The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

Can anyone give me some insight on the seats on Delta. I am pooh sized and have a hard time squeezing into plane seats without feeling uncomfortable so having an arm rest that moves up gives me more space. I fly with my family so I am not invading anyone elses space but my family in which they are ok with that.

We have only flew with Air Tran but now that southwest has taken over and they don't do direct flights from Detroit, we are looking for a new carrier.

Has anyone flown from Detroit to Orlando on delta? What are the seats like? I was thinking of booking Economy comfort but it looks like the armrest don't more. Do the arm rest move for economy? I am having a hard time finding images or info on this.

The airplane is boeing 767-300 it says for flight DL 2228 I forget the return flight number DL 1424.

Thanks in advance.

I would check out seatguru.com for the best information about the plane you are flying on and the best seats etc. I use it all the time and love it. I haven't flown delta in awhile, so I can't real speak to the specifics. In my opinion, I would try to avoid getting a seat where the arm does not raise and lower. I sit next to a miniature person, also known as my 6-year-old and I love being able to have a little extra room and, obviously not inconveniencing anyone else.

Have a great trip!

I would love to start a group of pooh friends who could support each trying to take on challenges being 274 pounds and 5'4 it will take a lot of work for me to make my goal of running at disney world in 2016.

Faith, Trust, and..PIXIE DUST.

I am 5'4" and 237. I have tried every diet etc out there...so, I placed a mirror on my bedroom door so that I can see myself whenever I am in bed...SHOCK of SHOCKS. I had no idea I looked like this...really. When I look down at myself, I think, I don't look so bad. But for years I have never looked in a full length mirror. Yes, my jeans are size 22 short...but my calves are thin and my feet and hands are small...but the rest of me isn't!! So, I know this sounds self deprecating, but whenever I look at myself while sitting on my bed I say, "hi, fatty"...really I do. I was eating half a gallon of ice cream a day, unlimited candy and sweets and realized this ain't gonna do it...after seeing myself each day I lost my desire for those things I have always craved. I only eat healthy foods, lots of Greek yogurt and fruit, Special K with red berries is as sweet as I allow, and a low fat supper. I have also brought out that daggone fluidity bar and do the beginner every other day. I have only lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks, but as long as it doesn't go up, I am happy. I have always felt so embarrassed on a plane, and worry that I won't get the seatbelt closed, and also my arms impinge on other's seats and it is awful...I have always wanted to lose weight before my next flight or cruise, but now I really am determined to do it right, do it slow, and hopefully I will be a healthy weight in a year or so. I am 64 and have bilateral knee replacements from doing gymnastics in my youth. I am hoping that I will be able to do a 5K in 2016 even if I have to speed walk. One day at a time...but when I see my chubby face looking back at me, I know I have to do something other than eat all day and night!

You can do it. You are eating healthy and exercising. I have never been able to eat the sweets you describe. Your metabolism must be awesome! With your knees...consider joining a gym or getting a weight bench so that you can do more upper body exercises.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. Think I will join a gym when I am not too embarrassed to go in and ask for a personal trainer just to give me ideas for my body type. I am an apple...a huge apple, no more like a beachball! You know, I have often said that with all that I eat I should weight 400-500 pounds. I am pretty much hyper A personality....I have eaten 24 fudgesicles at one sitting, have gone into Dairy Queen and sit down and ate a banana split, gone through the drive in and ordered a second one and a bag of buster bars and sat and ate it all! Eaten a pound of milk chocolate non pariells (sp) on Friday nights...believe me, I am a compulsive over eater of sweets! Not anymore...I can't stop at one. But I do eat watermelon and blueberries which satisfies my craving for sweets!

Has anyone flown AirTran recently?

I am Pooh size, as well as my MIL. I am concerned about being able to buckle the seat belt. I have looked on seatguru, and it shows we are in standard coach seats.

I am 5 ft 4 and 240 lbs, I carry my weight in the middle. Last time I flew was about 4 years ago, we flew American Airlines for a work conference and the seat belt was tight, but do able. I will be so embarrassed if I need an extender.

Thanks for any advice.

There is a board on the DIS for weight loss called WISH. It's not a thread that I hang out on. I need something that speaks to my needs, and see too many threads that are too advanced over there. I would prefer that we try to build a support group in THIS thread. Y'all have been very supportive to me about my needs and how to get around at WDW (which I consider exercise). Miranda: you can do it!!! Think about all of the challenges you deal with everyday, but you get up, get going and actually think about running 10 miles!! Start small, maybe with a consistency challenge. Say, I will walk / run at my current level or more for at least 5 of 7 days per week and will set goals to do more as I can.

Yes everything on the Wish board seems advanced it's nice to know their are other people like me in the world lol

Forcing myself to drink Green Smoothies while everyone else in my house is skinny and eating junk food , or home cooked meals , it's hard to do with all the great smells in the house especially when I am the one cooking !!

Ps. Just had to put my dog up for adoption yesterday because even though I love him I couldn't keep him , I balled my eyes out and just wanted to eat cake , which I didn't do because there was no cake to eat !!

I've been a lurker on this thread. I've just created a poll on the DIS for those with concerns about themselves/family/friend & tight quarters on SDMT. Please take the poll if you're able & willing :goodvibes if you've already riden SDMT or keep an eye out if you have an upcoming trip & have been wondering/worrying... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3308633 Thanks, :wave2: Angeejoe

I am getting scared that I won't fit on this ride

I am Pooh Sized and big in the belly. I ask for a seatbelt extender EVERY time I fly. I find that the flight attendants are quite nice and discreet when giving them to you and you leave them on the seat when you leave. I think my biggest embarrassment would be if I had to purchase a second seat and was escorted off the plane if there was no futher room....

I guess that would be worse :(.

I have only flown 1 time in my adult life and did not need an extender. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

We have been walking a lot more, so maybe a few pounds will find their way to somewhere else!

I am worried about the walking. I was bed ridden for almost 2 years. We have been walking longer distances to get ready for all the walking we will do in Disney. In April I finally received a surgery that has changed my life. I'm ready to take on the world again! I'm so excited!

You can do it! But...just remember it's ok if you need to get an ECV for part or most of the trip. It is a process. You are up and moving and taking care of yourself. You are awesome!
