(aka timeline of a gratuitous family transfer)

Well, some of you have noticed my posts in the last few months, and I figured I'd conclude the story for ya. :)

In March my husband decided he didn't want to be that anymore (which is fine, but he did it pretty rudely). For a bit of time I figured we would sell DVC b/c how could I afford trips anymore?

I posted that thought in a thread, and a few kind souls urged me to reconsider. He didn't even want to go to Disney anymore, and it had been me using the points for Princess trips with my cousin the last 3 years. It's MY thing, and I really appreciate those of you who reminded me of that. :goodvibes

A few years ago I'd tried to add my name to the deed (I was just an Associate), but I couldn't figure it out so I dropped it. Well now I had to figure out how to switch us.

@Dean helped out so much with his mention of a transfer company that wouldn't charge the earth to do a "gratuitous family transfer".

I reached out to them May 23, we got things moving June 7. June 29th they sent the new deed and form for him to have notarized etc, plus the form I needed to sign, and I needed to pay. Mailed those in after a bit of a delay on our parts for a bit, and July 24 they had the recorded deed and they were mailing it to Disney.

Today he got a call that they were working on it, and shortly after that I got my email with membership number. Called in, got my code, and linked it to the same MDE account I had.

Everything was correct, my planned Princess vacation was still there, and the dues auto-payment stuff is still set up. They've even already arranged for me to be sent my very own DVC card, because, for those who don't know, gratuitous family transfers of directly purchased points retain direct purchase rights. First card I've had!

Thank you to those who have been so sweet to me on the other threads, and who have reached out to me by message. I truly truly appreciate your kind words and support.

See ya at Princess. :teeth:

I'm glad it worked out. Hopefully this part of your life better will be even better without the anchor.

So happy to hear that everything worked out for you. I think taking trips will feel that much sweeter because you will know that without a doubt it is all yours. Unfortunate events you have had to go through, but you will come out stronger in the end.

Glad everything worked out for you! Sorry about the divorce, but at least you still have DVC :)

Glad you are fine! You might find yourself more at WDW than you were going before.

Well, without the airmiles from his job, I'm not sure about that. :) But I think they'll be better trips. Our vacations just got so difficult over the years. Stupid communications stuff, misunderstandings...pretty much all the same nonsense that was going on at home. If I'm honest, it's all the same stuff that was going on from wedding-planning, so really, I should have prepared for this. Sounds like a bunch of silly issues, but that's what kept us limping along for almost 15 years of marriage (next Friday is our anniversary), that on paper we should have been perfect, but in real life we weren't anywhere near.

But...my son is happier now. He gets true quality time with his dad instead of little snippets of time in between work and sleep, and he doesn't have to deal with the bickering. And he's in counseling to deal with just how rotten the way his dad chose to let us (at the same time) know he was leaving was.

So it'll be good.

And...the ex knows that I process stuff in writing, he knows that I process stuff on message boards. I don't say anything I wouldn't say straight to his face. So don't be worried about what I'm sharing here.

So glad to hear that the DVC transfer went through without problem. One fewer thing to worry about in this difficult time. Take care!

Life takes us through so many turns, divorce, illness, aging, to name just a few. Find your peace, your new rhythm, and enjoy life with your son! Keeping your DVC, icing on the cake! :welcome:Home!

Airmiles are available through credit cards. Drop on over to 'I love credit cards so much' and maybe someone can help you with airfare.

Yeah! Take care of yourself.

It’s a good feeling, isn’t it? To keep something constant, something that’s important to you.

Been there, done that. Keep on keeping on even keel and enjoy Y-O-U-R DVC.

I'm so happy you had something good come out of a difficult time - wishing you lots of wonderful memories as you start this new chapter, with a home that is yours, ALL yours :grouphug:
