What do you think of it for an upcoming third grade science fiction book report? From the description on Amazon, it seems like a great book; however, my concern is that it may be a little too advanced for an "average" third grader. For those of you that have read it, what do you think?

While I am an avid reader and have been since childhood, I'm not a science fiction fan and don't know of any that would be age and level appropriate for an average third grader. Do any of you science fiction fans have any other recommendations?

I read this as a child (and I am old!)....and our school district uses it as a 4th grade fiction book, but it was way too easy a read for my DD11 last year....but, it is a fantastic read, and it has some interesting "bullying" and social status issues. It has a good morality story line, and it is also a good science fiction read- the boy comes from another "place", so the reader sees our society from an outsider's point of view- very good. This is one of my VERY favorite books from childhood.

If you child is a good reader,or even a decent reader, it should be no problem. If not, I highly recommend it as a read-aloud for the family!!!!
