THE LIBERAL THREAD #3- No Debate Please

At the risk of throwing this thread into turmoil again,

Keep in mind...If Barack can hold onto the states that went for Kerry in '04, then he would only have to add one state from that last list to win the presidency.

So...that's how I see it happening. He'll pick up North Carolina, Missouri, and at least one or two others, and we'll have the first election in years that doesn't come down to one state one way or the other.

I was spotting him all the Kerry states.

I don't see NC turning blue - do you remember republicans get to vote in the general - right? ;) (just being snarky).

But I forgot about MO being close last time......

I wonder if the VP choice of McCain will change any dynamics.......

As for NJ - I hope it stays blue...... there was a poll to suggest that McCain would do well here ....... and we have an unpopular democratic governor right now......

I can't see NJ going Red for POTUS. I live in the RED section, but even here I'm seeing a lot of Hillary and Obama signs.

Neither can I, but I also can't see Texas, Georgia, Indiana or North Carolina going blue.

I think it all depends on how the far right responds. If they are willing to vote McCain to keep a Republican in the WH, then I would agree. However, if they are ticked at the party for nominating what many of them view as a RINO and stay home, those states could be tight.

Well, I think we can at least count on Utah. :)

Just a friendly (I hope) interjection...

NC voting for Obama in the general election is sheer fantasy.

I'll defer to a resident, but again, I think the far right is not a given. Of course, we have our own problems with supporters of Hillary and Obama saying that they won't vote for the other one if their person loses. :headache:

In the most recent Survey USA polls:

McCain leads Obama by 13 in Georgia.
McCain leads Obama by 1 in Texas.
McCain leads Obama by 2 in North Carolina.
McCain leads Obama by 2 in Florida (Where Obama hasn't even campaigned).
McCain leads Obama by 9 in Indiana.
McCain leads Obama by 3 in South Carolina.
Obama leads McCain by 9 in Colorado.
Obama leads McCain by 7 in New Mexico.
Obama leads McCain by 1 in Michigan.
Obama leads McCain by 10 in Ohio.
Obama leads McCain by 4 in NORTH DAKOTA.
Obama leads McCain by 11 in Wisconsin.
Obama leads McCain by 9 in Iowa.

Also, there are virtual ties in Virginia and New Jersey.

So yeah...I'm still feeling pretty confident. ;)

I don't know if you noticed, but some of the more vocal people who said they would sit out the election have changed their minds recently .

I hadn't so thanks for the great news!!! :yay:

I haven't gotten there yet, Robin. ;) But yeah...I'm workin' on it. The more I see of McCain, the more I realize I might need to vote against him.

I have faith in you  and Obama is probably going to win the nomination anyway.

You know, Bush must have huge problems with the Pope. I mean, when the Pope says, "Peace be with you", Bush must have a fit :headache:

It won't be enthusiasm for Obama that will make some unlikely states close, it will be the number of Conservative Republicans who decide to sit this one out that will make the difference. Red states will not turn blue because of any love fest for Obama. If they turn blue, they will turn blue by forfeit, imho.

The offer to sew your nostrils shut still stands if it should come to that.

Picture the scene: The band is playing "Hail To The Chief", Hillary walks by and the rightwing passes a gold brick. If that isn't a good enough incentive to vote for Hillary if she's the nominee, I don't know what is. :goodvibes

While possible, the numbers in polling don't show that to be the case. Look up Hillary's numbers in places like Nebraska, Alaska, New Mexico and elsewhere.

But the point is that there are a number of places McCain is going to have to fight to hold onto, and according to all available evidence, both objective (the polling numbers) and subjective (I have a ton of friends that live in the state...as does virtually every other West Virginian) North Carolina is going to be one of those places.

:lmao: Good point. :thumbsup2

Like I said...I'm considering it. If I could just stay off of HuffPost, Politico, and the cable news channels and not have to hear her keep bringing up all this trivial crap, it'd be a lot easier. ;)

Funny - I'm trying to stay away from those sites (at least HuffPo and dailykos) because of all the trivial crap they bring up about Hillary........ ;) The woman can't catch a break.

I often wonder - if we replaced Kerry and Edwards for Obama and Clinton - would the blogs be so against the #2 (Edwards in that race) that they are with Hillary....

Could it be a woman thing? I think there's some merit to that.........

Could just be that people don't think she's a good person and she keeps giving them reasons to think that.

Did you hear the 8 questions Keith Olbermann suggested Stephanopoulos ask John McCain on Sunday? Because Stephanopoulos had defended the stupid stuff he asked the first 45 minutes of the last Democratic debate with - The right will bring this issues up during the general election.

Wow! Most of Keith's list were funny but there were a couple of really wicked ones. Why did you commit adultery? No, not with the lobbyist but with your current wife while you were married to your first wife. :scared1:

I wonder what all those Bill Clinton haters on the right (he's such an immoral man) will have to say about that?
