Before I used Buttered Tan - I used one of the Olive's. Let me go look which one.

I *think* it was the Golden Medium. I know I got one of them once, and it was much too green.

I also tried BUff - Beige Neutral. But the best one for me, thus far - has been the Buttered Tan. I think the Golden Medium was okay, though.

If you wanna send me a PM - Ill give you my email and Ill suggest colors for you. Ive done that before for a couple people.

You can always order another sample kit. Thats what I would do, if I were you. :goodvibes

Cool thank you I think I jsut might do that :goodvibes thanks I appreciate the help I will pm you maybe a little later ok.

And I know its not makeup but I also bought some of the Smooth away pads that you use to buff the hair off of your legs. I freaking LOVE them!!

CHerries in the Snow is such a pretty red! :lovestruc

Do those pads work??? For real??? I need to get me some!! :3dglasses

CR do they let you use the 20 percent on things like Lash Injection? I thought it was just the drug store brands. I hate my ULTA. Once I was there and about to purchase 140 worth of product. I did not have my coupon and asked if I could have the coupon from the circular on the counter. The idiot manager said no. So he let me walk out on a 140 order just to save himself a crummy 3.50. I am trying not making a genralization but what the heck is a guy who is straight managing a make up store for anyway??? What the heck does he even know about make up? He wears an Ulta shirt that is a mess and not in a stylized way. So I now boycott ULTA BUT maybe I can swollow my pride just this once for the Lash Injection. I swore I would never return.

What a jack!!!! I would have done the same thing. Wiener.

It used to be no 'high end' stuff, but they changed it. You can get the good brands now, too.

Who needs 20% a $5 lipstick, y'know?? :confused3 Big whoop!

But if you go - don't you forget your coupon! Mr Wonderful certainly wont let you use his.

Me too and in keeping with my boycott of Ulta I do not even read them.....well I lie I do read them but then I justify why I do not want any of their make up because I like Sephora better.

Oh by the way I live in MA and they are opening a new Nordstroms here in April. I work with someone whose daughter went to one of the Ma Nordstroms openings this year and she got a ton of make up. She had a dozen different companies make her up and I guess on the store opening they GIVE you what they use. She just went to the LRM and washed her face inbetween. I am definately going when the one near me opens, I will call in sick b/c as Catherine Rose can tell you nothing makes me happier than free make up(of high quality):rotfl:

NEAT!!!! Your g/f is a smart cookie!! Be sure to post what you get - FUN!!!!!

YES!!! I love them! I used to use them in college back before they were smooth away. I used to buy them at Wal-Mart for cheap, then all of the sudden they disappeared. Their patent must have run out or something. I loved them. So when I saw Smooth Away I was like I MUST have them!!! When I saw them at Target today I swooped them up!!!

I got some Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation yesterday and tried it this morning (had a coupon). Oh my gosh! It has worked perfectly all day! I have not touched up powder even ONCE all day, no shine, just a smooth natural looking face. It is so silky and the shade even matched. So, hooray! I think the Clinique Perfectly Real makeup was just too creamy and thick, even though it's oil free.

I agree with you about ULTA. Sephora is my store of choice, but I'll run to Ulta for salon shampoo and when I need an OPI.

It's still good for some stuff (I found a FAKE BAKE set after Christmas, normally around $50 for FOUR DOLLARS!! When she rang it up I about fainted!)

ALways check ULTA's clearance aisle. They almost always have something worth getting..

I agree. Sephora is more high end. But (for me anyway) Ulta is closer. And they have the biggest selection of OPI nail color of anywhere I have ever seen. And you all know by now what started me on this make-up kick. I can buy a bottle of OPI and a bottle of polish remover for $7.30 when I use the $3.50 coupon they are always circulating. They have a great selection of salon hair products that I don't see at my sephora either.

Yeah, tell us more about the 20% off coupons! So many of their coupons are so limited. But the 20% ones can be sometimes be really good. I hope it's in the Sunday paper. Maybe they'll email them out (you guys are all on Ulta's email list right?) They had a friends and family a few weeks ago that made me sick  20% off just about everything! I couldn't buy a thing. I don't buy on credit, but man I tell you I was tempted to pull a card out that time.

And Bella I hope you dropped all those products right in front of him! On the counter of course (no need to take it out on the make-up  ). That is unreal.

Well, I have disturbing information.

It wont really matter unless youre on the west coast though, since ULTA is closed everywhere else.

The flier I got is for *next week* (i.e. tomorrow! )

So - no Lash Injection sets and cant use the coupon ..... until tomorrow.

So, I left it all there, and will return in the morning. :lmao:

I am also going to purchase the most amazing - stunning - gorgeous - lip gloss by Bourjois. I really like their glosses!!! It kills me to buy their stuff (and pay so much for it) when theyre owned by Loreal. I walked over to Loreal's area, to see if there was a matching gloss (usually you can find a match) There was one - but it had shimmer in it, and this one is not. Theyre not too much though - and it's SO pretty on - Im getting it.

Cat, is it sticky? I usually steer clear from glosses cause I don't like the stickyness.

Cat, is it sticky? I usually steer clear from glosses cause I don't like the stickyness.

No! That's what I think I love about it. It's just fabulous.

They sell mini's - theyre only $9 (theyre supposed to be like cell phone charms) If you wanted to try it out.... but the full size is I think 15? 15 or 18 - so you may as well just go for it.

No - theyre not sticky. I love the selection of colors of MAC's lipglasses - however, I feel like I layered honey on my lips when I wear them. So, I avoid them.

What colors do you like.... maybe you'll get a prize in the mail. :rolleyes1

heehee. I like pinks and neutrals.

OK yeah see I definitely try to avoid that honey feel.

I've never used any bronzers. I am afraid of them. I actually own some that I have never opened for fear that I will make myself look like a big tangerine or something.

I usually dont like bronzers - but I was out after work, and noticed the cocktail waitresses cheeks were just *glowey* and I go "what blush do you have on??"
And she goes - lemme go get it.

And it was Too Faced's : Snow Bunny:

P110409_hero-thumb-200x200.jpg

And I ran out and got it the next day. I was totally impressed. It wasnt a dirty, muddy brown. It was a glowey fresh color. So pretty.

Then I ended up with Pink Leopard too - which has more pink.

Try them on your hand - you'll see what I mean. If they didnt market them as bronzers, you'd probably already own one. ;) Theyre very pretty.

OH AND ANGEL: Do you like shimmers, sparkles or just shiney lipglosses?

I like all of the above. LOL!

Hmmmm I really like that two faced that you posted. I wear blush. I use All Smiles by Everyday Minerals and then I put a blush over it that has a shine to it....I don't know who makes it. It has like 5 colors in a row in it and kinda reminds me of that one you just posted. I like it over the all smiles because it kind of tones it down and also gives my cheeks a glow without making them look like greasy shiny. I need to look and see who makes it cause I am gonna need some more soon.

I have to go to the mall this week to have some jewelry looked at in order to keep the warranty valid so I am definitely planning on stopping in at Sephora.

I forgot to mention "Never Let Them See You Shine" by Philosophy. I use it as a primer with or without make-up, I have combo skin & love this product. I use BM over it...Really cuts down on touch ups & is perfect in the heat.

Now a question...I have used Buxom lips glosses since they came out & love them. I purchased 2 Buxom Lips full coverage & they made my lips a mess!!! So drying & left them sensitive, has anyone else had a problem with Buxom full coverage?

Just placed a big Sephora order as a little pick me up....I need it:thumbsup2

Last thing....I go to a fairly well know salon in NYC & have paid major $$$$ for products. Some of the girls there were chatting one day & I guess I wasn't supposed to hear. Do you know what they all wash & condition their hair with? FINESSE!!!!!!! I haven't bought expensive shampoo & conditioner since then.....just a tip I'm sure some of you already know it.

I would imagine Buxom is like a lot of plumpers, and whatever is plumping is also drying out your lips. I find that with Lip Venom if I use it too much.

What'd you get from Sephora???

ANd your NYC stylist girls are crazy. I went to Beauty School - and it would be a cold day in *blank* that I use drug store stuff on my hair. Won't happen. That is the ONE thing Im a super snob about .... big time.

There really really is a difference. I swear.

I've just zipped through a couple of posts on this thread, but seeing the bronzer discussion come up I just had to jump in and add my two cents.

If you're searching for a light, natural looking bronzer I would very highly recommend CARGO Beach Blush. I have it in Miami Beach and Sunset Beach and love them both. You don't feel them on your face at all and the shades are so flattering - not orangey at all.

By the way, great thread idea, OP! I'm a total Sephora addict and it's nice to know that there are others out there who are like me! :)

LADIES, I NEED YOU!!

I am 38 years old with REALLY GOOD skin. Partially because I don't go in the sun a great deal. Anyway, I have NEVER worn make up consistently. So I have no idea what to use, how to wear it, or any of that. I now have 2 girls, 6 and 2, and they are GIRLS!! I have to hurry and learn so that they don't suffer my same fate!

My Mother NEVER wore makeup, except to weddings and funerals, and so she never taught me.

To make this worse, I can get most of the good stuff AMAZINGLY CHEAP! I buy from a lady who has the buyback contract on lots of brands I've never heard of, and then I sell on ebay. Could ya'll tell me where to start, maybe coach me through this?:flower3: :flower3:

PUHLEEEEZ!!!

Here is a small list of name brands I get pretty much monthly. Remember, I know what blush is and that is goes on your face, but some of these brands I've never even heard of. Oh, by the way, I have VERY fair skin and blonde hair, blue eyes.

SMASHBOX, PHILOSOPHY, PROACTIV, BARE ESCENTUALS/MINERALS, MALLY, MODEL CO(once in a while), ORIGINS, PETER THOMAS ROTH, CLINIQUE, ODON, DR DENESE, PRESCRIPTIVES, LAURA GELLER, BOURJOIS (once in a while).

I could probably request whatever, so could ya'll help please? I am guessing I need to start with some sort of cleansing/moisturizing?

I really am clueless!

First of all, I am so jealous! Of all those brands my personal favorite is SMASHBOX so what I would do is go to the makeup counter at Macy's or Nordstrom or whatever department store has Smashbox and get a make up lesson. You'll sit in their chair and they will do your face in all their products. I haven't done this in a long time, but I think it's either free or $50 (but what you do is buy 50 dollars in makeup and then the makeover free). Someone can correct me if I'm wrong about that. I know you said you get everything cheap but maybe look for something that you can't get from your friend.

I have two daughters 9 and 12 and I told them they can wear make-up when they are 13. I told dd12 when the she's 13, I'll take her to the store for a make up lesson. She is counting down the days till then.

Now, I don't know if I want to know this but can you get the smashbox "softlights" in shimmer??? That stuff is candlelit radiance in a box. :lovestruc How much do you pay for it? I just got it at Ulta for (gulp) $28! My personal $$ limit for each product is $30. So that's steep for me.

OH, here is another idea! I learned some tips from youtube. There are people who give make-up lessons there on a regular basis. For example, I wanted to learn about "tightlining" (a different technique for lining the eye that I've been wanting to try). So I went to youtube and put "tightlining" in the search box and got this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ26TZWbutM

I sure others have more advice too. Hope this helps.

:goodvibes Good morning ladies! And :thanks: for the happy birthday wishes! Playing catch-up again.

It was so CROWDED yesterday over there! All we got on was Space Mountain because the girl at Guest Services gave me a FastPass good for any attraction--but even the FP lines at Thunder and Buzz were outside the building! :confused3 I don't usually go to the MK on Saturdays for that reason, too many people, but I met a friend of mine after he got off work and we walked around for a bit which was fun! ANYWAY, what does this have to do with makeup? I'm glad you asked!

During the work day I wear this stuff (this was for my 2-foundation question) called Some Kind'a Gorgeous by Benefit. I wanted something that was very light and sheer (I generally have pretty good skin, so my everyday coverage doesn't have to be too heavy). Normally I don't wear foundation of any kind to the parks because it bugs me when it's humid and sweaty (I have ones that won't run or budge, but something about walking around all day in my stage-strength makeup bugs the heck out of me) but yesterday I wore the Benefit and it WORKED! It was still on at the end of the day and I didn't feel like I had paste on my face. So a :thumbsup2 for that. It only comes in 2 shades but it supposedly works on just about anyone.

And the Lash Injection layering with the Pinpoint looks awesome, for those of you running off to ULTA. I'm glad I could enable you. ;)

I'm not wild about ULTA either; but it is 5 minutes from my house. I usually go there to get hair product and polish and my H2O+ Spa lotions (yes, the same kind they sell at Disney, in case you're an addict like me). Sephora is about 20 min. away at another mall...which ALSO has a MAC store...and a Nordstrom. That is Tampa Makeup Mecca, right there :cloud9: Of course now that they've opened the MAC counter at the mall down the street, oh, keep me away!!!!!

Cathryn, is the Snow Bunny shimmery at all? I'm not crazy about shiny bronzers or blushes. I like glow, but not shine. I might like this, I think.

On blushes, everyone here is talking about NARS! Why do you love NARS?

I have been using BeneFit Dallas blush, which is kind of like a deep blush/bronzer combo shade (makes you look like you've been out in the sun), and also their throbbbb which is very pinky. I bought Bahama Mama by the Balm to do that body makeup work, which is VERY brown and VERY matte and I can use in an all-over fashion with a kabuki brush but is too dark for just cheeks for me unless I blend like mad, my skin is so light it makes me look like I've rolled in the dirt. On my friend I did the body makeup for, HE could wear it on his cheeks (and elsewhere, of course:rolleyes1) and he looked like a sun-bronzed god. :rotfl: UNFAIR.

OMG jealous! That's great!
The only ones out of those brands I've really used are Smashbox (my favorite of these), Clinique and Bourjois.

Your skin tone sounds about the same as mine. One thing I learned is to NOT let the makeup folks talk you into a shade that's too light for you. I have gotten stuck with so much ghostly makeup--I think they see us Nordic/Irish blondes coming sometimes and pull out the closest thing they have to white. If whatever color they put on my face doesn't at least match somewhat with my forearms too (which is usually the most tan part of my body, and that's not saying much) then it's too light and I ALWAYS end up hating the shade and returning it. MAC is about the only place I've been that they've hit my shades spot-on, they have fantastic artists.

I echo the PP, go to a counter and have them make you over so you can try lots of shades and such out before you get them from your friend. Just buy something so the artist can eat :goodvibes

I don't use any cleanser/moisturizer from department stores (too expensive for me, I am a Neutrogena/Olay/ROC fan, but thinking about that Revitalume someone posted!) but my mother used Clinique for many years and loved it. I have also heard some good things about Origins.

Cathryn, is the Snow Bunny shimmery at all? I'm not crazy about shiny bronzers or blushes. I like glow, but not shine. I might like this, I think.

I got the Too Faced Snow Bunny a few months ago and I tried really hard to love it but I couldn't get it to work for me. Everyone is different, one person's "can't live without" is another person's "wouldn't be caught dead in it".

I tried TF Snow Bunny as a blush, a luminizer, a bronzer, and finally in a desperate attempt to use it up, an eyeshadow. First, I felt like my face aged ten years everytime I put it on. It went over my skin and skipped over the wrinkles...so of course that was the first thing I saw after it was on. I think Snow Bunny is for someone younger (I'm 42). Second, it seemed really orange on my skin (medium skin tone, brown eyes, blond hair). Third, it never stayed where it was supposed to. It made it's way all over my face.

Since I've got the pan, I may give it one last chance when summer comes. But for glow, I love the smashbox softlights in shimmer. The powder is milled VERY fine. And it gives a "glow" more than a "shine". I like it much more. But it's not a bronzer.
