Our best ever POP room was 3435!! Last time we stayed in that room was Feb 2006 and it was in much needed updating. Is it better now?

Almost hate to let the secret out about that room - it's that great!! ;)

I recommend it all the time - so happy others enjoy it as much as we did. :)

Hey, Kristineamb!

Easiest to quote marciemouse as I wouldhave said about the same thing (except the room was not in great shape in 2006), but add we could see fireworks from our window as well. We actually saw Wishes and IllumiNations simultaneously one night. ::yes::
I can recommend several great rooms to view IlluminNations or just a nice location. :) We usually have to work the CM at check-in for room location, but it always works out fine. :)

Not to mention the white trailers holding the new matresses! Speaking of which, I don't think mine had been replaced yet, but it wasn't bad at all. The rest of the room was in great shape.

I do not beleive any rooms at pop have been updated ever.

:rotfl: I would have agreed with you until our August stay - the room had actually been painted (although right over the dent in the wall:confused3 ) and the carpet recently cleaned. I was pretty surprised b/c after the 2006 stay in room 3435 we had no plans of ever returning. Tropical Storm Fay changed that and was happy the room (5474, I think) was better shape.

Definitely time for a good POP refurb! ::yes::

Thanks! Was this a preferred room or no? I wasn't planning on paying for the preferred location but it might be worth it if I can see the fireworks from my room.

Nope, no preferred just standard.

RE: Transportation from a late Chef Mickey's - The buses and monorail are supposed to run 2 hours after closing. If you are later than that, you need a cab. Ask at the front desk what is available.

The latest any of the parks are open that night is 8pm. Our dinner res. is at 9pm. We should be done by 10 I would think? What about getting on a bus to downtown disney and then finding a pop bus? I'm not sure what time dtd closes. Otherwise..has anyone here taken a cab from the contemporary to pop? how much might it cost?

Just took a van/cab (there were 5 of us) from Pop to Contemporary on 9/11...can't remember the exact fare but I gave the driver a $20 and told him to keep the change! :thumbsup2

boy oh boy this chef mickey's dinner might cost me more than i thought =/ hopefully we can just find a bus to take us back!

Really
(It opened December 2003)
Apparently they are in the process of changing all the mattresses so maybe that is the start of the refurb :confused3

I think the All stars are all being done first as they are older. When they refurb they usually change the style a bit in each room as well. Though they may do a paint job here and there or clean the carpets, I don't really call that a refurb, just maintenance. (though I'm sure some rooms need it more and sooner than others)

Going to DTD is a great option. They are open later and buses will run back to pop from there. I, myself, avoid cabs, as I just don't want to pay extra when transportation is free. But basically, there should be a way to get back as Disney usually makes sure that there is transportation to everywhere for it's guests, meaning if the resturant stays open till 10, then there should be transportation as well. I know when we had later reservations at 1900 Park Fare we had asked our driver how late the mk buses were running and there was the pirates and princess party going on and I think she said she was scheduled to run till 3 AM.
After the hoop dee doo shows they have buses waiting so no one is stuck with no way back. We just told them which resort and they told us which bus to get on.

DH and I are having dinner at O'Hana at 9:10 in December. Do you think we will be able to get a bus back to POP after dinner? Thanks for your help.

Same deal. I would see how late Mk is open and then if they are running get a bus back from there. If not you can take one to DTD and then over to pop or ask at the hotels desk and see if they will have anything running late for you and where to catch it.

I would check with a WDW transportation "office" - they are at each of the bus stops at the parks. Then you can find out for sure how late the buses will be running or what alternative options you have. For sure you could catch a ride to DD from Contemporary, then a bus to POP from there, as the buses run to DD until at least midnight, although that would be a long trip.

There are buses that run park to park????????
There sure are! The only park that doesn't have a direct park-to-park bus is MK. You have to get a bus from whatever park you're at to the TTC, and then take the monorail or a bus to MK. Park-to-park buses are by far the best way to park hop. They always have the shortest wait times and are the direct route. No bus hopping, no transfers, no others stops, they run quite frequently, and are rarely more than half full, if that. And for Epcot <--> MK transit, the monorail is the best way.

Thanks so much for this information! I never knew!

RE: MK....I like to use the GF as my personal TTC. It's always a pleasure to stop there. ;)

Thanks! I just couldn't pass up such a great deal on the mini fridge. Like I said, I am concerned about room space.

Our first stay at Pop we had a rental fridge AND a pack in play between the table and the window, so space is not really a problem.

Re: Preferred vs. Standard - I think a lot of people get confused as to what Preferred at a Value really means. They think it is the same thing as the moderates and deluxes, where you pay extra for the view. Or for additional ammenities/ better room. At values, there are no "preferred views," and all the rooms are exactly the same (with the exception of accessible or King, which is also the same price.)

Preferred only refers to the location in relation to the Main hall.
So, views of the lake, and possibly the fireworks, are free.
(What a bargain! LOL)

If you want to be very close to Classic Hall, book preferred.
If you want to be very close to the lake, book standard, and request "lake view."
