The ever popular "will Mission Space make me sick?" question....

We do the green side. My family is fine with it. No one has ever gotten dizzy or sick.

The motion doesn't bother me at all. It's the closeness. When the door closes and we're in that tight spot, I can barely catch my breath. I do it every trip for my family, but I think after last summer, I'm done. The older I get, the more claustrophobic I get.

I rode it once. Dont remember anything bad. Now as I am older I am more scared of a headache and the irrational part of me worries if my body can handle the Gs ( again irrational but heartattack/ stroke stuff)

Got a fast pass for mission space and I am planning on the orange mission. Admittedly, I am a little nervous due to the reputation it has. I have never gotten sick on any ride ever. Not a roller coaster, not a simulator, nothing. But for whatever reason, I am nervous about this one. Should I be? I have watched videos of it online and it reminded me a LITTLE of Seaworld's wild arctic ride. Opinions?
I would say that if you want to give it a try, I would do it very late in the day.

My freind and I are seasoned "thrill ride" junkies and decided to give this a try in Feb of 2015.
We tried the green version one day but found it to be "really wimpy" so a couple of days later we returned to Epcot and tried the orange version.
It made my buddy violently ill. So much so that he had to use the airsick bag in the "cockpit".
I fared better but I was feeling "off" the whole rest of the day.
Needless to say, our day in the park ended abruptly and we spent a quiet day back at our hotel.

I want to thank EVERYONE for the responses! As typical per this site - great information and advice. Our fast passes were for 10:30 am and I have decided to cancel those and get something else. Even the slightest chance of nausea and/or headache was not worth risking my entire day at EPCOT feeling bad. I think we are going to wait until later in the evening and possibly try the standby line. Thanks again, you folks are awesome!

I never ever had any trouble with motion sickness until I turned 30. Now I have to ride in the front seat of a car or get motion sickness. I'm still great with 98% of rides. The only one I had trouble with was the Transformers Ride at Universal. As a preventative measure though because I don't want to experience that feeling, I take 1 chewable Bonine with breakfast the day I'm going to ride rides and make sure I drink plenty of water ahead of time. It works great. I can ride Mission Space with no trouble still.

Also, I highly recommend ginger candy--either chewy or the hard candy--they instantly help if I feel motion sickness in the car. My friend started to feel nauseous after we rode Space Mountain twice. I gave him a ginger chew and he was instantly better.

Let me preface with everyone being different. Personally, tea cups is more likely to make me feel sick than Mission Space. However, with Mission Space, I always make an active effort to keep looking forward due to warnings. However, I have not had an incident on either ride, it's just a bit of nausea and dizziness.

I rode Orange for the first time on our last trip after riding Green for several times over the years.

I kept my eyes focused on the screen ahead of me. I did feel more G Force pressing me back into my seat, but I could not detect any hint of spinning. I didn't have any problems with dizziness or motion sickness. However, i'm not prone to any kind of motion sickness.

I did Orange (well, regular Mission Space, back before there were two options) and I am glad I did it. It was just an incredible experience. That said, I will NEVER do it again. It was hours before I even wanted to discuss eating. (I already get motion sick from spinning things, like the teacups, so I may not be the best source of information).

Not intended to be a thread takeover but how is the other mild side? I honestly did not realize orange was THAT intense. My original plan was to split my group so half went on the mild and half on the orange. BUT now I'm wondering if the mild side is maybe too intense for my 2 kids that wont to rollercoasters.

The mild side is very very mild. To the point of boring but kids would like it. You sit in a tight capsule with three others in a row. The console is put up close to you and you basically watch a video that is right in front of your face and push buttons when told to (they assign you a “role” on the shuttle). I don’t remember the capsule moving at all but I could be wrong. That being said I have not yet gone on the new version.

I've experienced both sides of the debate. (got off feeling *off* and have ridden it multiple times in one day) My best advice (like that above) take Bonine the day you are going to ride it. Make sure you have eaten (but not too recently) and focus on the screens! The one time I didn't was the time that I felt off. Also, once you get off, take your time in that hallway walking out. Focusing on the big line painted on the wall will help reorient you. Also make sure to get some water right after. Plan not to ride anything for the next hour. :) It's an experience not to be missed in my opinion, but you do need to be prepared if you are going to ride it and continue your day.

I do not like things that spin (my husband watched me turn green on the tea cups), but Mission Space didn't make me feel nauseous. It did, however, make me feel lightheaded, almost like I was going to pass out. I've previously experienced brown outs on high G roller coasters (Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion), so maybe that isn't so surprising. My best advice if someone experiences a similar reaction is to take deep slow breaths, focus on what is happened on the screen, and remember that the ride itself is less than 5 minutes. The cool air that blows on your face during the ride feels AMAZING, and if you're really worried, just make sure you've located the barf bags before the ride starts.

I don’t get sick on rides but i felt big weird during the launch on Orange the other day. I was fine after that. I def recommend looking forward as they recommend. I know some people in previous trips that didn’t and that killed them

If you do end up deciding to ride it, be sure to follow the instructions to keep your eyes open. People tend to close their eyes due to the strong sensation, but that can really lead to some pretty rotten motion sickness very quick. Your brain needs your eyes open for the visual input to steady you.

After hearing all the horror stories and listening to all the pre-flight warnings I admit I was nervous the first time that I rode it. But it was fine. I was even kind of underwhelmed and maybe a little disappointed that there wasn't more to it. It's fun though, I like it. No issues for me.

This is pretty much my experience too. I felt kind of "off" for a couple of hours after riding but not actual sickness. Still, what's the point of a ride that might make you feel crummy? Subtracting the concern over nausea it still wasn't a great experience. Try the green version or just give it a pass.
I agree. I didn't feel nauseous but definitely felt weird and off-kilter for a couple of hours. And I love roller coasters, inversions, etc. I did definitely felt claustrophobic on the ride, and was worried about getting sick the entire ride. Never again.

I'd say if you're really worried about it, skip it. Why potentially ruin the rest of your day?

I’ve had the same debate you did. Spinning rides never used to bother me. Two weeks ago I went on the tilt-a-whirl at Hersheypark with my daughter. I’ve been on it a dozen times at least and it’s never given me trouble. Not this last time! I didn’t get sick afterwards but I sure felt awful for a few hours. I think if I were to ever try the orange side of Mission Space, I’d make it my last ride at park close just in case.

I was very nervous when I rode Orange for the first time. I have had problems with ride simulators in the past (I'm looking at YOU Body Wars) so I was extra nervous. I have ridden it many times since. I will sometimes get a slight headache and sometimes feel a bit (as the PP just said) "off-kilter". It's not really *bad* but it's not really *good* either. I have started to wait for my family rather than ride it. I tried Green the last time and thought it was super boring. I would rather play the astronaut game at the exit than waste time on Green again.

Body Wars almost was my undoing at EPCOT! i never get sick on rides and halfway through that one I had to lean back against the seat and shut my eyes till it was over. Once we exited I laid on a bench for a good half hour!
That said - I never travel without taking Bonine. I take one the night before we fly and then the next morning before we travel or do an amusement park. Works wonders! I will definitely not be doing Mission Space though. It sounds dreadful. Between the spinning and the close quarters and the thought of somebody getting sick....nope!

I've never been sick on a ride either but this one did not make me feel well. For some reason I had really bad anxiety about going on and worrying I was going to be sick and ruin the day. We went on and I actually got claustrophobic and my boyfriend had to complete my portion of the ride since I was silently crying with my eyes closed just waiting for it to be over. I had the worst headache for about an hour and was a little queasy. I'm 99% sure I psyched myself out and that's why I ended up feeling the way I did. That's my cautionary tale of "Don't Freak Yourself Out Because You'll Make it Worse: a story about Mission Space." My boyfriend felt a little off for like 10 minutes after but he said it was the same as any other spinning type ride.
