Went to TJ Maxx yesterday and let DD buy a pom-pom scarf with her own money. It was only like $4. Well, she's been wearing it around the house and the dog is completely fixated on the scarf. She's been stalking DD non-stop, wanting to get hold of that stupid scarf! :dog2:

I looked at the tag and it turns out the scarf is rabbit fur. :scared1: I'm normally against wearing fur (personally), but I can't really take the scarf off of her now.

I wonder if the dog is attracted to the fur? :confused3 I've never seen her act like that before, except when it comes to food.

Probably, because every time my kitten gets into my closet she hunts and then attacks a scarf I have made of rabbit fur. :) I had to hide it.

How funny! DD just said she tried to get the cat interested in it, but she couldn't care less. Lazy cat! The dog is more of a hunter than she is!

We had a dog that used to chase my brother's slippers that were lined with rabbit fur. But then my brother would wear them to aggrivate the dog.:rotfl2:

I hate to be the one to bring up the negative, but PLEASE be careful...a while back a little girl was strangled accidentally when her dog grabbed onto her scarf.

These didn't have bur, nut my mom's dog would chase my daughter's feet when she wore those little socks w/the pom-poms on the back. We had to cut them off a few times.

Thanks for posting that! The scarf is really short, so I'll have her either not wrap it around her neck at all, or wrap it completely so it's like a necklace with no loose ends to grab.

So far, the dog is being good and just following her around, begging. She hasn't tried to grab the scarf, but I'll talk to DD about it.

Out of curiosity. Has the dog shown interest in the scarf when your daughter isn't wearing it?

My dogs think I'm the boogey man when I put on my hunting hat and they wanna pull the hat off my head. But when the hat is just laying on the floor they could care less. :confused3

One of my dogs used to stalk DD9 when she would wear a certain sweater.. it was all fuzzy and stuff.. I think he thought she was a big girl dog.. :lmao: :lmao: She finally had to retire that sweater cause he wouldnt leave her alone.. :rotfl2:

Poor rabbit. I had no idea that TJMAX sold fur items, theres another place off my list of places to shop.

Yes, she was trying to get at it when my DD laid it on the couch beside me. I told her to "BACK OFF!" and she looked so sad. :rotfl:

I know. :guilty: I've had this quandary before. I'm against wearing fur, but my DD has wanted a fur jacket or scarf for the longest time. I've always put my foot down, and she has settled for faux fur. Now that she's getting older, though (11), I think the best I can do is explain my reasonings and let her make her own decision. I still won't buy one for her, but if she comes up with her own money, I guess I'll live with it.

I was reading on here a while back, someone was saying you even have to watch buying faux fur because it can possibly have dog fur in it! :scared1:

I understand that a lot of people do not wear fur, but do you avoid leather too? And shops that sell leather items? I can't imagine how many stores carry leather gloves this time of year. I just think that would take a lot of stores off your list.

Not flaming at all (although I do realize that this topic can stir up emotions), I'm really just curious.

I know you're directing this to Sherri, but it's a gray area for me. I don't have as much of a problem with leather because they're more likely to use the whole animal for meat and such. If I had a problem with meat, then I'd have a problem with leather.

I think it would be really hard to avoid stores that sell leather!

You might have to snip the pom-poms off & sacrifice them to the dog. :teeth: Then put a fake replacement pom-poms on DD's scarf.

I, too remember the dog/scarf strangling story. It happened so quickly. The dog probably didn't realize what he was doing as it was a beloved, family dog. He grabbed the scarf, it wrapped & tangled is such a way the girl couldn't unknot it to free herself. :(

What kind of dog do you have?:rotfl2:

I heard that before also about the faux fur and the dog fur connection, pretty sick if you ask me.
When my sister and I were shopping a couple black Fridays ago in Center City Philadlphia, we saw protesters outside of Eddie Bauer. They were protesting fur hoods. My sister says to me, "Oh look you found your people".
Not that I would ever protest myself, but I thought it was kind of funny the way she said it and kind of true.
I agree with what you said about your dd and her being at an age where she can decide.

Yes, my question was more for Sherri. Sorry - I should have put that in my post. Yeah, I can't imagine avoiding stores that sell leather...I'd imagine that even the grocery store might sell knives in leather pouches, for example. I guess my real question is whether people who feel strongly about fur have the same feeling about leather, and if not I'm wondering the reasoning for their decision. Thanks so much for responding!
