Elin sounds like you had a great day!

Lindsay thanks for the link, I will look into it when I return.

Jen

I'm not sure if I will have time to get back on, so talk to you all in a few days! We will be back late Wednesday night.

Elin - I hope the meds work PDQ for Kristin.

Heidi - :wizard: that John feels better.

Jen - so sorry about your grandpa. :grouphug:

Can someone explain to me exactly what this Cricut thing does?

Janet - Safe travels. Have a FABULOUS time!

Ok. I'm finally ready to show some pictures.

Here's the kids carving pumpkins:

Vicki - do you have a Michael's?

I just noticed in their circular from today's paper that they have the Cricut Complete Starter Set that Stephanie mentioned for $199.99. (Regularly $299.99, and if you purchased everything separately, supposedly a $379.99 value.)

It includes cutter, cartridge, paper and cardstock pads, trimmer, tool kit, mats, blades, manual, power adapter and more.

If you don't have a Michael's and this sounds like a good deal to you, I'm sure Santa could always ship it from Texas. ;)

I can get to a Michael's tomorrow on my way to Lansing. Does this require a coupon? Thanks so much for the assistance. I think I'll be the proud owner of a cricut by tomorrow night.

Do you remember all the journals I made before our trip? A lot of that (lettering, etc,) was done with the Cricut.

Here's another example. This is a card my niece made for me to send to Rees:

My niece uses hers everyday! She makes and sells cards at boutiques, and the Cricut cartridges make some really cute things for her to embellish her cards.

www.cricut.com - it is a way to cut letters, shapes, etc. You buy different cartridges for it. It is absolutely awesome for scrapbooking. I had tried a Sizzix machine and though it works great, it is time consuming. The Cricut is quick & easy. If you read scrapbooking boards, you'll hear them refer to it as a bug. Cricut is pronounced cricket (like the bug).

Here's Alan working on smoothing our new cemet pad. I was positive he was going to faceplant. Too bad he didn't. It could have been worth moolah!!!

While he was doing that, I was making these eyeball cookies. I made 3 dozen for a Halloween party. They went like hotcakes!

That is an awesome card. I will have to get the Mickey font cartridge & shape cartridge as well.

Here are the kids in their costumes. Leslie is in her Snow White costume, but just 5 minutes after this picture, she ripped it beyond repair, so I had to drag out our costume box, and let her choose something else. She chose a glamour witch, but I didn't have time to get a picture before she left for school. Oh well!

Jacob in the costume parade. His wig had slipped off, so he doesn't really have the Captain Jack hair.

Bernadette :wizard: that you & your family feels better soon.
Thanks! My face really hurts today-right under my eye-must be sinuses. I'll have to go find some drugs soon.

Hope you have a great time in Vegas!!!!

Bernadette - I am impressed that you got Joe's hat finished!
So am I.:lmao: I usually much better at starting things than finishing. I took some photos:

Here's the one my SIL made for him. It is beautiful but I just couldn't let Joe wear that. Emma says she'll wear it but I doubt she ever really will-maybe Lizzy will or maybe the threat of Lizzy wearing it will make Emma wear it.

Bernadette - I at least got my suitcases out of storage today. We also had to go and buy some jeans for DH, he recently lost 60 pounds and his old ones are falling off of him, we got him plenty of shorts before our last trip but it looks like the evenings and early mornings will be too cool for shorts. I got myself a light jacket, as my old one has seen much better days. I also called ME and updated my flight information, hopefully it won't change at this late date. PM me your plans if you still want to try and meet up.
Congrats to your DH! I have the most up to date version of my color coded matrix of fun at work. I'll send it to you tomorrow. I think we will both be at AK on Monday morning.

Oh and I got my MVMCP tickets in the mail today. :)
Cool!:santa:

We are back from my In-Laws. My FIL has decided not to have the surgery. He is 84 years old and has decided the pain & recovery aren't worth it. He was told he probably has 6 months to a year. It is his decision. Chuck's brother & sister are having trouble accepting this. Chuck has been preparing Katrina, Becky & I for this for at least a year. This week-end when my mom was here and asked how he was doing, Chuck told her he is preparing for his death (that was before he even had the heart attack). I'm not saying that I'm happy with the decision but I'm trying to be supportive anyways. I keep reminding myself that I don't want him to have the surgery for himself but for us. I understand him not wanting to be an invalid (55% chance of stroke with the surgery). He does have meds to take for his heart and they are watching his sugar levels because they were high yesterday. Otherwise, it is life as usual for him.
Vicki-I don't know what to say. I can understand your FIL decision. You will all be in my prayers.

Those cookies look gross. :lmao: That is supposed to be a compliment Glynis. I'm sure they went over very well for a Halloween party.

Thanks! My face really hurts today-right under my eye-must be sinuses. I'll have to go find some drugs soon.
:

My sinuses are killing me too---i heard they are coming out with a sinus PM medicine--i cant wait--i have the hardest time sleeping when i get a sinus infection

For Halloween dinner, I had planned a really neat thing so the kids would eat before trick or treating. Well, they didn't want my "bat" wings, or really anything else. So, I decided not to spend all my time on them. Instead I made "finger" sandwiches and blood (tomato) soup.

DSCN2282.jpg

The sandwiches came out really well. I just flattened breadsticks and layered ham and cheese in between two. I pinched the ends closed, shaped the tip, and gave some knuckles. Then I painted green fingernails with food coloring, and baked them. They were really good dipped into the tomato soup.

Unfortunately, the kids were too excited to eat more than a couple of bites, and then they were out the door!

I love the one your SIL made. It is beautiful but I can't imagine a boy wearing it. It wouldn't fit an adult, would it? :rotfl:

And they couldn't have been easier!!! Nilla wafers dipped in white chocolate. I tinted some blue for the iris, and a chocolate chip for the pupil. After the chocolate had hardened, I drew veins with a food coloring pen.

Yup, kids loved them! I was really surprised that at the Halloween party, I was the only one who brought something like that. Most of the other goodies were store bought brownies, and cookies, etc. I think that's probably why the kids liked mine. They were something new, and out of the ordinary!

Thanks Vicki and Glynis. I guess I should get myself caught up on scrapbooking before I go investing more money into supplies.

Nope - and I know they don't allow you to use their usual 40% coupons on Cricut stuff.

I've scanned the part of the ad relating to it:
