~The Man Report ~ ~ Bronze Heads & Gumby ~



Beer is gud.

When I’m on vacation, there is no “bad” time to have a libation. Here is Man-Rule #22.a - Beer & wine only before noon. Anything goes once the clock reads PM.

It’s now 10am and after the ordeal w/ MB in the Rockin’ Roller Coaster queue, I’m jonesin’ for a Gumby. Bud light will do nicely.

You guys know that little snack boat on the lake in the center of MGM? That’s where I steered us. I like to grab a Bud Light, get the kids a sack-o-chips, and sit by the lake for a little break. I think LtP just chews gum.

The nice thing about a pint of beer on an empty stomach is the effects are a lot more immediate. No waiting around or pouring down extra cups to reach my “happy point”. One does the job, and does it nicely.

Glowing adequately from beer, we wander south towards Indiana Jones at a slow meander. The goal now is to just take in the park, do a little people watching, and maybe catch the Muppet Show.

Life is gud.

Content and happy, we stroll the grounds. About half way through my beer, LG announces the need to use the restroom facilities. MB & I decide to wait for them near the bronze “heads” outside of Indy Jones.

What’s with these heads? They are like bronze statues of a few people’s heads. There’s one of Howard Cosell for Pete-Sake! I can understand the bust of Walt, but what gives about Howard? Why should he garner a precious spot amongst the famous Disney people? I don’t get it.

Drinking my beer, leaning on the bust of Walt, I contemplate the irony of the moment. Walt didn’t want alcohol in his parks. Then he croaked and Corporate took over. Better understanding the needs of men like myself, Corporate Disney proclaimed all new parks shall serve beer and wine and now they’re even setting up Full Service Bars with Liquor. Oh, how I love the new Disney.

Walt was a teetotaler, which is fine by me. Who am I to judge?

His brother, Roy, was a gun-toting alcoholic who wanted the Disney parks to have a booze kiosk on every corner. I still think Roy poisoned Walt’s Oat Meal one morning, but my investigation still lacks proof or even facts. This is why I’m in sales.

Lucky for me, the quality Disney parks cater to my “needs” as a vacationer, and allow me my one vice whenever I need it… which is often.

I’ve strayed… let me get back on track here.

From the “heads” we head rotfl over to the new section of MGM and wander around the area outside of Lights, Motor, Action (or whatever the heck it’s called) and check out all the buildings. This area is coming along nicely, but is in sore need of some attractions. It’s basically a football field sized area with nothing but streets and buildings.

Another hour drifts by and I’m getting hungry and thirsty. The beer is gone and the salami & cheese breakfast is wearing off.

It’s time for some Rosie’s!

For those not in the know, Rosie’s is the burger stand outside of RRC & ToT, behind the Turkey Stand.

Other than Pecos Bill’s at MK, this is the spot to get yourself a burger while in WDW. We Love It!!! Great Burgers, quick counter service…

… but no BEER!

I always have to make two trips… One to Rosie’s for food, the other to the Turkey Stand for a Gumby.

Once settled with food and drink, we locate a spot in the far corner, away from everyone. We always have lunch RIGHT at opening to avoid the crowds. We like to camp out here, chat about the day, look at park maps, and relax in the shade of our umbrella.

LtP and I enjoy double cheese burgers, sans the bun, while MB eats chicken strips and LG has Mac-n-Cheese. MB is extra hungry this morning and downs all our fries also.

Mmmmmmm….. Gud!

Our standard pattern for park visits is to have lunch, then head back to the hotel for swimming. Epcot is the only park we generally stay at after lunch and that’s only due to the Food & Wine Festival.

So what I’m saying is that we show up at the parks around 9am and leave before noon. Now you know why we go for almost two weeks!

I know… hardly seems worth it. This is how we vacation. Get over it.

We drive my sister crazy who is totally hard core commando and tours parks from morning until close. She just HAS to get her money’s worth.

Me? I’d just assume have a beer by the pool as have a beer at Rosie’s. It’s all the same to me. As long as I’m on WDW, it’s all gud.

One more day at our off-site resort and we can move! We can hardly wait!... For us, that’s when the ACTUAL vacation begins. All of this so far is just our warm up.

And Buzz, when the hour at MGM "drifted" by, didn't we go to the Shrunken park and Muppets? Or am I jumping the gun here? It's been so long, I can't remember.
