The Empty Nesters Magical Mystery Tour *1/28* Link to New Girl's TR p141

Despite the fact that Jiko was just so-so, it sounds like a great evening with friends. The sunrise pictures are amazingly beautiful! Love them!

Of all the times that we've stayed at AKL, I've never eaten at Jiko. But it usually gets great reviews, sorry to hear that it was less-than-stellar that night.

Love those sunrise pictures of the savanna! :thumbsup2

I don't know what it is about giraffes, but I just love watching them. They're just such a unique and beautiful animal.

BAHAHAHA, that photo by the pool. Yes, um, different. :thumbsup2

AWWWWWWW, a photo dedicaton. You're too sweet. :flower3: OMG, and that one needs to be on a shirt.

OK... WHAT??? Sold out of ponchos???? I am in absolute shock. This is so unlike Disney to leave money on the table like that. Wow.

Sorry about the Jiko experience, it's so disappointing when you're looking forward to a great meal and it's just so-so. I agree though, in that instance you have to send it back or there's no use complaining. Joe abhors sending things back (even though he worked in kitchens for years and knows better), but for a $34 piece of chicken...yeah you send it back!

I love that pic of the t-shirt with the girl in the rain! I might have to keep my eye out for that one.

You are entirely correct -- I will NEVER tire of animal pictures! Especially gorgeous Disney animals!
(btw, next year we were supposed to be staying at an Epcot area resort, but your pictures are making me want to go back to AKL!!)
I'm the opposite when it comes to chicken in restaurants -- I'm so picky and I don't eat red meat or fish, so when I see a menu with a chicken item I classify that place as "I could eat here!" :rotfl2:
Jiko always sounds so nice but I'm nervous to try it. Some day maybe. I'm sorry that you guys didn't have a great visit that time. Denny definitely should have sent back his dish, it sounds very unappetizing!
Oh no! Rain and a poncho deficiency!
LOVE that shirt! So cute!

I never get tired of seeing animals from the AKV rooms. So amazing!

:lmao:Lol! Why Disney!? Why must we add so much pervision around the World!

Oh no! I"m a little worried now. We went to Jiko back in 2010 and loved it and had made plans to visit again for our next trip. DM only eats beef or chicken so reading about Denny's dish and your less than stellar dish makes me nervous.

The sunrise views!!! :faint:

Agh! The baby Zebra!:cloud9::cutie:

Aw man, not your stomach pain again!

Sounds like an absolutely lovely AK and AKL Day and a beautiful sunrise over the savannah.

We had a wonderful time doing all things AK! It was lovely to have such a nice relaxed day! :thumbsup2

Sorry Jiko was not a fantastic meal for all of you.

I was so excited to eat there and more than a little disappointed that Denny had a crappy meal and we just didn't walk away loving it.

Hooray for MK but Boo for the rain and ONLY one poncho.... :rolleyes1

The irony is I ALWAYS go home with extra ponchos. This was definitely a first for us! :rotfl:

Sorry the stomach issue was making a return visit.

Yeah - so was I! I wanted to be cured!

I read other trip reports that talked about food that was served at a signature restaurant that looked really bad plated. I am surprised that those entrees are served. And the badly plated food always tasted bad, too.

The appearance of the food really does count a lot. I thought maybe it was just me because it looked so unappealing, but in reality it just wasn't good. With so much competition of the food dollar the food served at all the TS and signature restaurants should be perfect.

I'm glad that you are coming back to the stomach pain. I was afraid you forgot about it. ;)

Oh No - Don't worry. I definitely did NOT forget about it! :(

We're worried about getting lots of rain during our upcoming trips in Sept and Oct. We've mostly traveled in the winter, when it seldom rains. I have a feeling we won't be so lucky this fall.

Upcoming trip(s)? As in multiple trips? NICE! This was my second trip in October and I have been there twice in September. I can honestly this was the only day in all those trips where it really rained. I love the weather in October. It's fabulous!

St. Augustine is so pretty.
The tour you took looked so nice. Pretty buildings.

It was a great tour! I absolutely loved touring Flagler. Just beautiful!

I know people who did a ghost tour in Savannah and they got their money back. LOL. They said it was so bad.

Really? See - that's the thing with ghost tours. Every one had one and I bet a lot of them are lame.

The decorations are cool at the restaurant.

That restaurant really knew how to do Halloween!

Looked like a nice lunch by the water.

Total bliss. The weather and scenery were so perfect! :good vibes

Ooh! Love Jambo House.

Me too! Such a contrast from the BWV, but in a really good way!

Beautiful sky pics from Epcot.

Thanks!
Nice pics around AKL.
Nice safari pics.

Thanks! Absolutely two of my favorite places to take pictures.

The plans for future trips look good.

Thanks! I'm excited for our October and February trips. I know I was just there in May but I just love that place!

Nemo pics came out good.

Thanks!

We ate at Jiko once and it was terrible. I might have to try it again.

Really? What did you guys have? I read some less than stellar reviews of Jiko lately. That's so not cool because it used to be such a great restaurant.

I am all caught up finally.

Yay! :thumbsup2 Welcome Back Stranger!

We have seen Nemo once, and FoTLK either 2 or 3 times. I made these the conditions of our 2009 trip. The other show I would like to see is Flights of Wonder. The chances of that, however, are "Yeah, right!"

Phew! I was getting worried that maybe you had never seen them and I KNEW that couldn't be right!

FOW is a cool show too! You should just go off and see it yourself next time! It's cute and the birds are really cool!

Oh, well, more EE for me!

And that is NEVER a bad thing!

Yes, I would rate Aladdin as the best Disney show. Visually awesome and hilarious!

:goodvibes

Cool! I can't wait to see it and I know I said this already - but I can't wait for your TR. Please put out the bat signal!

I knew you would be very excited about that! I'm so excited. Staying there for one night is a tease. I can't wait! :cool1:

That is awesome news!!! What nights? You can PM me (FB) if you want.

Well, we already talked and I am so bummed we are missing each other by a couple hours. THAT STINKS!

Have you considered a couple of days at the Dark Side???

Yes I have. In fact, after talking to you I am looking at it a little bit more seriously now! So thanks!

Never tried Jiko. The menu just never excites me. I'm sure I could find something to eat, and would probably enjoy it, just not enough there to motivate me. :confused3

Great savanna pics! Don't you just love watching how an animal that looks as awkward in body as a giraffe appears, can look so graceful! :thumbsup2 I love to watch them.

Super sunrise pics! A boat ride over to MK is always a great way to start the day. Hope the rain didn't hang around too long.

Even the pictures you take with your cell phone are great!

And in answering your question..."No" I am not tired of the view. I could definitely wake up to that every morning.

Upcoming trip(s)? As in multiple trips? NICE! This was my second trip in October and I have been there twice in September. I can honestly this was the only day in all those trips where it really rained. I love the weather in October. It's fabulous!
I had made reservations for two trips, one in Sept and one in Oct and were going to go on just one of them and cancel the other. Sept worked better with my work schedule and it was at the YC, which is great for going to the Food & Wine Festival. But the weather is hot. October has great weather, but it is a little bit harder to get away from work then. And we were booked at the WL on a bounce back, so we had a great rate. But my DH wanted to do both trips. So that is what we are doing. You got to blame the annual pass. I think it casts a spell on people. ;) It is our first time ever buying an AP, and probably our last time.

I got all distracted talking to you offline about your February plans that I didn't comment on your trip report...

Beautiful morning AK and Savannah pictures. Love the sunrise and the animals.

How disappointing about your meal at Jiko. Haven't been and probably won't anytime soon. Actually, we have never dined at a signature at Disney, except for Le Cellier before it went signature, so I don't think that counts. Boma is one of our top (may be my favorite) restaurants at Disney, so I don't see replacing that.

Denny's meal choice sounds good based on the description, sorry it didn't deliver. Like you, we rarely order chicken at a restaurant since it shows up on our plates at home so often.

Bummer that your morning has been met with rain so far. And it sounds like that issue may be trumped by another one soon. :(

Sounds like your February plans are coming together nicely. BWV and BCV..great!

I could never get enough pictures of that view. :thumbsup2 The baby zebra was out and about, how cool!

Sorry dinner wasn't a success, maybe the restaurant was having an off night. :confused3

I must not have had enough coffee yet because I totally missed the issue at the pool at first, second, fifth, sixth, OK a lot of glances. Took me awhile. :rotfl2:

I have never had an interest in Jiko. I can't eat spicy foods and my DH is not adventurous at all. It took 3 years to get him to try turkey burgers. We go to one restaurant for our anniversary every year and he doesn't even look at the menu. He orders the exact same thing every year.

I pack ponchos every year and then have to buy them because I always forget to take them to the parks with us. I lucked out my last 2 trips and had NO rain. That shirt was cute.

I think I am caught up again. Between issues with Flickr and my daughter getting married next week I have been forgetting to keep up.

Hi Guys! I've read all your comments but I won't be replying until much later this weekend. We are heading to the beach for the weekend. YAY! Of course, it's probably going to rain, but I'm sure we'll survive.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!!:thumbsup2

Love the giraffes and zebras!

I was :rotfl2: at the pool picture! Reminds me of something in Morocco - was that your's or Pat's picture?

Sounds a bit ominous with the stomach pain…I'm concerned. I hope we get some news on that in the next update!

Too bad the meal at Jiko wasn't the best. Such a nice evening though with your friends.

LOVE the sunrise pictures. That pink sky is always so pretty!

Enjoy your weekend at the beach!

Love the Giraffe and Zebra pics from your balcony, the baby zebra is little and cute, too bad he was hiding.:)

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!! :cool1::woohoo::yay::banana: That is AWESOME! Nothing better than having a new trip on the horizon!

That's really awesome! It's always so great when you make the reservation and then being able to get your ADRs is such a winner. You've got a great line up there. :thumbsup2
Thanks, I am looking forward to it! I was also this week able to snag 2 more: Dinners at Be Ore Guest and Ohana!!! :yay: :dance3: :cool1:

Have a fabulous time at the beach! :)

Bummer about Jiko. We've had three very delicious meals there. Denny should have definitely sent his back :(

That baby zebra is adorable. You're right, never too many animal pictures.
