With the exception perhaps of Space Mountain (and for some Big Thunder Mountain Railroad), the Magic Kingdom isn't exactly known for thrilling amusement park types of rides. Yet in spite of it's family friendly theme, there is one little ride that can actually hold it's own with many amusement park thrillers - the Mad Tea Party.

Unlike most Disney rides that are pretty much stuck in the "let's-keep-this-as-a-family-ride-only" kind of mode, the Mad Tea Party has the option of transforming itself into a wild, hurl inducing ride if one so desires.
I have seen many a family member turn green as another family member pushes the small tea cups to their limits of rotational velocity.

One of my earliest childhood memories of Disney is encouraging my dad to spin those cups as fast as he could, even though he and my mom were beginning to take on a nice greenish complexion. Afterwards both my parents and my brother felt sick, whereas I absolutely loved the sensation (and thus began a life-long obsession with high-speed rotational rides).
You wouldn't really think that such a small ride located near the middle of the most kid friendly part of the park could be guilty of such maleficence, but sure enough it is.

For me the Mad Tea Cups is a classic that I hope is lovingly recreated (or simply just moved) with all of it's crazy, spinning madness when the Fantasy land expansion takes place.
True, it's not really on my "must-do" list, and in fact our last trip we didn't ride it, but it's the kind of ride that makes you feel better just knowing it's there, waiting to challenge the insides of unexpecting guests.

What are some of your best memories of this classic? Have you (or someone in your family) had the pleasure of getting sick on this ride?

LOVE Mad Tea Party! I like to spin it as fast as possible, though I can't withstand that pace for the entire ride. I also got some adorable pictures of me and DBF laughing hysterically while spinning. They're my favorite pictures from that trip :)

LOVE THE TEA CUPS!!!! My husband turns green just looking at them. I was disappointed that they were rehabing it when we were there in October, but the kids can't wait until the next time we go. SPIN FASTER!!!!

The tea ups ARE a must do for us!! We are definitely the sorts to spin as fast as we can! I never have felt sick from it, but I've made others a bit woozy! I love that ride and you can get the best home videos from it too. :thumbsup2

My girls LOVE the teacups. I like them, but ony in small doses.

My signature picture is from MNSSHP - the girls rode *7 times in a row.*

Here's another pic from that trip. The girls were 5 and 7.

And here they are at 9 and 11, still having a ball spinning around. :)

"laughing hysterically while spinning" I think is a great way to sum up this ride, which is why I like it so much. :thumbsup2

Oh, yeah. When I went on my college trip with some of my peeps (did they have peeps in 1976), we spun that little cup until ALL of us were green! It took me quite a while to get my legs back under me again after that one.
I was soooooooooo sick to my stomach, never went on it again!!

i have never laughed so hard as i did on the mad tea party. i don't know what it was, but i just burst into hysterical laughter the second it started up. i was laughing so hard i was crying haha.

We LOVE the Teacups! Wouldn't miss it.

If you look closely at the background, in the opening between the teacups, you'll see Alice and the White Rabbit meeting guests.....

I turn green just looking at them. Guess I need to let my kids ride them. I just pass them up.

I cannot go to MK without riding 2 things - Haunted Mansion & the Teacups. My daughter loves HM, but does the teacups just to keep me quiet.

I LOVE the teacups. :thumbsup2

We love the Teacups---mostly. DD # 2 (8), gets motion sickness, so she sits this one out. One parent rides with DD # 1, while parent 2 goes with DD #1 to do something, then we swap out.

One of my girls favorite memories from our first trip is making daddy turn green on the teacups!! Now it has become a tradition for all of our trips! They were very sad it was closed in October, and I can't wait to get them on it again in August!! (DH may disagree, but he's a good sport and will do it at least once!!) Everytime we go to Busch Gardens they ride the teacups with daddy, but it's just not the same as riding them in the MK!!!

We love the teacups and spin ours as fast as possible. I really like the Disneyland teacups at night. We put our heads back and look at the laterns against the night sky while spinning - a classic Disney moment. :thumbsup2

Me too. DH and DD ride them and spin themselves silly. We visited Disneyland Paris in April of this year. They were quite disapointed to learn that they have something on the tea cups there to keep them from spinning so fast. :confused3 I really hope that they don't do something like that at WDW with the expansion.

I'm no longer allowed to spin them because of my previous 2 traveling partners. It's no spin or no go.

However, on a 2001 trip myself and my 2 siblings were in one cup and my parents in another. They did not spin a bit but my dear brother who was 18 at the time and quite strong, turned that wheel for all he could and we were loving it. We were the last cup to stop spinning and the whole ride had completely stopped with our little cup still going for a few more seconds.
