The Melting Pot restaurant ** UPDATE POST 42 **

::yes:: It just opened a few months ago. It's right across the street from the Court (where Pier1 Imports is). They opened a whole new section of stores there. Not sure where the one in Chestnut Hill is... I'm guessing somewhere on Germantown Ave??

Yup that is exactly where it is! :goodvibes

*** UPDATE ***

Just back... it was delicious!!!! For $30 (girl's night out special) we got the cheese, salad, the main course (shrimp, chicken, steak & ravioli) & the chocolate dessert. It was so nice and took 2 1/2 hours!!!!

Loved it... I think we are going to make it a monthly get together :woohoo:

It's been a few years, but I loved it, especially the dessert portion. If I'm not mistaken, we had 2 pots of chocolate; one was a yin yang-lookin' thing with white chocolate and dark chocolate, and the other was white chocolate with Amaretto in it. It was amazing.

Have fun!

That is an AWESOME deal! Glad that you liked it and will be trying it again! :goodvibes

Oh I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!!! That sounds like a great deal for all that you got! I'm going to set up a girls night at ours right now! And please tell me that someone ordered the Yin Yang drink. :cheer2:

I have always wanted to try this place!
I'm going to be in St Louis in about 10 days...could I go by myself or would that be weird?:confused3

I guess I could stop in for a Yin Yang drink.:cool2:

I'll go with you!!!! Maybe we could have a mini-DIS meet. Two other St. Louisans have posted on this thread

Unfortunately not but there were several sweetheart martini's that went around. We did get the Ying Yang chocolate dessert however :hyper: .

My DH and I are talking about going to a Melting Pot. What's this thing where you cook your own meat? I'm not too sure about that idea!

They gave us each a plate with 3 raw shrimp, 3 raw pieces of steak, 3 raw pieces of chicken and a ravioli along with "community" plates of potatoes, broccoli and squash. The "pots" had what I think was a vegetable broth and you put the raw items into the broth for a few minutes to cook. I had to skip that part because I would have started to dry heave if they put the raw meat in front of me :headache: . Everyone else said that part was very good.

There is one in Grand Rapids and that's just over an hour drive from us, so we're thinking of going for our anniversary (9/27). I went to the web site and it can get kind of expensive, but for an anniversary I wouldn't mind spending the money and would love to try it as we do enjoy fondue and haven't had it in ages. The "girls night out" would be fun too.

After being given the idea from the DIS boards, my mother and I decided to go to the Melting Pot last night, just 15 minutes away from us. I had been wanting to go for about 2 years, but we never went becase:

1. It was very far away (they just built a new one near us)
2. It's extremely expensive (we just had to splurge :goodvibes )

When we arrived, we loved how relaxed and quiet the place was. Every table was extremely private- you couldn't see anyone else. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful in going over the huge, complicated menu. We decided to do the Big Night Out, as it was our first time and we wanted to try everything.

My mother had the Santa Margarita, which she loved. Nobody tried the Yin Yang- sorry about that.;)

We started with the cheddar cheese fondue, which was delicious. :goodvibes It was so much fun to dip things in- I mainly used the bread-cubes. I had to stop eating to save room for everything else.

I skipped the next part, but my mother had the Mandarin and Almond salad. She thought it was just ok- it wasn't her favorite part.

Then, we were served the Fondue Fusion entree with the Bourguignonne. It, again, was delicious. I absolutely loved the teriyaki steak, and I even put the teriyaki sauce on the filet mignon. The lobster tail wasn't very good, surprisingly, but the waiter told us that it tastes better with the Court Bouillon. Also, cooking our own food was hard- we did not have a watch with a second hand, and we were not going to count in our heads for our entire meal. We ended up just checking the food every once in a while, and we ended up with only a few mess-ups. Next time, I'm bringing a stopwatch.

Next came the dessert. We ordered the Flaming Turtle, which is milk chocolate, caramel, and pecans mixed together, and flambeed at the table. The presentation was definitely amazing. There were a variety of things to dip:

-Oreo covered marshmallows
-Graham cracker covered marshmallows
-Strawberries
-Pound cake
-Cheesecake
-Banana slices
-Pineapple
-Brownies

I mostly ate the oreo covered marshmallows. We ended up getting refills of those, plus the strawberries. It was very good- I just wish there were different things to dip. Maybe plain marshmallows, pretzels, or sugar cookies? Still, we loved it.

Next came the bill. I believe it was about $110. The expense is the only bad part of the experience. Next time, we might skip the salad and the entree, or use the coupon we recieved from joining Club Fondue and get free dessert with an entree for two or four course meal.

So, in short, we LOVED  the Melting Pot, and will try to scrape up the money to go there every once in a while.

We just went today! OMG, I am so hooked, but it kills the budget.

DH and I got a big -- and I mean B I G -- Yin Yang drink to share. We couldn't even finish it. I think 4 people could have drank that thing.

We decided to get the Big Night Out since we really didn't know what we were doing. Our waiter was awesome and was so informative about the whole thing. We got the cheddar cheese fondue, then the California salad (I'll skip the Gorgonzola next time... bleh! :crazy2:). We got the Fondue Fusion with the Caribbean/Mojo, and then the s'mores for dessert. They just about had to roll us out of there by time we were done. :scared1:

The only thing that really put a damper on the experience were a couple of different kids. One little boy was sitting on the other side of the restaurant, shouting and going nuts for a good 20 minutes. Then after they left and it got quiet again, a family with a fussy baby sat next to us. What bothered me about it was that the mom and dad were so busy eating, they weren't doing anything to comfort the poor thing. They'd try to shove food in his mouth, and he'd just whine and push the food away. I gathered he was teething, the way he kept pulling at his ear and fussing.

Other than that, it was all so awesome!

OMG I am so hooked on this place! My BIL and his fiancee were the first people I know of to try it and that convinced us. We usually go away somewhere for our anniversary, but because we are going to Disney this year, we didn't go away and went to the Melting Pot instead. It was AMAZING!! We were seated in the section where they only seat couples. Everything we had was awesome and although we were there for 3 hours, every minute was enjoyable.

DH loved the cheese fondue, but I enjoyed the chocolate the most. We made our own concotion - milk chocolate, peanut butter, and marshmallow..YUM!!! I can't wait to go back!! :)
