We recently moved (okay not so recent any more but about 2 years ago) to a new area. We love it. The library is the one thing I have found very lacking. :( Sniff sniff. I LOVE libraries...one of my favorite places to spend a day. However, our library has way more videos than books. Okay, maybe not total (in all honesty) but way more new videos then new books.

I understand about budget constraints. Time it takes to aquire things...all of the general headaches to making "everyone" happy...my only problem is that they buy tons of videos (think blockbuster type videos not educational videos) and the book shelves remain sparse. :(

What can I do without insulting the people who work there (and I know they are working hard) to maybe suggest something new. **I have tried dropping suggestion card after suggestion card into the little box they have set out**

Our children's programs are about 60% video screenings with the other 20% of activities having nothing to do with books and that leaves about 20% of the stuff to do with books...gasp...at a library.

Let me add that we live in an area with a large literacy problem (we are located at the start of the Apilachian (I know I slaughtered spelling that) foothills. But how is that ever going to change when even the library focus is on videos instead of books??!!

Any ideas would be very appreciated!! :listen:

I'll PM you tomorrow when I have more time! I think I can come up with a few ideas. :)

I wish libraries were magical places everywhere (I even have a castle in my storytime room), but as you clearly know from your post, every state has different funding priorities.

Does the library at least offer a bunch of storytimes for the pre-k set?

I know around here we have a VERY hard time attracting school-age kids, hence why I do video game and card game (yu-gi-oh) programs. But even those programs get connected to books.

My new director got us a movie lisence (so we could do staffing-friendly movie programs all the time), but the staff totally rebeled and the public didn't show up. Now we spend that money on more important things.

Anyway, I'll PM you more tomorrow!

Hi Denise! :wave2:
I'm leaving in like 2 minutes, but I just want some of your steak/grilled items before I go! Thursday night dinners are always a struggle for me and The Horned King.

Bye Ladies!

Sarah- Here ya go! LOL

Have a great night!

Bonnie- It's working great! :) Thanks for asking.

Dr. Phil's on- I'll be back later. :wave2:

Good afternoon all!
My boss "kidnapped" me to go to Navy Pier and view the Tall Ships as they come in! It was amazing. Tall ships have muge multi-masts and are jjust so graceful and fast and big! Really cool site to see and it killed an hour off my day! My boss can kidnap me anytime!
So how are you this afternoon?
Cy is off to learn management the Disney Way. Oh how I envy him right now. Have a fab trip Cy!
And Denise is off to the beach! Beaches are really cool. I hope you have a great time!

Hi Minty!

I saw your post about singing in the choir. I sing alto, unless there is a 3-part harmony; then I sing second soprano.

cool! I sing second soprano in 3 part and soprano in 2 parts! Small world!!! I love choirs. I've been singing in them for as long as I can remember. When I was in a children's choir we actually performed at WDW for a whole week! It was so cool. We stayed at ASMu.

Children's choir? Wow, that long huh? I sang in choir in jr. high and high school (we performed at Magic Mountain twice) and then in church choir off and on for the past 9 years. I like to sing! But I don't have a good enough voice to be a soloist.

Not good enough? I don't believe that. You may lack the confidence. I do most of the time, which is weird because when I was little I used to love to do solos. Now that I'm older I find I don't have the nerve

You'll have to sing for us at the meet! You have over a year to practice!!

uuhh. We'll see I guess. Maybe we can do karaoke at Kimonos and everyone can take turns!

Gotta go make dinner. I'll be back on later. Bye Minty!

Kimonos is at the Swan in WDW. Sushi bar.
Ok BonBon talk to you later!

Hello everyone!!!

Long time no talk huh?!?!?!?
