The Famous Monte Cristo Sandwich

Years ago, we followed the advice of many to try the Monte Cristo sandwich at The Blue Bayou which was incredibly fattening, but delicious. I remember it being in Disneyland. The current menu no longer has that sandwich. Does anyone know whether that has been discontinued? The more important question is whether there is a similar place in Magic Kingdom in WDW. I don't see any restaurants by that name. Thanks!

It is still available at the Blue Bayou, but for many years now, it has only been on the lunch menu. There are also Monte Cristo sandwiches (2 kinds) at Cafe Orleans across the walkway from the Blue Bayou.

Sorry, it has never made it to any restaurant in DW.

It is currently only served at Disneyland at the Blue Bayou for lunch or at the Cafe Orleans. WDW does not have it at any of the restaurants.

The Monte at DLR is superb. Too bad it has never made it to WDW. I've tried to make them at home, but it's just not the same.:earsboy:

WDW did offer Monte Cristo sandwiches at Town Square Cafe (now Tony's Town Square) but they've been gone for many years now.

I agree that those served at Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans are wonderfully decadent.

That sandwich started our Disneyland vacation out wonderfully! a highlight for sure. I WISH I could get one somewhere in WDW!

Anyone have the recipe????

I love the Monte Cristo sanwich from Blue Bayou. I had one last week for lunch. It really is a shame that they don't offer it in WDW. POFQ should offer it in their food court along with the beignets.

There's no restaurant even remotely like the Blue Bayou in WDW's Magic Kingdom. There's also noplace at WDW that will serve a Monte Cristo sandwich.

As there's not a lot of attention on this board to Disneyland, I'm going to move this to the Disneyland board.

It's been published a number of times. Try Googling "Monte Cristo recipe Blue Bayou." It is also in the current cookbook "Delicious Disney" by Pam Brandon that is still available in the parks.

I'm afraid that if I was capable of making a good Monte Cristo, it would take many years off my lifespan. :rotfl:

Not sure where everyone lives, but Bennigan's (if there are any still open) used to have a Monte Cristo on the menu and a restaurant called Cheddar's also serves one.

If these are in your area you could check them out.

I have had the sandwich at both places through the years and they were YUMMY! (Usually it's more than enough to split between two people.)

I wish they would serve this sandwich at the Port Orleans resort at WDW, although at least we get the muffaletta sandwich there.

Many moons ago the Monte Cristo was available in Disney World at Columbia Harbour House. We're practically planning our October trip to Disneyland around visiting Cafe Orleans to have one there.

The Monte Cristo without meat at Cafe Orleans is FABULOUS!

And the Ahwahnee Lodge at Yosemite also offers a Monte Cristo on its lunch menu. Just in case anyone happens to go there. :)

I had one during our trip in 06, and planning on visiting Cafe Orleans to have another in about 10 days..can't wait! These are so delicious :cloud9:

I have not had a Monte Cristo at any other restaurant that has been as good or decadent as the Disney version. I have made it at home and it was pretty right on. However I used a deep fryer and dredged it in the batter so much that i have to make a double recipe of the batter!

(Here is where I admit to going into panic mode after reading the OP about the monte cristo supposedly being gone.)

Seriously, though...I hope they don't ever get rid of it. I like getting a monte cristo and saving half of it to eat for breakfast the next day. (Sounds gross/potentially dangerous, but I just stick it in a Tupperware and go directly back to my hotel after the meal...never had a problem :thumbsup2)

Just thinking about having this sandwich is making my mouth water. I cannot wait to try this myself.

I think the San Angel Inn restaurant at Mexico in Epcot is similar to Blue Bayou in atmosphere, though not in food.
They're both indoor but give the atmosphere of being outdoor. They both have a railing you can sit at and eat that is at the waters edge as large boats filled with park guests floats by. I've always connected the two restaurants for those reasons, even though one is in the Bayou and one is in Mexico.
