The Incredible Expanding Women - 14 days on the DxDP ~ COMPLETE!

Great Reviews , I have to agree with the Fired Wontons and pineapple dessert at Y & Y, it was delish when I had it . Those ribs looked pretty good too, I have to give it another try sometime !!

We've always enjoyed the food at Y&Y. It's not outstanding (except for those wontons), but everything has always been good enough to keep us coming back for more. :thumbsup2

Now Raglan Road is my MUST do every trip !!! I absolutely love the place !!! Have never had a bad meal or service there !! My favorite dessert there is the Raspberry Pavlova !! I have tried so many dishes and all have been great !! I had the Ham Scnitzel last time and it was SOOOOO huge I couldn't eat half of it !!!

Raglan Road is a must do for us every trip too! We haven't missed it since our first visit as it's always been consistently good. Nancy really enjoyed the Raspberry Pavlova too, and I love lemon meringue so the Fluffy Lemon Clouds is my idea of dessert heaven. If you enjoyed the Schnitzel you should try Kevin's Heavenly Ham, it was amazing!

Thanks for reading and commenting! :goodvibes

Dinner that evening was at another restaurant that was new to us, Citricos in the Grand Floridian Resort.

I'm going to preface this by saying that this meal was a wonderful experience for both of us, but especially for my sister. I had noted that our trip was to celebrate Nancy's birthday, and Citricos really made it special for her. :lovestruc

They seated us at a table right next to the open kitchen, so we could watch the chef's work their culinary magic and were told we were welcome to ask questions if we wished. It was amazing to watch them work, they are definitely artists in their own right.

Our server came over and introduced herself right away, and miracle of miracles, I do remember her name as it was the same as my sister's ... Nancy. She was probably the best server we had during our two week dining odyssey. She was very attentive, knowledgable, made wonderful suggestions and made us feel like we were the only people she was serving. She was fantastic!

She handed Nancy a special menu in honour of her birthday.

Citricos_Bday_Menu.png

While we were studying the menu, Nancy brought us some ice water and the complimentary bread service.

Citricos_Bread.png

The breads were olive and the other was a rye. Both were served warm and were accompanied by butter topped with sea salt. We enjoyed them both, but the olive was my favourite.

One of the chefs sent over a special amuse bouche in honour of my sister's birthday, and Nancy told us to spead it on our bread to really experience it fully. She didn't steer us wrong, it was delicious.

Citricos_Amuse_Bouche.png

Amuse Bouche: pureed roasted tomatoes with crème fraiche, extra virgin olive oil and micro greens.

For her appetizer, Nancy chose:

Citricos_Chicken_Bsteeya.png

Ashley Farms Chicken B'Steeya: in crisp dough with Orange Blossom Honey and Toasted Almonds.

Nancy really, really enjoyed this. She loved the combination of savoury and sweet. I tried a bite and while it was nice, it's not really my cup of tea. She gave it 5/5. I gave it 3/5, but only because I don't really appreciate the flavour combo, not because the dish was bad.

I chose:

Citricos_Roasted_Beets.png

Roasted Beets: Cumin-scented Goat Cheese, Applewood-smoked Bacon Lardons, and crisp Arugula.

I love beets so I thought this salad would be right up my alley. Unfortunately the bacon lardons were very overcooked, making them quite tough and difficult to eat. I also didn't care for the cumin-scented goat cheese. The beets were delicious though, lol. Nancy tried it and wasn't overly impressed either. We both give this dish 3/5, and we're probably being generous.

For my entree, I was seriously considering either the Madeira braised Short Ribs or the Pan Seared Florida Black Grouper, that is until I saw the Veal Shank plated and waiting for pick up. Both Nancy and I thought it looked (and smelled!) heavenly so we both decided to order it.

Citricos_Veal.png

Braised Veal Shank: Roasted Elephant Garlic Smashed Yukon Gold Potatoes, Rainbow Carrots, Heirloom Long Beans and Toasted Citrus Gremolata.

I think this is seriously the best thing I've ever eaten in my life! We were told this was braised slowly for hours, so the meat is literally falling off the bone. It's so tender it melts in your mouth and all the accompaniments were absolutely perfect. We couldn't finish it but we both put a good dent in it! Superb! Definitely a 5/5.

After the plates were cleared, Nancy brought this surprise out for my sister.

Citricos_Bday1.png

Citricos_Bday2.png

It was a thoughtful gesture and very much appreciated. :goodvibes

Nancy also kindly offered to take a picture of us.

Citricos_N_C.png

See the chef photobombing us behind the counter? That guy was an absolute hoot, he was always joking around. When he was working, he was very serious and focused, but once it was done he was ready to have fun, lol!

We were both really full at this point so Nancy (our server) suggested splitting their signature dessert, the Warm Chocolate-Banana Torte.

Citricos_Dessert.png

Served with vanilla ice cream and a handcrafted Belgium Chocolate Couverture Crown.

Nancy isn't usually a fan of banana desserts, but she really enjoyed this. Splitting it was a great idea because it was just enough to satisfy your sweet tooth without making you feel as stuffed as the Thanksgiving turkey. The chocolate crown was excellent too, definitely made with quality chocolate. The sprinkles under the ice cream were really good as well. I'm not sure what they were, but they also had a delightful chocolate/caramel flavour. 5/5

This was a fabulous evening and Nancy really appreciated the extra-special touches in honour of her celebration. Citricos proved to be an excellent choice and we would (and did!) return again. ;) Overall, Citricos gets 4.5/5 from us.

Love your title! :rotfl:

Your Citrico's meal looks and sounds wonderful. I love how they treated your sister for her Birthday :) During our next trip we have 2 Birthdays and our wedding anniversary :goodvibes

Thank you so much for your wonderful reviews and pictures. We are going next September for our second trip and are looking to branch out and try new places so this has been very helpful!!! We ate at Le Celliar last time and loved the filet and had planned on going back but your filet at Jiko looked fabulous. If you could only choose one which would it be?
Also so glad Nancy had such a special birthday - it looked magical. Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip.

The fruit was absolutely incredible! It was a perfect finish to our brunch, we both enjoyed it immensely!

The birthday cone was a very thoughtful gesture, and Nancy said the ice cream was wonderful, creamy and rich. The "Happy Birthday" sign was made of chocolate too. :)

LOL! The title came from how we both started to feel about halfway through our holiday. ;)

Subscribing! Loving this thread. :goodvibes

Thanks so much for reading along! :goodvibes

They really made her feel special, which really warmed my heart. You have some great celebrations coming up and I hope you have a wonderful time! My DH and I will be celebrating our 32nd anniversary on our upcoming trip too. :lovestruc

Choosing between the filet at Le Cellier and the one at Jiko is a very, very tough decision, lol! They're both amazing in their own right. I think if I could only have one, Le Cellier's version would probably edge out Jiko, but only because I adore the mushroom risotto and truffle butter sauce. However, if you've already experienced Le Cellier, perhaps try Jiko this time around? Jiko is a lovely restaurant, and the AKL is absolutely gorgeous too. It's nice to arrive early and look around. I know you'll have a fabulous meal no matter which you choose. :thumbsup2

Nice Citricos review! It truly is a wonderful dining experience :)

Just subscribed! Your meals so far look fantastic, and I'm looking forward to reading about the rest!

Glad you had very good experiences at Jiko, Raglan brunch, and Citricos. :goodvibes Agreed on Jiko's peach and tomato salad - it was absolutely amazing, and I regret not ordering it again in October when I had the chance.

As for Citricos, this place has been off our radar for a very long time - it's been two and a half years since we last ate there! The chicken b'steeya looks great to me, so maybe we have to consider Citricos for next time. :thumbsup2

Great review and pictures. Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup2
Can't wait for the rest.

Thank you so much, more coming up soon!

Looking forwards to the rest of the report . :-)

I'll be posting our experience at the Food & Wine Festival shortly. :thumbsup2

We loved our experience at all three places and I'm still dreaming about that salad. ;)

My sister really enjoyed the chicken b'steeya. As I mentioned, it's not my favourite flavour combination but the dish was well seasoned and the pastry was wonderfully tender and flaky. I could definitely appreciate that. If you and your mom decide to return, I hope your experience is as memorable as ours was. :goodvibes

The next day we had an easy morning. We had originally planned to have breakfast at the Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club resort but decided to skip it as we were planning to enjoy some of the selections at the Food & Wine Festival booths for lunch. We decided to arrive at Epcot early (around 11:30) to start "eating around the world".

Our first stop was Australia:

FW_Australia.png

Garlic Shrimp with Roasted Tomatoes, Lemon Myrtle and Rapini.

I liked this so much better than the "Shrimp on the Barbie" available last year. The addition of the tomatoes and rapini really complemented the shrimp and the sauce was delicious. 4/5

Next stop, Mexico. Nancy chose:

FW_Mexico1.png

Taco de Ribeye with Salsa de Chipotle and Sangria.

This was delicious, the steak was extremely tender and the salsa had a kick without being overpowering. 4.5/5

I had:

FW_Mexico2.png

Shrimp Taco with Purple Cabbage and Sangria.

This was even better than the steak taco! Absolutely delicious! The Sangria was also very tasty, not too sweet but full of fruit flavour. One of the better Sangrias I've had. 4.5/5

Our next stop was Germany, we both chose:

FW_Germany2.png

Schinken Nudel (Pasta Gratin with Ham & Cheese).

This was good, but nothing special. We both enjoyed it, but honestly it's something you can easily make at home. 3/5

FW_Germany3.png

Roast Bratwurst in a Pretzel Roll, served with hearty brown mustard.

This was really good, I love me a good Brat! It looks a little ridiculous in that tiny pretzel roll, but it's surprisingly filling. :thumbsup2 4/5

FW_Germany1.png

Apple Strudel with Werthers Original Karamel and Vanilla Sauce.

Yum, yum, yum! They had just brought out a new pan when we ordered, so this was lovely, very warm and gooey. 4/5

It was another lovely day, so we took our time strolling around World Showcase, I love this floral display visible from the bridge between France and the UK.

FW_Epcot_Garden.png

So pretty!

We had planned to stop at the Ireland booth for the Fisherman's Pie, and at Greece for the Griddled Cheese with honey, but as it was getting later in the afternoon the crowds were definitely building and the lineup at both booths was insane. We decided to pass.

Our next stop was the Desserts & Champagne Booth:

FW_Desserts.png

(Nancy was holding on to the cupcake so we didn't lose the little sucker! :rotfl:)

Dessert Trio: (clockwise from 12 o'clock) Chocolate Orange Cupcake, Hazelnut Chocolate Cheesecake and Morello Cherry Pistachio Mousse.

These were fine, nothing really special however. My favourite was probably the mousse and I believe Nancy really enjoyed the cheesecake. The cupcake was a cupcake, pretty standard. 3.5/5

We were starting to get rather full by this point and decided we'd try just one more booth before calling it quits. We decided to try a couple of selections from Scotland, since it was new to the Festival. :goodvibes

FW_Scotland1.png

Seared Scottish Salmon with Cauliflower Puree, Watercress and Malt Vinaigrette.

This was truly delicious! The salmon was cooked perfectly and the cauliflower puree was really tasty and a perfect accompaniment. It was very simple, but beautifully done. 4.5/5

FW_Scotland2.png

Vegetarian Haggis with Neeps and Tatties

I know this doesn't look very appealing, but it was delicious. The "tatties" are mashed potatoes and "neeps" are turnips. Nancy and I both enjoyed this way more than we thought we would. 4/5

With our tummies full, we spent the rest of the afternoon just playing in the park. ;)

I am playing DIS Catch-Up today!

I have never seen a review of the RR brunch before. I love the table you got! The scallop forest looks so good. I have heard that this place can do most fried things gluten-free, so I am really intrigued to eat there one day! The idea of the entree sounds great; too bad the execution was rather poor.

Citricos is one of the signatures we did not try in August, so I really enjoyed reading your review of it. I was so excited when I saw your salad, because that thing is right up my alley - but then I read about the bacon being overcooked and :scared1:. Hopefully, they do a better job with it most of the time. I’m not a veal eater, but I am so glad that you got a truly delicious entree here. :woohoo: How great that they made such a wonderful birthday fuss - I just love that!

Yay for F&WF!!! Everything looks so yummy. Dang - I am REALLY hungry!
