

ABD likes to keep somethings a secret and those things change from trip to trip.

We have requested that the folks that were on the recent (and past) trip not post the special things they have seen. This maintains that joy of discovery for those on future trips.

Unfortunately, you (hopefully) wont read about these surprises on the Dis Boards or anywhere else.

As for it being a tease......telling all of the secrets of this trip would be akin to giving away the surprise ending to a suspenseful movie. It's my opinion most people dont want that to happen.

I will say this.

As a person who honestly doesn't care about spoilers, I'm so glad that I didn't read any trip reports or watch any videos beforehand.

You can ask the 10 people that were surrounding me during World of Color. My jaw was literally unhinged. It wouldn't have been that way had I known in advance. The same premise goes for the secrets at Imagineering.

With all that being said, the reason I don't want to say anything (well beyond the fact that we were told not to), is that my understanding is that these surprises had never been done before. I'm sure that after the (well-deserved) kudos that Pete, Kevin, and the whole rest of our group gave them, that they will continue to do something above and beyond for DIS groups.

However, it IS Disney.... and it IS Imagineering. Their goal is to blow you away. For how awesome it was, it wouldn't shock me if they go into the vault and find even cooler things to show/do during next year's trips. So it is for THAT reason, that I don't want to tell people. There's no guarantee that they'll do these same surprises again, and I wouldn't want to get peoples hopes up. (Especially with the expectation game these days... they could bring out Walt's cryogenic head, but if that isn't what Kevin said he saw... :mckaylanotimpressed

However, I will vouch that I was standing literally right next to Kevin. And he was, in fact, reduced to tears. And come on people, you really thought you'd get the beans spilt... it's in his title. Such a tease!

It depends on the person. When people say oh it was incredible, it was amazing but I'm sworn to secrecy, it just drive me up the wall. But that's me.

On some tv show websites you have people who love spoilers (ME) and people who want to be totally surprised. It's why on these website people have to put spoiler alerts on their title threads.

I'm already wanting to go with the shopping stop at Glendale but right now it's in the realm of things I can't afford financially.

But I do understand the show's want to keep it a wonderful surprise but still there's that wall.

Some people look so forward to these special events, that when they don't happen, the people are truly upset, and express how their vacation has been ruined because they either got something else or nothing.

I know that there are people who really don't want to be surprised, but I think that not telling is also a favor to them so that they do not have certain expectations that may not come to fruition.

I think that Kevin, et al, absolutely are making the right decision in not disclosing certain details of their trip.

It's one of the reasons we have stopped letting folks know when a surprise might be coming for any event.

This leads to guessing and it escalates to Diane Disney Miller is giving everyone Disney stock and annual passes for life and that we are bringing Walt back to life.

When we finally make the announcement of something we think is pretty freaking cool, it can be met with disappointment because due to the guessing...the expectation has been raised so high.

We cant promise another group will be able to see the exact same things we saw. We hope they can, but we cant promise and this could lead to disappointment.

Sorry, I'm not sharing the secrets and I sincerely hope no one else does either.

I went out of my way to avoid reading any trip report spoilers before this trip. I am SOOOOO glad I did not buckle. It would be very unfair for anyone to unveil the surprises and secrets that really make this trip special.

....and the surprises at Imagineering were, as Pete told me passing on the sidewalk, going to make you(me) have to change your(my) underwear. Well, I picked a bad day to not wear underwear.

I don't disagree with you. I think you make a valid point. I just wish that sometimes they would do a "SPOILER ALERT" podcast and tell us some of these neat things. I completely understand what you are saying and I believe that you understand what I am saying.

Andy, Mike, Chelle and myself all just travelled on this recent BSM and have all explained that being surprised was a huge part of this trip. All have stated that they didnt read trip reports in order to maintain that element of surprise.

As the folks going on the next trips have paid thousands of dollars for their trip, I believe we all owe them the favor of keeping ABD's secret surprises.

You can see where it might lead to disappointment on the part of a paying guest to not see the same jaw dropping things we saw on this last trip....and the BSM trips are always different. I have guests signed up for their third, fourth, fifth and sixth trips....because they are always different.

I've explained this to the best of my ability and I'm going to stick with what I have already posted.

I apologize for your disappointment, but I will not give away the secrets and I am hoping no one else will either.

As much as I would love to hear what the surprises were, I am SO glad that you have the policy that you have. If I ever get to go on an ABD trip I want to be surprised, I also don't want to expect something that might not happen.

Understand your policy totally, but gotta admit to curiosity.

That being said, there are many of us who will never be able to afford an ABD trip, and live vicariously through the podcast. From that viewpoint, it's disappointing.

I can sympathize with your thoughts here. Because of my work schedule and limitations, I can't cruise during much of the year. When the first few podcast cruises were reviewed, it was difficult for me to listen to those segments (I even skipped some) being that I could not attend. With that being said, I like the balance that has been given when discussing the ABD trips: secrets remain secret and more common knowledge is shared.
