The "I Remember when Disneyland" thread...

What are some things from Disneyland's past that you remember? I remember when park tickets were $28.75. Unbelievable, considering the HIGH prices now. I also remember the paddle boats at the DL hotel. I went on a trip there in 2004 expecting to ride them, only to find out they were long gone.

I remember the smoke shop! I worked there.

I remember the PeopleMover when I was very little. So cool. I remember Captain EO, the first time.

Adventures Through Inner Space just rocked! Oh, I LOVED that ride. I even enjoyed its cameo in Star Tours.

Mission to Mars. I swear on a stack of books that I went to Mars.

Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. Every nook and cranny was filled with things to look at and marvel over.

I remember the sky buckets from fantasy land to tomorrow land. I also remember America Sings. I was so sad when they took that out. It was one of my favorites, I loved the moving theater. Of course most of America sings ended up in Splash Mountain so I get a little trip down memory lane when I ride.

I remember when I went to DL....I saw Dianna Ross perform there..does that tell my age!!! Also the Matterhorn which I beleive is still there and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was so cool.

Skybuckets were my favorite when I was little!

How about the two separate Autopias? The Tomorrowland side and the Fantasyland side?

And I really like the Rocket Rods... when they worked... for like the one day that they were actually open! Those went away too soon

I remember when we bought our ride tickets in booklets for A,B,C,D, and E rides. I went to Disneyland for the first time in 1957 so there have been lots of changes since then.

I remember getting eaten by a whale in Fantasyland, seeing the girder framework in the Matterhorn (pre-Abominable Snowman), getting dizzy watching America the Beautiful, and NEVER riding the Columbia (it was always down when I was there). Finally, I remember a time that, no matter where you were in the park, you could see NOTHING of the outside world.

I miss America sings I was watching a you tube video someone posted for the whole show. How awesome to watch that.

I went for the first time that year too.

I also remember riding donkeys through the painted desert that is now BTMR

I remember when DCA was a parking lot and the first ride of the day was the tram from the lot to the Front Gate!!!

I remember dancing at Videopolis! Oh, and the short lived Rocket Rods...and the motor boats in Fantasyland.

I totally forgot about the Smoke Shop. Wasn't there a Cigar Indian outside the store?

The Indian is still there, believe it or not.

I remember when they would close the park at night to the public and CTA members (California Teachers' Assoc.) could get in for $5.00.

I feel honored to among the few who rode rocket rods!

Monsanto's Home of the Future.....the Tahitian Terrace - I swear my little brother's eyes were taking it all in (those girls in their grass skirts!)

The "Tuna Boat" way back in Fantasyland where you could buy tuna sandwiches. And yes, I remember the Mule Ride thru the Painted Desert too.

I love seeing the Carousel in Progress when I go to WDW, because I still miss it at Disneyland.

America the Beautiful's pre-show was fun. The hostess would ask people to identify the flags over their heads. There was one that no one could figure out and she'd say it was the "State of Confusion"! Don't know why that sticks out in my mind.

There were large phone booths that many people could sit in and make calls. When we went without our parents, we'd call home and sit there and tell them all about our trip. Those conversations were so much fun!

The only visit to DLR I made was with my family in 1971. I was 5. The most memorable attraction for me was the Rainbow Canyon- we rode on real live donkeys!

My favorite rides were It's A Small World and the Carousel. I was scared in Pirates of the Caribbean- thought the cannonballs were going to hit our little boat during the fort vs ship scene.

I was too little and scared to ride, but my brother loved the Matterhorn. I do remember seeing the inside of the mountain, though- did the train go through? Or another ride?

I also liked the Pinocchio ride and the little miniature Storybook land we rode a little train or boat (?) through. And Mr Toad's Wild Ride!

Can't remember- in 1971, was it Mission to Mars, or still Mission to the Moon? I remember sitting around a railing, and we all looked in the center, and it was like we were blasting off.

I remember the tuna boat, and the flags. I'd been so many times I knew just about every flag, including the "State of Confusion"!! And we'd always find someone to call from the phones.

I remember in '86, all the (tween and teen) girls were wearing Disneyland sailor hats. And of course, I had to get one too. They were really cute.

I grew up by disneyland. I remember when I was kid in the 70's it was surrounded by strawberry fields and farmland. I remember it cost $9 to get in and we had a,b,c,d and e tickets.
