So...anybody know a good place to stay around DC...nice but affordable...preferably near a METRO station?

Considering going around the week of April 18th. DS15 is a real History buff and has been wanting to tour the Museums and see the sites.

Thanks in advance.

I have stayed in DC three times. The first place was similar to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. There was plenty of wildlife but it was inside the room instead of outside and they were large roaches. I would not recommend that place. The second place was a Comfort in on the west side of DC near the Pentagon. I do not think that there was a Metro near there though. The last place was a Hampton Inn Just off of 495 near Largo(?)(close to FedEx Field. The last two were pretty nice. We have in the past just parked at Union Station and taken the Metro from there. Fairly easy, but parking is somewhat expensive.

I am by far not an expert. I am sure there are other Dads with more experience. I would like to hear of some other places. We are stopping in DC on our way to the Outer Banks in June.

Well considering I actually pay my taxes...and don't harbor any Communist or Progressive views...I might not be welcomed by the current occupants.:lmao:

Go to Google and search bidding for travel. It is a forum where people post what they typed into Priceline's name your own price. We used it last Christmas and only paid $56 a night for a place in Arrlington that was by a Metro station but I cannot remember the name but it was 4 star.

Now what would be funny if one of your co-workers happened to be walking by and saw you recording Chuck preforming.

If it were the guys, then no problem. Problem is all those women I work with just LIVE to tattle-tale. I really don't get this. I get onto my 8,5 dds about this. Is it a life long girl thing? Of course, I probably shouldn't antagonize them, but I just can't help myself. So, when I see them tattling, I sing :rolleyes1

Tattle-tale, tattle-tale,
hang your britches on a nail.

Of course, that just gets me in more trouble. What is the deal?:headache:

OMG it' s starting to stick again, now they say 6-8 inches total by sat morn. With all the snow this year I'm convinced we are in SNOWMAGADDON!:scared1:

Am I the only Dis dad not getting snow?

Nope---we don't have any in South Georgia...ahh, too bad:lmao:

hey fed, police women of broward cty has been on today on tlc., any of your trainees? nothing better than a women at the firing range!!!

Not any of my trainees, but I've worked with the Broward County Firearms instructors a good bit. As a matter of fact, a couple of years ago the International Law Enforcement Games were at Disney....we did our shooting at the Orange County Sheriff's Office Range, but I got a silver medal behind one of their guys--by two freaking points:confused3:confused3--on the tactical arms course...

We actually took pictures at the range last Friday during quals---first time we've done that in a while...

Hey Fed, If you are in DC between mid March and the begining of May and have a free day let me know. I will take you out for some striper fishing in North East Maryland.

I had to put on a jacket this morning....oh the Humanity:lmao::lmao:
I have a lot of sympathy for you! I also have about another foot of snow waiting for me and it's still coming down pretty good. Well, at least I had a good excuse for a vacation day!

Our Navy son, who is stationed at Andrews AFB, now lives in Largo but we haven't stayed there yet. We did stay near the Pentagon once and the place was OK but I can't remember what it was......probably a Comfort Inn. It had a parking garage underneath, I remember that, and I think there was a McDonalds next door. Try tripadvisor.com, that's what I do. I've found their reviews to be pretty accurate. Your son will enjoy DC. Most of the stuff is free but there is a lot of walking, so be prepared. It's probably worth while to pay for the shuttle to get around.

Am I the only Dis dad not getting snow? today a nice and sunny 59 degrees sure is cold for this time of the year. I will say just watching the blanket of snow that has poured down on you guys this winter makes me love the south all the more at least Walt put his Dream so that whenever you guys go NO SNOW.We did have a chance of snow of few weeks ago none came but the town still shut down. Who Dat.

No snow here in sunny south florida either  (sorry!)

I grew up in Broward county. I've seen that show a couple of times and it's pretty scary/sad when I've seen a bust/sting/etc and said, "oh hey, that's near the neighborhood I grew up in!"

This made me think of something...right before Christmas (Dec 19th actually, I know this because it was DS's birthday), we had a SWAT (local) call out directly across the street from our house..

Without going details, it ended badly:sad2: And I live in a nice neighborhood--it only takes one headcase...:headache:

We do day trips to DC all the time.

Like Kevin mentioned, there's a Hampton Inn and a Holiday Inn Express (both with free breakfast! :thumbsup2) in Largo, MD and less than a mile from a Metro station. I'm guessing you would probably want to stay on the VA side, though, because then you could avoid having to drive around DC on the Beltway.

There are a ton of hotels in Arlington and Tysons Corner in VA--just about every chain imaginable. The hotel websites will usually tell you what Metro station they are nearest to. Both towns are very CROWDED and traffic can be an issue. Tysons Corner is a couple of miles away from the Vienna Metro station, but a lot of the hotels offer a free shuttle to/from the station--the websites will tell you.

You may want to drive to the station yourself. Parking is free at the Metro stations on weekends. :thumbsup2 All of the stations can be found on Google Earth.

One thing you could do in VA is swing by Dulles Airport as well--there is a wing of the National Air & Space Museum located next door that houses some cool planes like the Concorde, SR-71 Blackbird and the Space Shuttle.

Anyway, I don't want to take up too much space here. Sounds like Fed can help you out, and if you want to PM me for other ideas, I'd be glad to help out too.
