The Disney Cruise App on board...did you use it/like it?

I should mention that as the 3 of us would text each other at random times. We did not always get those text when we sent them.
Make a rule that a person must respond when you receive a text even with just a single letter so you know a person got it. That should help.

Just off the Dream today (July 18th). We've always found the app great for seeing activities/times and menus for the entire cruise rather than waiting for each day's Navigator. The messaging has improved over time but it still spotty. Haven't used a wave phone since the app came out.

The app also does not work while you are in the terminal. Once you get on the ship (while ship is still at the port), connect to the network.

I don't think this is accurate. The last 2 cruises I've connected to the ship's wifi waiting in the terminal to board (you do have to connect to DCL-Guest) and been able to go through the activities and movies for the week (favoriting things), pick out which mixology to sign up for, and decide what I'm going to order for dinner the first night.

We were on the Fantasy at the end of May and while the app worked great for my teens with iphones, it did not work great at all for mine or my husband's android. We had a horrible time getting on and only figured it out because others were having the same issue at our meet and greet and they showed us fellow android users what they had learned. Well this worked great UNTIL our free data package was gone then we were continuously kicked off the texting feature of the app. We visited guest services as well as the "tech" guy near the future cruise desk several times to only be told that it wasn't working well with some android phones. I bought the cheapest internet package just to see if it would work since it did with the free 50mb and it worked perfectly. Since we did not wish to carry wave phones but wanted to stay in touch with our teens, I bought internet packages in small increments to get us through the week. I mentioned this at length on our comment card so hopefully it will be addressed. Other than that, it was great for using the navigator and menu features and the chat was great when it was working.

I've tried it for a few days and prefer the hard copy of the Navigator. My justification is I go on vacations to unplug and I don't want to be carrying around my phone, second is I don't want to risk leaving my phone on a lounge chair if I decide to jump in the pool. I actually like to read the Navigator which provides other information in addition to the daily activities. It's also portable which I can fold in put in my pocket and if I loose it or it gets wet I can always easily get another one. Finally I also keep the Navigators for all my past cruises as a reminder of what I did that day.

Does anyone know if you can text from wave phones to the app? No smartphone for DS. I can't stand texting on the wave phones and would prefer to use my Android with the app.

I've used it but less and less each cruise. I'm not a phone person so I tend to lock my phone in the safe, but when in the room I may look at the app to see if it has more information than I can garner from the Navigator. I prefer the paper Navigator to the app, and since I usually only do 1-3 things per day, it's easy to keep track of that without the app. We haven't found the texting to be particularly reliable. Sometimes I wouldn't get the text from DW (or other members of the family) for an hour or more after they'd sent it. We've found "old-fashioned" white boards to be more reliable, leaving notes for family members on it rather than relying on the app. But then we also don't feel the need of being in constant touch throughout the day. We note on the white board where we are if someone needs us, but otherwise we don't get together until the evening show (we always do second seating for dinner).

I used it. And I liked it. It was great for "favouriting" the activities / events we wanted to attend (although I wish there was a better way to display all favourited activities). It was also good for checking the menus.

Used it in February, wasn't impressed. The texting feature is difficult to set up and once set up lost everything the next day. We just gave up on that. I did occasionally use it to look at the menu which worked OK.
Do you think it was not working correctly? What do you have to set up?
