It seems like everyone who works on the Disney Cruiseline is from overseas. I was impressed by the large number of employees who are from Asia, South America and Africa. I enjoyed reading everyone's badges to see what country they came from. What an eye opening experience!

This can not be said for the passengers on the Disney ship I took last month. As a person of color myself I was just shocked how homogeneous the passengers were. Maybe 99% white and mostly white collar middle American types. Sure there were many nice people and I do not feel like we were discriminated against but wish the passengers on the Disney Cruises would be more like the rich ethnic diversity of America.

Yes, there were some Europeans that looks like Americans, but almost no Asians, Blacks or people speaking Spanish. I am sure there will be replies telling me one of the following:

Why does it matter?
Yes there was diversity on my ship

(I believe these replies are just an attempt at political correctness and I know it is not true)

Without getting into denial, or politically correctness, or name calling, I think this would be a great topic of conversation?

I have seen many different people and cultures in the cruising public on DCL, not just USA, and Canada, but there are a lot of us British, and in the Med last year, there were a diverse amount of cruisers experiencing DCL, for the first time form the whole of Europe and also Northern Africa and the Middle east.

The problem is DCL tends not to advertise outside of the USA, and we only hear about it by word of mouth, in the UK we struggle to get any information form DCL, and whilst we have Disney marketing us for WDW and DLP, DLC, doesn't do this so most people do not know about DCL and cruise elsewhere.

To be perfectly honest, I don't even see where this should be a topic of conversation, except as a way to start arguments. DCL is a business that does not "choose" their customers. True, they choose their advertising, but that is directed at a targeted age and income demographic and not race.

Would you please explain what your intention is by bringing up the "ethnic diversity" of YOUR DCL cruise? I question your reason for doing this because you apparently created a specific user name for this question. That makes me think you are looking for an argument. JMHO

No I am not looking for an argument but an interesting discussion on a cold rainy winter day. Lets talk about something interesting, but if you are not interested, just do not reply and try to limit interesting discussion.

You want to have a discussion about it, but you preemptively said you don't want anyone who disagrees with you?

What is this discussion going to consist of?

Yes, you are right. They are so homogenous. It is terrible! Disney is clearly evil.

First of all I think this is a troll just starting trouble since this is their first post

I will, however, give my opinion - maybe it was just the sailing you were on
This is definitely not the case at the theme parks

The discussion would be an analysis of why the cruises are 99% white!

I think the quotes above say it all. And I am going to be guilty of what I am about to suggest.
DON'T FEED THE TROLLS
.

I do not see this thread going in a good direction. If we don't fed them, they will die, as trolls should. Trolls need to be fed in order to survive. If we cut off their food source, Bye Bye Troll.

I totally agree!!!!!! Bye bye!!!

Okay, I am going to feed the troll!

You asked us to leave political correctness out of it, and I am about to do as you requested.

Your last statement indicates that you already thing DCL is doing something racially motivated to inhibit the use of their travel services by non-caucasians. BTW, I find it interesting that in your first post you referred to ethnic diversity of persons by their country of origin, and even referred to yourself as a "person of color", but when it came time to refer to those who you said comprised the majority of the passengers, you called them "white". So, from the beginning, you have established that you have a predispositional stance of racism against those who would identify themselves as caucasian.

Now, what is extremely hilarious to me is that you assume since a person is caucasian, that this somehow indicates they are of one race and ethnic origin. (Oh, just so you know, that is the definition of racism...pre-judging based on the color of one's skin.) Now, why do I find this so hilarious? My great-grandmother was full blooded Cherokee Indian. Would you know this by seeing me on the ship? Probably not, unless you noted that my hair is mostly black and my skin tans a little more easily than some. But, YOUR assumption is that I am white.

As I stated previously, DCL may have target demographics, but they do not control their passenger base, other than by setting their fares. So, you must first throw out your pre-conceived notion that DCL is strictly targeting middle-class caucasians. They may be targeting middle class, but I don't think there is a racial bias in their advertising...have you seen ALL of their commercials and advertising.

It sounds to me as if you are someone who went looking for an issue. I challenge you to cruise other lines and see if they have the same racial make-up of passengers...I bet they will be similar in numbers. Is this a wholesale effort by the cruise industry to discriminate and only allow "ethnics" to hold a position of service? Absolutely not. But, you had your mind made up when you started this thread, and you made a point of noticing the racial make-up of your fellow passengers, so I think you had a racial predisposition when you started the cruise and nothing will change your mind.

As this topic serves no constructive purpose towards cruising, it will now be closed.
