The Med Thread - All Sailings - Mediterranean

We are talking about trying to book the inaugural cruise from Port Canaveral, but I can't find out any info on it. Is anyone else going on this cruise? My husband and I are unfamiliar with repositioning cruises. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Speaking of renting tuxes, I believe that a FL company does the tuxes for cruises out of CC. Has anyone heard about how the tux rental will be handled out of Barcelona? I can't imagine a cruise that does not offer tux rental, but this will be a bit different.
ALL of the Tuxes are kept on the ship - so you will rent them from the same company as usual. and they will be delivered to your room at the beginning of the cruise and picked up at the end.

... The overnight train arrives in Barcelona at 8:30 am, so I'm not sure what we can do in Barcelona until the trip sets sail. After all, we will have all our luggage with us.
I've read that the train stations will keep your luggage for 3 euros per bag per day for you. So you arrive in Barcelona, leave your luggage at the train station, do some sight seeing, then back to the station to pick up the bags, and off to Port Veil for the cruise.

Thanks jrabbit ... That will come in very handy !! Now I have to decide whether we take the overnight train or not .. I have a room booked in Barcelona, but the train can offer a sleeper for about the same price, so it may be just as fun! We will be in Paris before hand, so I can have an extra day of touring by taking the night train!!

jrabbit: I haven't seen you on the disboards for a hundred years. May be our paths just haven't crossed in the recent past.

Which MED cruise are you taking? We will be on the 06/06/07.

Yea, long time no "see". We're on the last cruise 8/8/07. This part always sounds funny to me: We'll be touring Italy the week before the cruise and flying to Barcelona so that we can get on the ship and go back to Italy :lmao: :rotfl2: :teeth: We decided that 12 (or 16) hours in Rome wasn't going to cut it and that if we were in Italy and not see Venice that it would be wrong.

Glad you're on one of the early cruises so that you can work the kinks out for us;)

Where do I look online to book train from Paris to BCN and did anyone find a good fare from midwest to Paris? :surfweb:
Where to book. I don't know, but there may be something on the EuRail web site - I don't know if you can buy one way tickets there or not. But they probably have links to each nations railway systems.

Here's the link to RailEurope

:confused3 AAA travel agent is quoting sleeper train from Paris at $273 per person to Madrid, then $123 per person on to Barcelona. She says there is no direct Paris to Barcelona. What are others finding out?

Have you tried Elipsos They appear to have an overnight train that leaves Paris at 8:30 pm and arrives at Barcelona at 8:25 am. Price for leaving on a Friday (today) if tickets were bought in France would be 149 Euros each for 2 adults sharing a Club class sleeper compartment. It won't let you quote more than 60 days in advance and when you try to quote when purchasing tickets in States or Canada, it won't give you a quote. I don't know if you can reserve the tickets here and pick up and pay there or not. Someone told me you can leave your luggage at the train station for 3 Euros a bag, if you want to tour Barcelona before boarding the ship. This is what I'm thinking of doing, but am not sure yet. I hope this helps. Which cruise are you going on? If you are on the 7/7/7 cruise, drop by our cruise meet ... see link below!

Take care!

Soon be time to start planning in earnest.
Did you get letter from Disney with excursion timeline. Excursions should be on website in December. Planning should really begin then.

I haven't got mine yet, but my TA is on vacation (on a Disney cruise of all things) so I guess I have to wait until next week!

Andrew ... Do you know where I could download a map of London which would include the subway lines? I'm there for three days and have a half day free, so I want to map everything out. Thanks.

I was going nuts trying to find a reasonable place for a family of 5 to stay in London for 2 nights pre-cruise. Looking at hotels, motels, B & B's, apartments, everything!

I was leaning toward the Hilton Metropole since it was very close to the Paddington station which has a direct train to Heathrow (big selling point!), but the best price for a room for 5 was around $330/night. WOW!

I finally got my DW involved tonight and she did a little searching and found a Marriott a little ways out of the city for around $260/night. Better, but still WOW! She went ahead and made ressies since we could cancel with 48 hrs notice.

Of course, being a guy, I couldn't let HER get away with this! I've been researching hotels now for 2 weeks - no way am I going to let HER win! The gloves are off now! Time to break out the last resort - the great unknown - Priceline!

Yep. Priceline. Since you are not guaranteed a room size, I bid for two rooms and ended up at the Hilton Metropole for $80 per night. With taxes and fees it ended up being  $387.22  total for 2 rooms for 2 nights! I win! I win!

Anyway. I thought this might be helpful to others. I never really thought about using Priceline.

Now it's time to tackle trip insurance.
