The things I learned on my vacation...better titled as The Trip to Hades and why next year we will only go for a week and fly.

First a brief note for those of you that do not know me on the CB. My name is Angela and I am insane. Yes, you heard right. I have always thought I was a resonably well adjusted person, but apparently I was simply the last person to know my true mental status. Sad, isn't it? Why do I now know I am insane? Well after this trip, there was just no way to continue living in denial.

A little background:

I have a DH and two girls, Remy (7) and Holly (20mos). We live on Fort Drum in Ny (30 miles south of Canadia). My DH is in the military here and we only get to see our family in Florida once a year in the summer when Remy is out of school and we stay for a few weeks. My DH (lucky jerk) has not been home for the past two years as he was in Iraq both times. I have taken the girls by myself and was looking forward to DH coming this year (what was I thinking?!).

Now for the trip...

Today's Lesson: It is hard to hide with vampires about.

When we last saw our heroine she was in danger of overdosing on asprin, trapped in a car with two midgets and the evil wannabe Slim Shady they call...daddy (I was tempted to say a naughty word).

We've arrived! Woo Hoo, no more listening to the girls fighting in the backseat, no more cramped legs, no more Eminem on the cd player (DH must be killed for that), no more fast food, NO MORE being forced to be in close quarters with my family! Ok, I know that sounds bad, but you try driving for 2 days, over 1600 miles in a car with THOSE PEOPLE! I am now aware of the secret plot they all have to drive me insane! What was I thinking...RULES, ha, I should have known we'd have rampant anarchy!

Anyways... after getting less than 5 hrs sleep (DH was all for being on the road early today) we drove into my mom's yard at 2pm. My mom and stepdad, Bob were MIA along with their new cabin cruiser. OH DEAR GOD, I can NOT be stuck alone with THESE PEOPLE any longer!!! {pardon me while I re-live the panic attack} Thankfully my aunt Iva lives across the street and THEY were home (they are now the favorites). My cousin David was there too. {Brief recess while we get the 'welcome home' hugs and kisses out of the way} We all went inside to get out of the heat (when we left NY it was in the 40s; here in FL it was in the 90s). My aunt told us that for some odd unknown reason my mom thought we wouldn't get there until midnight so they went to the lake. She apparently doesn't realize how many speed laws we are willing to break to get the car ride from Hades over.

Well, we all hung out catching up and it only took a few minutes for my cousins to start showing up. News travels fast and I am much loved...stop snickering I AM! It also helps that several of them were next door playing Xbox (I have a whole section I am going to dedicate to the Xbox later on entitled 'Who's your daddy: How the XBox gave Jaison a black eye'). In case ya'll are thinking to yourselves, "Geez, how many cousins does she have?", I have 23 cousins total and 8 of us (6 boys and 2 girls) grew up in the same neighborhood next door to each other in rural FL. So far four had shown up; David 22, Jaison 26, Josh 15, and Easy 28. Now, I have a question for ya'll? Say you have a cousin that you haven't seen for a year that you grew up with and ya'll are VERY close. What would be your first reaction to seeing them again? I bet ya'll wouldn't grab them by the ankle and hold them upside down like SOME people. I had barely gotten to my feet to hug my cousin Jaison when he did just that. While Remy thought it was funny, Holly started crying and screaming (unlike me, Holly is growing up in a NORMAL family). Now just so you know, there were nine people there by this time and I was feeling a little outnumbered by LOUD boys and was ready to bolt (I can only take so many dirty jokes and "stories" about girls who worship them). Thankfully that's when the girls started to arrive and ya'll get to be introduced to my new cousin Ashley 20 (she married David last Valentines Day and they have a 7mo old). She's a real sweetheart, but I think she's missing a tenant "upstairs". You'll see what I mean later when I tell ya'll about us playing hide n seek. My cousins Sara 21 and Sam (Samantha) 13 were with her. Sara and Ash had went to buy alcohol. Yes, I know...Ash is underage, but I'm not her mama. I got to hang out for a few more hours before my mom showed up and I had to go see her (it was starting to get dark by this time).

I was sitting on the front porch at my mom's house talking to her when several of my cousins came over. It took them ten seconds to convince my mom and I to play hide n seek with them LOL. Oh lord, talk about dying of laughter. This is the way we play hide n seek. One person (usually whoever we can all beat up) has to be it first, you count to 20 (SLOW), you get a very dim flashlight (I swear it was the same flashlight from when we played in the 80s as kids), the porch is base, the perimeters are three acres wide (covering four yards) and good luck trying to find us. Oh, the one rule is no hidding in sheds, barns, houses, cars or boats. Playing was Mom, me, Ash, Sam, Josh, Remy, David, Jaison, Easy (this is what we call my cousin Louisiana). In case ya'll were wondering where DH and Holly were, they had went to bed (it was only around 9pm!).

Well Josh had to be it first and we all took off to hide. My mom was so funny (yea, she'd had a few) and just laid down in the middle of the driveway. Remy was afraid to hide alone so I told her to come with me. Let me tell you now that no matter how loving a mother I am, I will NEVER let Remy hide with me again! She whispers SO LOUD and then when you have your hand over her mouth she will all of a sudden jump up and start running and screaming bringing attention to you. I had to be it a few times thanks to her!

Eventually it was Easy's turn to be it which sucks cause not only is he fast, but I swear he can see in the dark like a vampire. Running in the back yard I panicked and hid behind the "Charlie Brown" tree (my mom planted this small fir that I promise looks just like the tree in Charlie Brown; we even hang an ornament on it at C'mas and it hangs over LOL). Jaison was hiding in the bamboo forest my mom planted in the corner of the yard and kept saying, "Psst, he's going to catch you shoog. I can still see you." Luckily just as he came into the back yard Ash (who was hiding in a flower bed behind azealeas) started running around the yard in circles screaming. Jaison and I took off running for the porch...yes I know, something was obviously up with Ash, but we left her to her fate. Safe on the porch, Easy (like the mighty hunter he is) went for the weakest member of the pack, Ash, who was stripping as she ran to my aunts next door. Apparently she had laid down in fire ants and they were in her pants. As she crossed the driveway she tripped over my mom (who had hidden here every time, but was somehow invisible) and did a few somersaults right into my aunt's picket fence. Oh, Ashley...sometimes I wonder about you.

Since Ash was out of commission (she ran right into the shower to get the ants off), Easy went for the elderly of the pack and caught my mom, who squealed like a banshee. My mom decided to let Remy hunt with her (Remy had been watching SpongeBob w/ my stepdad inside). Remy must have Easy's vamp blood because she could see in the dark too. Thankfully, Josh is slower than me (he was hiding next to me) and he got caught. As he was counting Ash ran back over, hid too close to base and was caught right away. This is where Ash almost made me pee my pants laughing. After counting she ran into the backyard armed with that trusty flashlight. Me, Easy, Jaison and David snuck right past her (she is blind but refuses to wear her glasses) and were on base. My mom (w/Remy holding her hand) actually outran her and Sam ran backwards taunting her. That left Josh to be found. She flushed him out of the flower bed and was chasing him all over the yard. Feeling bad for her (Josh was taunting her and not even trying to run to base) I yelled, "Throw the flashlight!" In our family we can be vicious and we all knew that meant throw it and hit Josh in the head. Ash is just too new to the family cause she stopped running, threw the flashlight down on the ground and then started chasing Josh again. We all looked at David who was shaking his head at his wife. What did she think?! That the flashlight was slowing her down?! Oh Ash...she sadly did not catch Josh. We continued playing until 1am when Bob made mom go in to bed. {excuse us while we call her whipped and make fun of her} Jaison decided to start tormenting Remy and rubbed his sweat all over her...EWWWW!! She freaked and started crying (I would have too) so I decided it was time for bed (we were spending the night at my aunts). Say night!. See ya'll tomorrow!
