A reminder of the cast

Me - 42 years old (ouch!)
Wife Denise also 42 (heh heh) I think we refer to her as DW here
Son Tom almost 12, DS?
Daughter Rebecca (Becky) 10 going on 19, and therefor DD

So to day 2, and we had a breakfast pass for 7 oclock, which there was no chance of us making. So we staggered over at 8 oclock and as we had missed our slot joined the queue which stretched back into reception. When we made it I was quite impressed, ham and cheese rolls, marmalade croissants, creme caramel, orange juice and coffee, starts you off for the day pretty well.

Believe me we needed it it was foggy and frosty, and I don't think temperatures got above freezing all day as although the mist lifted, but the cloud refused to shift.

We caught the bus and arrived in Disnyland Park just ahead of opening at 9 and went in the Paddy Wagon down Spooky Street and straight through to Fantasyland, first stop, get a Fastpass for Peter Pan, about 90 minutes away, so straight onto Dumbo before a queue builds.

Now my wife and I took one Dumbo, with the kids behind us on another, and despite being 2 sad 42 year olds, that ride put us right in the Disney spirit. flying up over Fantasyland with the Dumbo music playing, and the kids laughing behind us, it's one of those Disney moments, that are simple but bring a lump to your throat. and the sad thing is apparently the new management at DLP want to stop everyone over the age of 12 riding. Why for goodness sake, Walt wanted somewhere adults and kids had fun together, and there we were a family doing just that. Please DLP think again, every other Disney Park can cope with over 12s on Dumbo, and they all get bigger crowds.

Ok rant over after that in quick succession it was the Carousel, Snow White, Pinocchio, a character greeting with Minnie and John Radcliffe and on to Peter Pan for Fast Passes, which by the way had usually all gone by about 11.00 oclock.

Then we moved on to the teacups, the Maze despite the guide saying it was closed, a peek through the fence at the Christmas decorations going on to Belle's Village and to wrap up Fantasyland It's a Small World.

By now DS and DD were clamouring for food, so it was off to the Cable Car bake Shop on Main, sorry Spooky Street for muffins, cookies and coffees, oh well diet when we get back.

On to Discoveryland, and the clock outside Le Visionarium said 30 seconds until the next show, so in we went. I love this attraction the 360 degree film is great, the music uplifting and the audio animatronics work brilliantly. Quite why it never seemd to catch on at other Disney Parks is beyond me.

Next into the big place with the airship outside, can't remember what it's called where we saw Mickey's ShowTime, sat on the front row. It's OK, the singers sing live, and sing well, and there are about a dozen characters, but it's a bit basic.

We decided to get a Fast Pass for Star Tours next as all the Space Moutnain ones had gone, and our time was for about 3 1/2 hours later, so we decided to go back to the hotel for a break.

Whether we were just lucky with the buses I don't know but on no occasion did we have to wait for more than about 2-3 minutes, just as well really otherwise hypothermia would have set in.

Me, and DW collapsed on the beds and fell asleep, DS and DD didn't.

So after far too short a period we were awakened and back on the bus to Disneyland, first stop in Discoveryland was Nautilus, now it's only a walkthrough, but there is tremendous detail and atmosphere, we always spend some time there as this does what a good Disney attraction should - takes you to another world, I love it. After that it was up to Star Tours, still a good laugh, despite an annoying woman on the back row taking flash pictures throughout.

Honey I Shrunk the Audience is next door, so straight in there, 5 minute wait and we was in, sadly it was in French so we had to use the translator headphones, a good show but getting a bit old now, candidate for an update DLP.

A sedate walk across the park brought us to Adventureland and Pirates of the Carribbean, always a walk-on at DLP - wrong, the queue reached outside, that equates to about 30 minutes. Any way as we all love this ride, and hadn't queued all day, we decided to join it, and there's plenty to look at once you get inside.

It's a much better ride than the WDW equivelant, with a couple of fast drops, and breathtaking scenes, with virtually all the AA figures seeming to be in full working order.

We then walked through Adventurteland, stunning at night by torchlight and into the bazaar to do the Aladdin walk through, a DLP exclusive with windows showing detailed models showing scenes from the film.

And with that we decided to retire for the day after a pleasant walk along Main Street, taking in the Liberty Arcade and Tableau and a few shops which were packed. We decided on a walk back through Disney Village, past the New York and back to the Cheyenne for Dinner. A sort of a buffet wild west type meal which was OK, nothing special but filled us up.

Finally back to the room with DD complaining because she wasn't tired, and we all went to bed, guess who was asleep first, "I'm not tired DD Becky"

I had a few moments to lay and have a think before dropping off, it had been a good Disney day, great rides, loads of characters, and then it dawned on me we hadn't ridden one roller coaster. it just shows to me the main thing is a Disney park is attarctions which tell stories and have top notch theming. Having said that we all love the coasters, and they would be ridden tomorrow.

I love reading your reports:D It reminds me of my holiday this summer. DLP does tend to have the attitude of Disney is for kids, not adults.

When you queued to see the characters did you have any problems with the french pushing in and being really rude? When I have been there I only got to a few autographs as ppl always pushed in front so I either got to upset and left or the characters left.

Hi thanks for your comments!

Yes I tend to think of it as a character beating rather than a character greeting. The minute any characters appeared they disappeared under a scrum of (mainly French) youngsters, and their parents!

We got most of our pictures at the studios where it wasn't as busy and in the hotel foyer we had characters visit, including Mickey Mouse and Woody from Toy Story.

In the studio we saw Stitch, the Treasure Planet characters, plus the classics, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto Chip and Dale.

We did see more charcaters than ever before, so it does seem as though DLP is providing the opportunities for pictures, if only their minders would organise a queue rather than just stand around and watch the ensuing melee every time a Disney character makes an appearance.

No more Dumbo for adults!!!!! I can't believe it...that is so not fair :(

Thanks for the report :)
