Do you think this would be too scary for young children? Do any of you have young children that enjoyed it?

My three year old rode it. He wasn't scared....didn't really have much of a reaction at all.

Our 1yr old hated the smoke machines but didn't care otherwise. He laughed at the Alien until the smoke appeared.

Depends on the kids. My sensitive DD would have been scared at 3 in fact I think she was 9 before we took her on it...the alien part was what I was worried about with her.

My son is almost 4 - he's been on the Great Movie Ride during each of our trips to WDW (he's been about 6 times). For the first couple of trips (first one was at 18 months), it didn't seem to bother him at all. Since turning 3, he is now scared of the gun fight, the fire and sometimes the alien. We still go on it...we remind him that it's not real and encourage him to cover his eyes or we just cuddle him for comfort.

I should also add that he is pretty brave normally...he's fine on the Haunted Mansion and likes Tower of Terror and Big Thunder Mountain.

When my boys were younger they would ride it, but didn't really love it. They did not like the alien part, though.

When my kids were preschoolers they were frightened by the Alien scene

My kids have ridden it twice, the youngest age being almost 3. They were both fine and we actually rode it again at their request, as I can take it or leave it. They aren't huge fans of the Alien scene, but the Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppins scenes made it worth it for them to put up with it.

DS 1 was terrified last year with the gunshots and fire. And there's no way to avoid either, even with trying to cover ears or eyes. So I think we won't be riding again for many years, at least until he's old enough to decide for himself whether he's ok with it. (Lots of mommy guilt still lingering, even 1 year later!)

I think DD was 3 or 4 the first time she rode it. I covered her eyes during the alien part and she liked the ride. She is sensitive to noise so she did not like the gunshots because they were too loud, but they did not scare her too bad. We were in the front right next to the tour guide and I was a little worried about that, But we had a female gangster who was very conscious of having a little one right next to her, and she took care to be nice to DD and joke with her and DD loved her. DD was sorry to see her go. I think it is one of those that could go either way depending on your child.

This is a tough one, my DS5 flipped out when the ride got hijacked. He was convinced it was real and spent the remainder of the ride with his head buried. I think if I had discussed that part with him ahead of time it may have helped.

From a former Movie Rider/tour guide (aka: ME!)

If you are worried, get a youtube video and watch it with your kiddo. Talk with them, and explain that there will be a tour guide that disappears but will come back, a guy/girl with a pretend gun, maybe some warm fire, a pretend silly alien, and Mickey at the end along with Wizard of Oz. And that everything is pretend and NOTHING will hurt them. There are some very loud noises, and maybe they want to cover their little ears (gunfire in gangster and western scene, alien as well).

But most of all, NOTHING will hurt them! I've seen kids and adults jump at the alien scene(I never liked driving through there either), but once they see Mickey and Oz, everything is super happy. The movie ending can also be a little noisy, but most kids like it.

I will tell you though...I worked there a LONG time ago, when they still had the "Sorcery in the Skys" fireworks that went off directly behind the theater. We were on lockdown during the fireworks, but still had to keep the dang vehicles rolling. Let me tell you, driving though the aliens by yourself was not a happy thing to do!!!

My 3 year old and 8 year old love it. I just gave them a heads up before the first time we went on the ride as of what to expect and they enjoyed it.
