So... favorite animated films that aren't by Disney? Thoughts on Bluth, Miyazaki, Dreamworks, Blue Sky, early-'90's oddball one-offs ("Ferngully", "Iron Giant", ect.), and whatnot?

Last summer, out of curiosity and misaimed nostalgia, I watched every Don Bluth film Netflix had available in order. It was quite the experience, to say the least.

First and foremost I give you a lot of credit for watching every Bluth film, I actually didn't even know he was resposible for so many amazing animated movies! My favorites of his would be: Anastasia, The Secret of NIMH (in elementary school we had to read the book so naturally the movie followed), and I remember being afraid of A Troll in Central Park when I was younger. I also really liked Thumbelina, why I could not tell you.:rotfl: Me and my best friend critique and make fun of that movie constantly now! Of course The Land Before Time was good but I must admit that I haven't seen all of them.

As for Miyazaki, I love everything he has done. Spirited Away is fantastic!
With Dreamworks,I loved The Prince of Egypt,Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, Shrek, and Kung Fu Panda which I have to say is amazing.

I love Don Bluth films, I grew up on them!
An American Tale, The Land Before Time and Thumbelina are all my favorites. :)

I've only recently gotten into Miyazaki's films, but I truly enjoy them.
My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service are my favorites.

Dreamworks, I haven't seen many but I liked Shrek and The Prince of Egypt is really good.

I love all the Miyazaki films that I've seen, and I hope to eventually see them all. My favourites are Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away.

I also love Anastasia. As a kid I loved The Land Before Time, Fern Gully, The Last Unicorn, Thumbelina, and All Dogs Go to Heaven. But I find that if I were to (and some I cases I did) rewatch any of these, they really wouldn't stand up to my childhood memories of them. I'm not a very big of fan of Dreamworks movies either... I'm always disappointed.

Aww, thanks! :lovestruc

You really, really, really don't need to bother with the sequels. As unpopular as I am sure some of the DTV Disney sequels are here, the (deep breath) not-Don-Bluth-involving sequels to Don Bluth films are across the board worse. :guilty:

Just watched "Tales from Earthsea" last night and it was... eh, decent. Kind of generic coming from Studio Ghibli, though. "Secret of Kells", on the other hand, is wonderful.
