The Earliest Ever….

This is what depresses me about this time of year. All the Christmas stuff is gone, and shelves are either picked over messes, or they've moved on to Valentine's. I get it. Stores don't want to be stuck with stuff so they clearance all the Christmas super early. But at the same time, I miss the days when I could walk into a store on December 23 and it still felt like Christmas was coming. The excitement was still there. Now it feels like it's all over by the first weekend in December.

Heck, even a lot of the big displays and activities (paid or free) around here are done by the weekend before Christmas. They don't stay up until Christmas day anymore, much less New Year's.

I think this is at least partly why I keep adding to my decorations at my house. I'm trying to find a way to keep the magic going, since it's hard to find out in public.

I've seen some Valentine's stuff out in the stores, but a full-on candy display like that at the beginning of December is crazy! 20 years ago I used to think it was crazy when I saw some Valentine's things out a few days before Christmas.

One of the Walmarts I go to always puts up a "lane" of their Christmas trees on display that you can walk through in amongst all of their other Christmas stuff. This year it was up before Halloween and the whole area had magical Christmas music playing. I was there yesterday and all the trees were taken down replaced with boxes of toys and other stuff, and the Christmas music was off. On December 8!!!

The Target near me hardly had any Christmas decor yesterday. Still plenty of wrapping paper and gift bags. About 5 or 6 boxed artificial trees but none on display. Everything else was consolidated into one aisle. The rest of the space had large to huge boxed toys.

That confirms it!!!! I really did some Valentines decor items out on shelfs in Marshalls yesterday.

Maybe these items were ordered before the big "tariff thing" was to go in affect., retailers don't want the storage rooms clogged up, therefore out on the shelves they go.

Merchandise for each holiday is out earlier and earlier - retailers/supermarkets have their delivery already in the back. As the current holiday sells and shelves are getting empty - they bring the stock out to fill the shelves.

I haven’t come across Valentine’s Day merch yet, but I’m in the camp of “it’s too early”. I did see some Halloween stuff on clearance a few days ago.

I found some leftover Halloween paper plates and napkins at Acme reduced to 90% off, or 20 cents per pack. So i bought some for next year. 🎃 👻
