The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

I think I've been bit by the holiday bug. I've been listening to Christmas songs and I bought and wrapped presents for my co-workers.

It's too soon! We haven't even had Thanksgiving yet! I used to know someone who decorated her place for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving, which I thought was nuts. I'd get sick to death of the stuff if I had it out that long. :rotfl:

But right after Halloween? Too much for me! :faint:
Most people I know do it the day after Thanksgiving. I think that is a great idea!
Oh yeah, I read this just before I got here. Friends of ours live in Issaquah and get this sort of thing all the time (cougar, I think there was a bear last year.) It's a little too close to nature for me!

An AFRICAN Lion??? A cougar, a bear... all that I can deal with. But an AFRICAN lion?? NOPE.

And I spent 200,000 of one of my bosses credit card points today. Got the kids a Wii comes with 4 "current" games.:lmao: And got the rest in gift cards, $800 JC Penny, $600 Sears and $100 Starbucks. Now all I have to do is wait for them to arrive so I can go shop, shop, shopping.:thumbsup2

Looking at your "must buy" list .. UGH!

The best thing my mom gave me for when the boys were lil babes is a nice supply of homemade receiving blankets. She bought a large yardage of flannel and hemmed the cut ends. Much larger than the store bought wimpy things, those were so small I could barely swaddle my little beasties.

The ones my mom made held up thru both of the boys plus carried on into their early childhood.. they made a nice cape for superhero loving lil boys, used as light weight blankets in summer, snuggle up in after being at the pool, something to sit on at the park.

They held up wash after wash. And it brought a smile to my face to know my mom hemmed each one by hand. ::lovestruc
Not sure the dimensions, HUGE is how I would describe it  maybe lap blanket sized?

Just something to consider.

:thumbsup2 I cant WAIT to start getting everything ready! :woohoo:

Last year my aunt worked for a silk flower shop. They had a huge sale on fake christmas trees that come with lights. We got one for less than $100 and it's tall. I love the smell of real trees but it's hard to clean up afterwards (vacuuming all the needles). We saw a similar fake tree at Target for $300! :scared: :faint:

I have been slowly buying disney ornaments. I love buying a few every year. They have some 3 for $20 at Disney Store and I had a gift card so I got some. They have cute ornaments. :goodvibes

My favorite baby item was handmade sleepers that MIL found at a bazzar. They were flannel (the bag type, with no legs) that just zipped up the front. DD always slept so soundly in them and they eliminated the need for blankets. I had them in several sizes, used them for both kids and handed them down to my nephews.:thumbsup2

My mom made me and my older sister soft cotton blankets that had bunnies printed on it. I think she still has them and they never fell apart or got dirty. I had a pink one and my sister had a yellow one, or the other way around....I don't remember. :rotfl:

We are about done buying for Alex.. and we STILL cant figure out what to get for Mikalah. I was thinking doll house. But.. I dont know if that is what she would really like. Then.. I think. Seriously. She is 3. She will like anything. But I dont want to get her crap. They have enough crappy toys. I know what she REALLY wants. A pet. :scared: Not gonna HAPPEN. She has this bizarre love for animals.. that no one else in our family does, except maybe her dad. I never went through this with Alex. I dont know..
