The Downside of Digital

OK, so here's what you want to do.
Right-click on your desktop.
Select "Personalize" at the bottom.
Select "Screen Saver".
Under the "Screen saver" drop-down, select "Photos".
Click on "Settings".
Select "Use pictures and videos from:" then Browse to find the folder that has the Photos you want to use for the screen saver.
You can then select the theme you want to use for the slideshow, the speed, and Select to "Shuffle contents".

Then Click "Save" and "Apply". You can then hit "Preview" to see the results. When you're satisfied, hit "OK", and you should be good to go!

Let me know if that works for you or not!

It worked! I've got 2007 pictures scrolling now. It's fun to see pics of the kids when they were littlier on my computer.

Thanks very much. :woohoo:

I love digital pics but I worry about loosing them too. I put them on my pc, then onto a large external hard drive, and I take the best ones to be printed also. I consider the prints to be "back up copies" too since I could always scan them back in to a computer if I lost the digital copies.

I use Photoshop Elements to go through the pictures and fix them up and crop them to the right size. Then I put those in a file I call Ready to Print. I then know easily what file to take with me to Costco to print out.

So glad to have been of help! I love seeing my pictures on my computer screen (which is much larger & prettier than any 4x6 photo album picture!)

Thank you! I didn't know how to do that either. Now i can see my pictures whenever I want. The kids will be happy to see this on the computer when they get home. Now can I have directions on how to make a movie type thing out of my pictures...lol... I have been working on it the last few days but its not easy.
Glad to be of service! I have no idea about the movie thing. That's something I haven't gotten into (at least *yet*).

One thing I haven't heard people mention on this thread is backing up your pictures! It's great to download them from the memory card to the computer but make sure to back them up to another source such as an external hard drive, CDs or DVDs. In the event of a computer crash or malfunction you don't want all your memories trapped on the machine.

Enjoy your pictures!
I agree! Backing up pictures is SO VERY VERY important! I usually recommend at least 2 backups. One on CD or DVD that you leave at work or someplace (just in case, heaven forbid, something happens to your house) and another in whatever media if something happens to your computer.

iPads actually are a marvelous medium for backing up pictures. If you get the camera connectors, you can back them up directly from your camera or memory card, full size, and also use it as a very cool means to show the pictures off to friends & family!

Thank you so much for this my kids are actually looking at the pictures on the save screen now. Its so funny normally I can't even get them to look at them when I download them. Now I am finding them sitting in the living room just watching the pictures go by.

I think that digital photography is light years beyond film photography. I get a chance to retake that special moment if it didn't come out just right, instead of finding out a week later that the sun was glaring just right and washed out of all of my subjects' faces.

The real catch to managing digital photos is to have a good program to organize them on your computer/external hard drive. I love love LOVE Creative Memories' Memory Manager program. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a consultant for Creative Memories, but this software is the reason I became a consultant :lovestruc. For $40 you get a program that will find all of your pictures on your computer and organize them for you. You can sort them into Powersort boxes (like virtual shoe boxes!). You can also filter them by timeline based on the date stamp on the digital file. When you load your pictures directly from your memory card, phone, scanner or camera it even includes all of the digital information stored in the photo about which camera the photo was taken with, including the camera settings. Honestly, it's more info than I need as an amateur photographer, but if I ever decided to do this professionally I know it would come in handy.

Memory Manager also lets you correct, crop, edit and clone your photos. It includes red eye reduction, and you can even make those beautiful photos that are in black and white with only one element colored in (picture a bride on her wedding day in black and white with only her red rose bouquet). You can include a story about the photo, and tag people in the photo to make your photos even easier to find. It's much easier to find a photo in Memory manager than in a shoe box. Trust me, I know :guilty:. Plus it keeps track of which photos you have printed, and which you haven't, and it will automatically back them up for you. If you chose not to do it automatically it will remind you. Awesome! :wizard:

Anyway, I've rambled on quite enough. If you don't have photo managing software that you love you should check it out. If you have questions about the software, you can check out the Creative Memories website and find a consultant near you, or drop me a PM anytime. Don't let your digital photos overwhelm you! :scared1:

I have a different problem. I have hundreds of print photo's that I want to turn into digital but I don't have the time to scan them all. I really need some kind of scanner with a feed option.:confused3
