This is the place for my fellow history buffs here on the DIS to discuss our love of history.

One quick question: What part of history fascinates you the most? For me, it's the royal families of Europe, particularly the Tudor family and the story of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nicholaievna.

Great ideal for a thread :thumbsup2

I would say military history does it for me. WWII for years and now WWI are what I enjoy the most. :)

After taking APUSH last year I have become such an American History junkie! haha anything and everything dealing with the Colonial Age to Now = <3

**Great Idea for a thread btw!:)

Does being a fan of Horrible Histories count...? I wasn't really that interested in history at school, but I read a lot of the books during lunch, and the TV show is really awesome. But it's not really the sorts of things you learn in school. I found one of the books at home (well, it's two in one), so I've been reading that recently. Groovy Greeks and Rotten Romans. But I understand they don't sell the books in the USA, which is a shame.

Here are a few videos to show what I'm talking about (the TV show, which is based on the book).

Hmm... That's more than a few... Oh well! Also, I'd like to point out it's a kids show, just in case you're wondering (since it doesn't really seem like one. Actually, they've been showing the best parts of the first two seasons as a new show with Stephen Fry presenting it, and it's shown on BBC1 on Saturdays).

If this show was on when I was younger, then I might of been more interested in history, which is a shame.

I am a huge religious history fan! I am about the hugest mythology nerd! I love Percy Jackson also ( THE MOVIE STINKS!!!), because of the mythology. I am also a big architecture history geek! I like Adobe, Tudor, and Craftsman among others!

The european monarchy is my FAVORITE!! I thought i was the only one. But ive never heard of anastasia? Who is she? I'm reading the dear america books right now. theyre really good if you like history in diary kinda form. Theyre pretty good. I like all the royal diaries...not taking place in america. I also love greek myhtology. its so interesting. oh...and colonial. that used to be my favorite. i love all the american stuff which then leads me into military history. i love listening to all of their old strategics and moments of bravery it really makes you stop and think. :worship:

omigosh!!! I LOVE those books! They're like my FVAORITE! But they toally screwed up the movie! Annabeth is not like that, appearance or personality wise. and grover is NOT a player. he never even got that stupid shield. aresand clarisse werent even IN the movie. they NEVER went to the "parthenon" in the books. AND he never battled luke!!! Ugh!!! that movie ruined it for me.

I've always loved learning about the 1950's you know with the greasers and chrome and diners!? I also love learning about the medieval times, like Mary Queen of Scots and King Henry the XIII and Bloody Mary. I also enjoyed learning about the 70's and the Vietnam War. I also find it fascinating to learn about very modern history, such as the War on Terror and the attack on the Twin Towers. I know this is geography, but I also like learning about Washington DC. Something about that area draws me in, and I can't explain it.

I love the Dear America series! I even got my friend hooked on the one girl who travels on the Oregon Trail and her friend gets married and stuff? Anastasia was a daughter of a Russian monarch and her family was brought down by rebels. You should look into her and her family history, as I have found it interesting since I was very young.

I think it counts...counts enough for our AP Euro teacher to use them in her lessons :rotfl:

Haha...it's one of my favs too. Has some great quotes. I'm a big, tough girl. Tie my own sandles and everything.
I'm a Damsel...I'm in distress...I can handle it. Have a nice day!
Do you have a name with all those rippling pectorals??
We are worms! Worthless worms!
You mean if he finds out. IF? Ofcourse hes gonna find-Oh. IF. If is good.

Yeah. Our teacher did too during our mythology period. I loved that teacher. When I was in sixth grade doing world culture, my history tecaher showed nemo and the rescuers down under for australia. Mulan for China. Jasmine for Middle East and Arabia. But, after someone answered Agrabah on our history final for what the major country of the middle east is, we had to stop watching disney movies.

In theatre two years back we had to learn the tudor family tree starting with I think Henry 6 or 7 and Elizabeth of York. We had a test on it too.

I'd like to know, when do you start learning about British history in American schools? Also, I don't think we learnt American history at school. At least, not before GCSE, because I didn't continue with History.

I remember we only had a very brief section on British history. We did that during World History. I took that during 9th grade.

It was such a shame because British history is my favourite.

Anastasia was the last daughter of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. They were the nation's last royal family before the Provisional Government came into power in 1918. She's my favorite real princess. And I love the Royal Diaries! My faves are Anastasia, Kaiulani (the last princess of Hawai'i before it became a state), Kristina (former king of Sweden) and Jahanara (daughter of the emperor who built the Taj Mahal).
