Disney has some exceptional financial planners. Witness the Dining Plan where they have convinced people they are saving money! It filled their restaurants. Or the fact that multi day tickets are just a few dollars a day after the fourth day. Brilliant.

Surely they look at Universal, who according to their website today charges an extra $55 for their "front of the line" pass. Surely the Disney planners want to figure out how to charge for a FastPass, without incurring significant adverse publicity (since they are "free" now).

Step one: limit the number of FastPasses available to a person on one particular day.
Status: accomplished! New FP+ limits are 3 per day, one park, and they even have tiers!

Step two: The new FastPass++ program! Charge for extra FastPasses on the same day. Price them reasonably (how about $5 each), then build packages that make you think you are saving money (how about a "FastPass Plan" or a package of three for $10 or admission tickets with the FastPass++ option).
Status: coming soon

Step three: give extra FastPasses as part of some packages ("your extra FastPasses are FREE if you stay at a deluxe resort, or if you buy a vacation package paying rack rate with tickets!")

Step four: Offer various promotions from time to time (kids extra FastPasses are free in a certain month) so people once again will think they are saving money.

It's coming folks. A wonderful cash cow for Disney, they just need to package it so we thank them for charging us for these passes. Step one, already in progress, is brilliant.

OR ...

Fastpass Plus cancelled due to the overwhelming (on balance) negative impact it will have on the guest experience driving away a significant portion of the dependable repeat guest revenue.

??? :)

Phase one: collect underpants

Phase two: ???

Phase three: Profit!!
