Ok DDAs... opinions please


When do I tell Kyle about our trip? My original plan (without giving it any thought really) was just to pack for him and go.... and he could figure it out whenever. That would be a lot of fun

But part of me wants to tell him a bit sooner so he can be excited with me! I definitely will wait until a little closer. His med school graduation ceremony (so that they don't have to sit through the big undergrad one at UC) is May 28th; I don't think I'd tell him before that. But even that is so far away!

What do you think? And how should I tell him?

Nick finished his antibiotic Sunday -

which of course means Julia got sicker and sicker as the day went on yesterday - she woke up this morning with a very sore throat - guess who isn't going to school and has to get a strep test today

UGH!! Is it summer yet?!?

We had Carli's tonsils out 2 years ago, and she hasn't had a sore throat, strep, or viral infections since (knock on wood)!!! Both of the kids have had PE tubes Kyle is on his 5th set, and Carli is on her 6th!!! I really think that Carli has some permanent damage to her ears because she has a tendency to talk really LOUD!! We have had her tested but it was inconclusive.

They take after their dad he had tubes in until he was 12, and then this past fall he had to have tubes put in again. He has a severe hearing loss from all of his ear infections!!! I teased him when he had to have the tubes put in and asked him what flavor gas he was going to request, did he want me to go back w/ him until he fell asleep, and what kind of toy was he going to pick out!!!! Needless to say he didn't find it all that funny !!!!

I just want the sun to shine and it to be above 60, is that too much to ask??? Come on spring or summer !!!

According to your ticker you are going sometime in early June. I went looking for the trip thread, but your trip is not in there. If I recall correctly that is intentional.

So I would wait as long as possible. But I wouldn't wait until the last minute. You want to give him a chance to get super excited about the trip as well.

Maybe create a scavenger hunt or something to reveal exactly what you are doing. Or create a daily clue or something to kind of clue him in as to where you are going and what you are doing. Perhaps you could reveal everything that is happening the day of his graduation or the day after.

I know some people have made Disney themed fortunes and put them in fortune cookies.

Have a big Disney themed dinner, with your favorite foods or something to celebrate once he knows. I think whatever you do you should make it Disney themed and fun to increase your anticipation for your trip.

I'll try and see if I can come up with anything else.

Get Well Soon Julia !!!!

our husbands will get along great - Steve had tubes during his childhood and also has hearing loss

I always think Julia has hearing loss too - she gets annual tests b/c of Steve and she actually has supersonic hearing!! Just not when I try to get her attention or tell her to do something

So I have a theory on why she talks loud - Julia does too - you probably don't realize this b/c I don't but in our house we have compensated for my DH's hearing loss - we listen to the TV louder and we talk louder - I would also imagine that Kyle relies heavily on his listening and she picks up on that as well and as a result - she talks louder - I have nothing scientific to base this on - just a mom trying to figure out why she has perfect hearing but can tune out anything and talks loud

what doctor do you go to - I would insist on permanent tubes

we go to Dr. Willging at Children's - I am sure you go to the same practice - I think they are the only peds practice in town

Perhaps they did bring the warm and weather with them as it is supposed to be 70 on Thursday in Cincinnati. Perhaps not the sunny part just the warm. As it is supposed to also be rainy.

I like your theory, I do generally think our house tends to be loud. I also agree that she has mastered the art of ignoring !!! When Amy gets back she has to give her opinion on whether she thinks we are a LOUD family or not!!

I can see it now at Alyssa's party Carli and Julia will be screaming across the room to each other and we will all get kicked out and never be invited to their parties again!!! I think those 2 are going to get along very well!!! If Nick will talk about Mickey Mouse or Toy Story to Kyle they should get along really good too!!!

We go to Dr. Meyer, he is in the same practice. OK I am such a geek to admit this but whenever I call their office to make an appointment and they say you have reached the Dept. of Otarlaryngology, it makes me want to yodel o-tar-lar-yn-gol-ogy!!! Ok I'm am a DORK!!!!

Can they do permanent tubes at this age???

Wow...I haven't been that in a long time. I didn't know it was possible to drink that much Pepto Bismol in such a short time.

I am so ready for the May trip!!

Also, I heard from Poly Concierge regarding our Dec. trip. I am sooo excited

We have seen Dr Meyer - he is very nice - we love Dr willging - Julia really likes him - she has only had tubes once - Nick has never had them but we still get to go see Dr. Willging yearly

My niece is six - and after having tubes put in 4 times - they finally put permanent tubes in - so I do know they can be done at this age - they aren't really permanent - I think they eventually come out - but if they don't - they will have to have them removed - but she weighed the options of multiple surgeries over 2 and went that route -

Julia was 11 months old when she got her tubes and one fell out 18 months later and the other one just fell out - so we have been really lucky

Amy has already told me that our girls will get along perfectly!! and Nick LOVES Toy Story and Mickey - so we should have no problems!!!

I am going to agree with Kate here...my girls both have no problems hearing(except when they don't want to go to bed, pick up, that kind of stuff) but they talk loud to compensate for Dad's ADD.....they know to talk loud and make sure they have eye contact with him. Now we have great grandparents they have to talk loud around......and almost yell at over the LOUD television.
