The DIS Book Club Discussion Group: Round 7 - Juliet

I'm really enjoying the book and the interwoven past and present stories. I haven't gotten as far as I had hoped yet, but I'm definitely enjoying it. :)

I finished before we were supposed to start. (Yeah...such an overachiever sometimes.... ) Loved the book...waiting for discussion! :goodvibes

I'm intrigued by the relationship between the Juliet and her sister. All of the twins I know seem to work well as a unit (so to speak) -- they know each other well, work together well, etc. I've never seen two twins that were so competitive -- especially to have a younger (wasn't Janice younger? Or am I mis-remembering that) sibling so pushy and demanding while the older is so passive. (I believe I'm still within the realm of the first part of the book. Smack me if I'm wrong!)

I'm just getting started, but as the mother of twins, let me just say that twins come in all kinds. While mine did get along well most of the time, the older one (by 5 minutes) was definitely the more "pushy" of the two.

I received a library notification on Saturday that my book was due tomorrow and I was unable to renew it (likely someone placed a hold) so I finished the remainder of the book this evening. I have to say that, although it was slow in the beginning, I really enjoyed this book! :thumbsup2
I am really looking forward to our discussions. :)

I totally agree, the book seems to dramatize the night and day differences between the girls and I found it very interesting. I definitely came to dislike Janice and almost pity Juliet. (Almost) ;)

I have to agree about the twins. Janice got right under my skin early on in the novel. I also felt badly for Juliet. I don't understand why she allows her sister to treat her that way. What do you guys think?

I just finished the book. I really liked it. I'm anxious to see what everyone else thinks.

I am glad that you liked it!! I was so pumped to read this book when it first came out, but didn't pick it up until recently. I'm having trouble getting through the beginning. I feel like it is so slow. I am hoping it picks up soon.

It's hard for a lot of us to imagine allowing someone to treat us that way, but family dynamics can be complicated. ;) When one sibling gets positive reactions and extra attention, the other sibling can start believing that's deserved. Maybe that's why she allowed that sort of treatment, or maybe she thought it would be pointless to battle Janice's behavior most of the time.

I'm still enjoying the book, although I've been short on reading time lately.

I can't wait until you guys finish! I'm afraid to talk about it for fear that I will say something that will expose something that you haven't read yet. I'm a terrible secret keeper - I'm honest to a fault. So, I shall bide my time...:goodvibes

My copy finally came in at the library. I just snuck out on a quick break to pick it up.

I'd better get going quick before Jenni bursts. :) Seriously, I'm starting on it at lunch and it sounds like a good read.

I read as much as I could while on vacation, and still am only 52% of the way through it according to my Kindle. Hubby will be out of town next week, so maybe I'll get some more reading done then. Right now, real life (laundry, etc.) is getting in my way!

Isn't it irritating when life gets in the way of reading?! Mine is lately too...

I finished the book last week. I enjoyed it much more that I thought I would. It does get more action-oriented towards the last half.

I didn't understand the treatment either -- and that goes both ways. I don't understand a person treating someone they are related to like that, nor do I understand anyone just taking that kind of behavior without retaliation. Juliet is so incredibly passive, especially to be the main character. Looking back, it's hard to see that she actually went to Italy without someone having to hold her hand all the way there.

Too extreme?

I just finished the book last night. As a previous poster mentioned, the book definitely picked up in the second half. I found it hard to get through the first half, but overall really enjoyed it and am excited to participate in the discussion. :thumbsup2

Jump into the discussion, everybody! Most should have or about to finish the book now. What were your thoughts? Favorite scene? character? Confused about something? Chat away!

Ugh...I'm so far behind! I'm only 47% in, according to my Kindle readout. Somehow reading time has become more scarce than ever lately... :sad2:

If it's any consolation, you're just about to the point where things start to really pick up and get interesting and you'll want to read faster. :goodvibes

Actually, I've been wanting very much to read anyway, and now that I got a bit further, I'm dying to find out what happens next. Time just hasn't been on my side lately...
