This is definitely a messy project. The destruction has started. The floor in the mud area, laundry room and bathroom has been ripped out and in the process of being replaced. The sofits and ceiling is coming down. Some of the cabinets are down and there is DUST everywhere. But I don't mind. I am going to let the 'current' dust protect the furniture from the future dust. :lmao:

I am excited for you Dawn! Can't wait to see the finished pictures!

I can't either. ;) I ordered the new kitchen set yesterday after lots of paralysis by analysis. We decided to go with Saloom Furniture. Its like Canadel but it is maple instead of birch and it has more contemporary choices for the base, chairs, etc. You can chose the chairs, base, color, table shape, size, etc and they customize it. I got a great deal locally, even after calling large discounters out of state. It will be ready in 3 weeks. I don't think the kitchen will.

The other difficult part was picking out the granite. I want to go neutral but I want some "movement" in the granite. After visiting five granite lots, we picked Sahara Beige which has cream, beige, taupe, bronze, etc. It looks like sand on the beach that the water has washed upon. Of course, if we moved, the house had existing granite, I wouldn't have scrutinized the granite. I would have said, "oh granite, that's nice". :rotfl:

My kitchen renovation is currently on day 8. I lost my sense of humor about 3 days ago. :rotfl: The granite is being installed today. We have yet to find a decent fridge. The cabinet over the fridge is the wrong size and needs to be exchanged. The dining room still needs painted, the lighting and new fan need to be installed and all the trimwork plus the backsplash need to be done.

Dh is doing nearly all of it himself. It's a huge improvement over what we had, and I like it all as it goes in, but the mess is wearing me out!

Good luck Dawn! I hope yours goes more quickly!

Week 7 and almost done here. Just waiting on some trim for under one cabinet. Some bumps along the way but all in all not the horror stories we heard about!
Good luck!

Day 8!!!??? That is just the beginning! I packed up the kitchen 8 days ago. If that is all that needs to be done by day 8, your DH is doing great.

WEEK 7? :scared1: Oh dear Lord, I would lose my mind!

It helps to have a very small kitchen. Dh has done pretty much nothing but kitchen for the last 8 days. He had one friend help him do drywall, and he hired a guy to install cabinets. Poor guy has worked his behind off! He is currently threatening to paint the fridge instead of buying a new one. :lmao:

We have a large kitchen with DH doing it over the summer (to us) holidays. We started ripping out old kitchen just before Christmas, and removed the debris before new year. There was a lot of work re-routing plumbing for an island bench & plumbed coffee machine etc

Lots of BBQ + combi-microwave / oven. Emergency measures to keep the coffee machine operating as caffeine detox HURTS.

Took us close to 2 months for granite bench-tops to be installed, especially as the island bench was one piece of granite & close to thier maximum size to move etc, kitchen equipment to be installed etc.

But back to work now so splashbacks etc have to wait until DH gets time ???

I'm jealous. My kitchen needs a serious overhaul but it has to wait. Can't wait to see your finished project.

I'm glad I found your thread here. Please keep posting the improvements. :)

Oooo...love to see kitchen renovations!

We are relocating and just put our house on the market on Friday. Only been here for a few years and the whole time we have really needed a new kitchen. I wish I had taken a before picture, but I avoided pictures of this kitchen all together - it was that horrid. This past week DH has been doing a total "refreshment" of the kitchen, rather than refurbishment. We just have not been able to sink a lot of money into the kitchen, but he did paint the cabinets (what a mess), switched out light fixtures, tomorrow he is painting the walls and installing the new countertop (laminate). Oh, and we are having new appliances delivered at some point. Lots to do - but the next owners of this house will have a nicer, fresher kitchen.

Can't WAIT to see the outcome of your renovation...and congrats!!!

My DF just did this for a guy who was looking to improve the look of his cabinets to sell his house, but didnt' have alot of money to sink into new cabinets....

If you go onto facebook and look up the company "SageMark Building & Design" we have a "in progress" photo album, and I will post the finished cabinets shortly of the ones he just finished...

I love before and afters..even better when you get a good deal!
Good luck Dawn!

We love our carpenter. We have known him for YEARS! He coached just about all of our kids in baseball at one time or another. He did an addition for us 16 years ago that expanded he kitchen and everything blended perfectly. I told him last spring that if we didn't move, to pencil us in and he did. He is very reasonable and he is a perfectionist.

Ugh, what a mess remodels are! So glad the kitchen remodel is behind us!!! Can't wait to see the finished product!

I thought everything was going well. More demo today. The carpenters got out the blue print for the cabinet layout and the list so we could figure out where to put the lights in the coffered ceiling. We are having a coffered ceiling to ease the transition into the existing ceiling so we don't have to paint the entire downstairs again. We had the cabinet guy come out three times. The last time with the carpenters and went over every detail. He measured wrong and now we have an area that is extending out beyond the kitchen into the hall! :scared1::scared1: Of course they are closed today but I left him a message and he will have to order the replacement cabinets stat! Good thing we haven't taken delivery yet. Now I think we are in for another three weeks unless he can get them asap!
