the matching t shirt things

It's a "get the spirit, go with the flow" kind of thing. Sorry you don't see it.

Agreed! You either get it or you don't. We don't always do the matchy thing BUt sometimes on some WDW days. In DL recently I don't think we did though. However we are wearing really cool Mickey Halloeen tees to the MNSSHP that are being especially made.

DH would kill me if I suggested matching shirts. I am a big kid inside when it comes to Disney, but I am not the type of person to wear cutesy Disney clothing.

Different strokes for different folks. Some like matching shirts, some families don't. And that's what makes us all unique.

Yes, I'm sure that all the men forced to wear matching shirts with their two-year-old little girl and wife are SO happy! :lmao: They just don't want to say it to their wives..........but deep down..........:lmao:

You are probably right about this. BUT God bless the men who love their family enough or wife to just do it because its something SHE wanted and asked him to do. Thats what marriage and a partnership IS. My partner doesn't care to wear the Mickey ears BUT if I pull them out of the bag and ask him to put them on for a photo with Mickey or for something else he'll do it with a smile. If I ask him to wear a matching shirt for a day or two at WDW he'll do that to.

In our house, it is actually my DH who pushes for it. It was a thing his mom did for (or to?) him and his brothers when they were kids in the the 70's and went to Disney - they all dressed the same (down to the knee high socks!). His mom passed away 18 years ago, and matching at Disney is something that is sentimental to him. So, I guess my answer to the "why" would be nostalgia.

I'm happy to do it for him and so is DD. We have transitioned from absolutely matching to theme matching, though we do occasionally all have the same shirt. I don't care if people think we look like dorks or whatever else - I'll never see any of them again anyway. :upsidedow

I am practical and I would not spend money on something I would wear only twice on my trip and second time only if I plan to do laundry there. There is no way I would wear Disney clothes back home so matching shirts is not for me. However, I do not think it is embarrassing, it is cute and fun, of course if you wash shirt and do not just wear it for 7 days :scared1:.

couple years back, my son-in-law said next time we go to diz, we should have matching t-shirts :faint:

his suggestion.... my t-shirt shoud say "i'm Muffin" everyone els'swill say "I'm with Muffin"..... gotta know his humor:lmao:
guess I was the designated 'head honcho'

so far trying to design something,, a Mickey head with muffins for ears, something.

would love tye died, where do you find them? do not want to make them.

because making a blanket statement about all men is totally okay and hilarious...:rolleyes2

Oh, relax. And to answer your question-- yes, to me. :lmao:

It's just something moms to do even the score after so many years of late night feedings, dirty diapers, meals prepared, parent-teacher conferences, driving lessons and teenage attitude.

:thumbsup2:lmao: Now I know why women do it!!

All men? Probably not. The secure ones who want to share the enjoyment with the rest of their family- sure. My DH was the one who asked why our family hadn't done the matching Tshirt thing yet after seeing them years and years ago. And HE was the one who went to the hat store at MK and ordered up mickey ears for everyone at our daughter's wedding, complete with their names embroidered on them.

Bless your secure, t-shirt matching man :rotfl:

Yep. It is love pure and simple. And fear of their wives. :lmao: And the doghouse. And the couch. And the silent, but deadly "wife stare". :lmao:

I would never ever wear matching shirts.....outside of Disney.

For me it started with a friend's birthday, where we all wore "happy birthday shirts" at Disneyland Paris and had so much fun, a british family even sang for her :goodvibes.

And now, tie dying Mickey shirts with my daughter is part of building anticipation. We will be wearing matching shirts for my mother's birthday and MVMCP in November and are already planning how they will look like, it's so much fun for us and no bother to other visitors so I really don't care if other people get it or not.

And of course I know that my husband wears the shirts only for me, I do plenty of things for him, wearing a specific tshirt once a year to humour me and his daughter won't kill him.
My father isn't thrilled either but I consider it a small payback for all the boring vacations in the alps, with climbing stupid mountains every day, while all the other kids in my class enjoyed Italian beaches :rotfl:.

It isn't something I would ever think of doing - but it does look cute in pics and there are several benefits - mostly already mentioned - like easy identification, staying together etc

For me I know if there is a crowd in matching shirts, they are together and we will go round them and not end up trying to go through them thinking it is seperate groups

We will be in Disney in about 2 weeks and we are proud matching shirts geeks:) We used to do matching shirts everyday of our vacation, but with 3 teenagers we have cut the matching shirts down to 3 days. The kids actually enjoy it and encourage me to make them:love: Would never do it any where else but Disney!!!

Ridicule me all you want, doesn't bother me.

A better question would be: Why do people let these things bother them?

We do it for our first day at Disney only. We like the picture in front of the castle that way. We would never do it outside Disney. We also require any family that travels with us to do it too.

Love this!:thumbsup2

I also don't think it's a country or cultural thing. You don't see too many people outside of Disney wearing matching shirts or outfits here in the US either. Although there used to be this older couple in our little town who walked together every morning. They matched every element of their outfits whether it was shorts and shirts or windbreakers or coats. Even socks, footwear and umbrellas! They were both white haired and adorable!

My DH is always asking me what I'm wearing so he can match. I finally had to tell him I didn't WANT to match. He couldn't understand it. I usually get dressed after him so he doesn't check it out and match my colors. :rotfl: So when I made a few matching shirts for Disney a couple years ago, he was all for it! But then, it wouldn't occur to him that anyone would give a care about what he was wearing. And he couldn't care less if they did. I wish I could be more like that!:goodvibes

Hi Coco392,

I agree with the OP about the matching shirts being a great way to keep your group together. Last year DF and I made the tie-dye shirts to wear to MNSSHP and had a great time! We weren't sure about wearing them, but it did help us get into the spirit of the trip!... It also really helped build up the excitement that we would be doing our first girls only trip to WDW! This year there are 6 of us.....:faint: and we be at Disney just before Xmas! I think we will leave the Tshirt design in the hands of an expert this year, as my DS is a tech designer and is a wizard with an airbrush! :thumbsup2

Proud Mother to a Canadian Teacher in Brisbane Australia! :goodvibes

We've never done theme shirts, but we do all wear the same color plain tshirts. That way they just become part of our wardrobe when we get home. I asked my kids last week if they wanted to do the matching shirt thing again on this next trip and it was a unanimous "YES!" (Even from DH.) It really does help to keep track of everyone in a group.

i've always said people will wear crap at disney they wouldn't be caught DEAD in in the real world. :lmao:

I see nothing wrong with it...to each their own....

My family, DH included, looks forward to coordinating special outfits for Disney. Of course, we've never worried about whether or not we match or look dorky at home, let alone at Disney. We enjoy it. Dressing up and getting into whatever event we are at is part of the fun.

We are a family of 3. Me, DH and DS. On our 2nd trip, we decided to wear a matching trip-theme shirt one day of the trip. We have done it every trip since! We have fun thinking up the name of our trip......

Do we do this in the "real" world??? Nope. But, anything goes at Disney. I am even thinking of wearing a tiara next trip! :)

I hope my kids will still participate in the matching tshirts when they are teens. :)

We would never wear matching clothing at home but at Disney we love to. We do not always wear matching Disney clothes. We all have Texas A&M shirts and we wore those one day, we all had USA olympics shirts that we wore one day. Some days we just coordinate. I was much more into it when the kids were smaller. :)
