Boooo!

My husband is in mourning! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_9.gif' border=0></a>

Hooray! Lori- my thoughts exactly. UNC grad BA 1992, JD 1995

I think he will fall flat on his face in the NBA. His system is geared toward 18 year olds who play college ball. I don't think he will be able to handle the attitudes of NBA players.

My parents are both Duke fans and all three of us kids are Tarheels. Interesting household in March!

May be the only way that UNC can beat Duke is to get the Lakers to take coach K away.. LOL

Wow! That's not nice!

You know, as a household that strongly supports Duke, we didn't bash Roy Williams when he took over at UNC. In fact, we praised him and think he's doing an excellent job!

Whatever happened to a FRIENDLY rivalry!

Anyway, most of the pro players act like 18 year olds. In that case, Coach K should be all set.

currycook - good one!

cynsaun - I am actually surprised that it has taken so long for a NBA team to lure Coach K away. But now with his kids grown, maybe he feels like it is time to try something new. I really hope he does well in the NBA.

I love the rivalry! I don't get anyone to spar with up here in VT and really miss it.

When I was in college, I camped out for tickets. I would usually get home fairly late. If UNC won, my dad could expect a phone call, if Duke won, I would hear from my dad. I sure miss those days.

Any word on who will replace Coach K?

Go Tar Heels!

Hey Mickeyboat! We are moving to NH next year, so we will be kind of close for a rivalry! :teeth:

I am actually quite surprised that it has taken so long, too. I think that Coach K has had enough of the NCAA. He wasn't happy with the addition of schools to the ACC. And, he is not happy that a rule isn't being put in place for going pro as there is in football.

I can see his point with the recruits. I can't imagine how much time and energy the coaches and asst. coaches of these college teams put into recruiting a high school kid. The kid says he intends to go to X University, and then at the last minute said kid decides to go pro.

Just my thought, though. I hope he stays at Duke (for the sake of the harmony in our house! )

And he would be CRAZY to make the move. He should learn from Rick Pitino's mistake. Who in their right mind would want to coach in the NBA, considering the work ethic of professional players and lack of real officiating in the games? It certainly wouldn't be anything like the control he's had over his program in the past.

cynsaun - we should get together for the games! What a hoot! Your DH will be very disappointed with the lack of media coverage of the games up here. I hardly even know who won unless I look really hard! You will see a lot of UNC fans up here, kids with hats, etc.

Dodie - I also thought about Rick Pitino. And Rick Pitino ran a much different program at Kentucky than Coach K does at Duke. It will be interesting, to say the least. Of course, Boston is not the easiest place to coach, either. Maybe coming into a winning program will make the transition easier for Coach K.

That would be a hoot!

Believe me, I know about the coverage...it's a GOOD thing! We are not originally from here, he just went to school at Duke and knew the area from that.

We lived in CA and TX and never really had coverage to watch. Needless to say, he was so much easier to live with back then during basketball season!:teeth:

When we moved here he snowballed me by telling me about all the trees, the four seasons, etc. He FAILED to mention that the coverage is amazing here, and he would really leave me for the TV during the "season." :teeth:

But, it was all part of our wedding vows. I promised to love, honor, and cheer for Duke always!

:p

My husband is a newspaper sportswriter in Durham who covers Duke basketball and football. This crap is ruining our weekend and may cost us our vacation thats scheduled for next week. And if K does go the rest of our summer is ruined - there will be tons of stories about him leaving and then tons of stories about the hiring of a new coach. So in our household this is NOT good news. Even though my husband doesnt like dealing with K.

By the way - my husband is a Carolina grad who grew up a State fan. So even though he's not a Duke fan he sure doesnt want to deal with the implications of what this could mean.

Well he's impossible to interview. If you dont get him at a press conference you dont get him. Other coaches are much more accessible. So he doesnt have anything against him personally - its just harder to do the job.

Aw K, please don't go. There's no one I enjoy pulling against more!

:teeth:

I do like your post, though, pirateofthecarolinas.

cynasaun -- It's not a particularly friendly rivalry. I sat next to the Dook student section at the tournament in 1978 and vowed I would never be for Duke in a game against anyone ever. Haven't either, although it was a bit odd to be for Kentucky over an ACC team a couple weeks later. Of course, it's gotten a lot easier since then . . .
