The Flying Unicorn

is this a "self-tested" theory???

Absolutely!

Thank goodness the kid is now tall enough to join everybody on Fire and Ice.

The wonderful thing about Unicorn are those nice rocks. And the fact that it is pretty well self-contained. I last about 4 rides. Then I sit on the rock and watch DS ride. He waves to me as he passes by into the Express line :goodvibes

But yes, a couple of years ago, I was the mumbling tourist staggering around mumbling about lions roaring (or was it tigers?) and getting ready to soar :goodvibes

Its weird out of all the times I've been there, I have never ridden it or had it on my radar agenda to do, mainly I guess cause in the back of my mind I knew it was a kiddie coaster, but this time I'm going with my girlfriend and her little girl, so will definitely hit this and finally the Pteradon Flyers that I have always wanted to do but never had a child with me to do it with! (PS, I was getting these 2 mixed up in my head too!)

this has been DD's favorite since she was 3. This summer at 8, she would ride it over and over in the front seat by herself. I think FU has been the main reason that for the last 5 yrs she has picked IOA as her fav park.

if you hit P Flyers first thing in the morning, you don't need a child to be able to ride.

we were at IOA a couple of years ago on a dead day when the Flying Unicorn was a walk-on. our daughter and friends did a ride-a-thon while my wife and I retreated to the Alchemy for happy hour. they rode 20 times, we had 3. :)

That's the only way we ever get to ride it.

Same here. If you arrive when the park opens, you can get your front seat ride on Hulk, Dr. Doom, and Spiderman, then head straight to Pteranondon flyers before the kid rule. If no one is waiting in line, they'll let you go again. Then you continue on to Deuling Dragons for a front seat ride on each side.

since i do solo trips to universal i was able to get on the flying unicorn last year. if my friends would have been with me, i know they would have teased me for how long i stayed on that ride.

during hhn, i saw that the ride was open.
i went on it 8 times in a row.

no one else was going on it and the crew there were kewl.
i felt i owed it to them so they wouldn't get so bored.

it is a safe, cute ride.
but my fave if dueling dragons on those coasters......

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: (kinda sad that I know what you mean!)

I LOVE The Flying Unicorn. It is almost always a stop for me when I'm in IOA because unless it is a freakishly busy day, waits for it are usually quite small.

Woo Hoo! All these rave reviews -- I'm getting more excited to ride the Flying Unicorn with my 3yo, than I am to ride Hulk and Dueling Dragons! :woohoo: :woohoo:

well... maybe not really! :rotfl:

I am wondering though is there anyone else out there who enjoys standing by the fence and watching the coaster stop? Worse then most coasters the brakes just grab the ride and stop it very quickly which causes everyone in the train to get thrown forward into the restraint. To me its just funny watching everyone in the train get thrown forward and have the wind knocked out of them.

thats wrong, yet funny :thumbsup2

In all my visits to Universal, I have never ridden the flying unicorn. My son and his friends have not been interested so I have missed it. I also have never gone to the dinasaur dig area, even though that looks like a lot of fun, somehow we have always missed it. Soon I will have a little nephew and niece to take (they are 3 and 1 now) and hope to ride it then!

::yes:: ...that's me. And yes, it is fun to watch, but oh so wrong!! :lmao:
I'd rather not ride FU (eh, maybe just once each visit) because I find it a little rough. Now, it's not really cuz my DS 7.5 rides it and has a blast....but, I usually sit by myself :rolleyes1 and I was literally sliding from one side of the seat to the other in this coaster :rotfl2: . It also hurt my back in a few spots, but the ride otherwise was good. I prefer the higher backed coaster seats (Hulk, DD, etc....) vs. the "wooden" coaster seats....don't let my story deter you from riding...it IS a good ride, just not MY "speed".

My boys loved the flying unicorn each time we have been to IOA. Both times they were able to get off and run back into line and almost get right on again. Here is a pix of DS#3 & 4 at the brake point mentioned above. The only one who did not ride was DS#5 because he is only 3.

The Flying Unicorn is a good ride for the young ones who are a bit scared of the big rides because they will experience how fun they really are! 3 of my nephews (2 are 5 and 1 is 2) all rode it and loved it!! The tow 5 yr olds were a bit scared at first, so I wanted to really act it up about how much fun it would be!! I sat with my niece and we were going to ride with our hands up - BAD IDEA!! The ride goes so fast in a spiral that we were falling all over each other..but it was still all in good fun!! And it gave us something to laugh about later because we couldn't even keep our hands up on a "kiddie ride".

I don't get it :confused3

We (4 adults) hated it. It wasn't thrilling, the brakes were horrible, it was just... yeeuchh!
