The DIS Universal Podcast team does not approve of "the Dark Side"

I sent in a question to the Dis Universal Podcast team and referred to Universal Orlando as "The Dark Side". I thought it was an affectionate nickname, but turns out I was wrong! They said they have to get people to stop calling it that. Mea Culpa, I won't do it again!

I also inadvertently inspired the creation of the phrase "ab sac", since I guess fanny pack is also unacceptable. Wow, I will be more careful with my verbiage in the future...

They said they have to get people to stop calling it that.

Why do they think they have to do this? They do podcasts; they aren't the kings of the world.

Dark Side is funny to many people. Just because they, whoever they might be (I don't listen to podcasts, feeling that they are an immense waste of time...you want to impart info? WRITE IT.), don't like it doesn't mean others don't.

I also inadvertently inspired the creation of the phrase "ab sac", since I guess fanny pack is also unacceptable.

That sounds worse. Far worse.

Waist pack is an old, perfectly, fine word for it. Ab sac? Shudder.

I like the term Darkside..........

Yes fanny pack is funny to young kids of a certain age over here........as my old tag refers to

Thanks, Everyone! I was feeling pretty foolish for even asking them a question, so I really appreciate verification I wasn't being negative when I said we were going "to the Dark Side"...

I've never called it the Darkside.
I definitely saw it as a derogatory term used by WDW lovers (and US/IOA dislikers).

Waist pack, please. Ab sac? Shudder.

Definitely not considered a negative term from us over here...........:thumbsup2 We like it..........::yes::

I always saw the Dark Side as a fun, tongue-in-cheek term. I mentioned it when talking about Universal to my DD the other day and she was so confused lol. I tried explaining (including references about "The Motherland" and she just rolled her eyes and walked away, shaking her head over how wacky her mother is.

I'm VERY excited about our trip to "The Dark Side" and certainly don't mean it in any derogatory way.

Universal IS the "Darkside", these are the "disBoards", not the "uniBoards"!!!!! BTW, I HATE HARRY POTTER!! RmeDad Out!

I listen to the Podcast and frequently find it entertaining (although I thought it was better in the 1.0 incarnation). I'm not sure if your "Darkside" comment was handled well by the hosts. As others have said, the term "Darkside" may have started out as a slam against the Universal, the community especially here on the Disboards has decided to wear it as a badge of honor like so many other term in the english language. If they wanted to take on the "Darkside" issue, they should have answered your question, then referenced the "Darkside" as it relates to the forums and not your question individually.

I agree that the term is kinda funny... I'm not sure what the Podcasters objected to (I don't listen to it, they're way too long-winded), but my problem with the term is that it's only used here on the Disboards. Universal planning is complicated enough and has plenty of required terms already (Express Pass, Early Entry, etc.), I don't see the need to confuse newbie people even more by making up even more terms...

the "term" has been around a long time.

for me, planning for the Darkside is a piece of cake.
planning for the motherland, is a different story.

i booked my motherland portion of my fall trip early this year.
booked the adr's 180 days out.
just hope i don't change my mind on them as some restaurants are hard to get into now that free dining has been announced.
now all i have to do is the stressing for the fp+ days and times once i am 60 days out.

i go through this every year.
