Disneyland Paris Trip Report
August 2010 - Cast - Me (Nick, 34) and DW (Ruth) 28.
Thursday 26th August Day One!
It was time! It was almost 2 years since our last visit to DLRP and in that time wed been married and had a once-in-a-lifetime Disneymoon in WDW. The day before we travelled wed been in Edinburgh taking in some of the festival and went to see comedian Sarah Millican who was really funny. We then stayed at my Mums for the night. So, after getting up at 4am and firing some coffee in us, it was off to Edinburgh airport. We have normally flown with Ryanair but since theyve changed the flight times it hasnt worked out as well.
Check in with Air France was quick and easy and everything was on time. As wed been out and about the day before, I didnt get to check in online so myself and DW werent sat together but for a 90 minute flight it was fine. In all, the process for getting through and getting our bags was fine but we were pushing it close to get our TGV time. I found it wasnt clear where to pick up our tickets or indeed, what train to go to but we managed and jumped on a train with minutes to spare checking with anyone and everyone that we were indeed going in the right direction. Incredibly just 10 minutes later we arrived at the resort! We were staying in Val DEurope so used tickets from a previous visit to hop on the RER the one stop to our hotel (Ibis). Despite being only 11am, we were welcomed to check in. Our room was fab and after a quick freshen up we were off back to the resort.
We went in and used the bag screening and jumped into the queue to buy our Dream APs. It was busy but everything moved quickly. We then went in via the front gates....it was good to be home! As soon as we walked into Town Square, Disneys All Stars Express was coming out. It was good to see it and hear the traditional Tous En Train music. We then took a walk up Main Street towards the Info Board and headed towards the Passport Office whilst saying hi to Mr & Mrs Incredible. We got to the Passport Office but the queue was quite long so we decided wed come back later. We headed around to Buzz and grabbed a fastpass whilst trying to explain to a couple what fastpass was and where the entrance to the ride was!
It was weird walking past Videopolis and not having The Legend of the Lion King on we loved that show. One of the things we were really looking forward to on this trip was going to see Captain EO so we headed towards it and walked straight in. It was just so nice not having the traditional 20 minute Kodak pre-show advert!! We really enjoyed the show (you could get motion sickness from the bouncing!). It never fails to amaze me how people cant understand the concept of moving all the way along a row.....but hey, I guess these people are more important than everyone else! We came out and went into Star Traders one of our favourites. We had a good look around and discovered something new to us.....Vinylmation oh dear....it was the start of something bad!
We took the short cut through to Fantasyland and were going to have our lunch at Bella Notte and then thought wed be better to grab our APs first so wed get discount when we did buy it. We went to the Passport Office and the queue was much less so got it done in super quick time having been AP holders before, it also meant all our details were in the system although DW did have to update her surname!! We walked back up to Fantasyland and some characters were out: Daisy, Sheriff of Nottingham, Tigger, Pluto. Got pic taken with Geppetto.
Into Bella Notte and both got the Pasta/Garlic Bread and drink combo (with AP discount!).
Once we were done, we went on into Fantasyland and saw Goofy out near to the Carousel. We then had a look around Sir Mickeys and got some pics before grabbing a spot at the back of the Castle for the Sleeping Beauty show. This is a cute show but sadly lacks one rather important part (Maleficent!).
We popped around to the Pin Cart at Au Chalet de la Marionette. We then popped over for a ride aboard one of our favourites Pirates of the Caribbean. At this time of the day it was busy but it moved quickly. We came off, had a look around the shop and headed across into Adventure Isle. We went through to Big Thunder but the ride itself was down and the fastpass machines were broken. We had a look in the Frontierland shop and then headed across via Central Plaza to use our fastpasses for Buzz. DW won fair and square (I was rusty!).
We looked in Constellations (looking in shops is one of our favourite hobbies as youll discover!). We headed over by Plaza Gardens and saw Remy and Emile out posing for pics. We had a quick pit stop and then used the free drink voucher we got earlier at Bella Notte to grab a drink and Mickey brioche from Victorias. Oh how we missed them! We had a look at the pin cart near the Info Board and then grabbed a spot to watch the New Generation show. Unfortunately they had to call it off as it had started to rain. Thankfully it wasnt to heavy and didnt last too long. We decided then to head over and get a fastpass for Big Thunder. We then took the walk down to go on Phantom Manor......it was fab!
Coming back through Frontierland we noticed the new (to us at least) Last Chance Saloon beside the Lucky Nugget and decided wed grab something here at some point during our visit. We then headed back into Central Plaza and got a spot for the New Generation show. This show was fabulous such a wonderful blend of characters, dancers and music and our love of this was demonstrated by how many times we went to watch it or just stopped when walking by to marvel at it.
Once it was done, we headed into the Castle and checked out the Christmas Shop. Not only did they have Christmas fun but they had Vinylmation including Ruths personal favourite, Cutesters! The rain came on again so we popped into Sir Mickeys for a bit. We then headed over towards Skull Rock and got some pics.
We went around into Adventureland and as well as looking in the shops enjoyed the wonder of the Aladdin walk-through.
It was time to use our fastpass for Big Thunder so we headed towards it and grabbed a fresh pair for use later. We went on and as we left the station the heavens opened OMG the whole ride was spent trying to get into the fetal position! Funny now we look back on it. Of course, as soon as we came off the rain stopped. We took a wander up to Woodys Roundup and got pics taken with Mickey, Minnie and Woody I love this location and the fact it has a character queue!
We decided it was time to check out the Last Chance Saloon - DW had Ribs, whilst I had Chicken Fingers. It was really good and we would eat there again. We then headed back up to Pirates and saw Jack out he was mobbed of course. We did Pirates and strolled into Fantasyland. There was a heavy downpour and lightning. They actually closed Dumbo, Tea Cups and the Carousel. Snow White was still running though so we took a quick spin. I do love this as its essentially the Wicked Queen ride. Also, why is it always so hot in there?! By the time we came out the Tea Cups were up and running again so we took a nice spin the dark I love how it looks at night.
We then plucked up the courage to take ride around the world with all of our favourite small world friends!
We then went down through Fantasyland past Bella Notte and by the side of the Castle. We caught the end of the New Gen show and got to see lots of characters.
We walked over to Big Thunder and used our fastpass. We then went back to Main Street and as there was a bit of time before Fantillusion, we looked through all the shops on the left hand side of Main Street (as youre walking towards the exit). Had a good look in Harringtons and grabbed some vanilla fudge as well. We grabbed a spot to watch Fantillusion and then moved closer up to Central Plaza to watch the Enchanted Fireworks which were fab.
We quickly left the park and jumped on a train and within 5 minutes of jumping on the train we were back in our hotel room. Our first day was a long one but we had so much fun!
