Eragon by Christopher Paolini, the movie is coming out soon. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snickett, I think there are now like 14 books in the series. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer.

There are 13 books in the series. The 13th just came out a short time ago and is titled "The End". I got it for Becky for Christmas. She loved that series. I tried to read it and couldn't stand it myself. Didn't like the movie much either. However, my now 18 year old daughter thinks it is fantastic.

Anyone know how many grandkids June had? I am sending something to Melanie and wanted to make sure that I have one for each of the kids. I show she had 3 teenage grandchildren but only have the name of one - Tanya. Any ideas out there?

Elizabeth,
Congrats on getting your dates!!! Hope the school schedule works out too! Maybe I'll see ya there..we are going to be at WDW 8/21-8/31!!! :cool1:

Jo,
Hope you are feeling better!

Deb,
I have the same problem with Daniel..the pants are to big at the waist..he is a string bean!

The doctor said Joe's ears are clear. He is congested in the chest and had a red throat but the strep came back negative. So he's all set to fly. :cool1:

Jo-hope you're feeling better soon.

Amy-welcome.

I got my Christmas photos in the mail today so I should try to get at least some of those done and finish packing and I even sent work home.

I'll try to stop in tomorrow to say goodbye.

Sorry, I don't know. But thank you for doing that for them. It is so thoughtful. :thumbsup2

Let's see...

I voted for the same tux that all of you did! :thumbsup2

Janet - DS really likes the Lemony Snicket books. I think he stopped at #11, though. He also read one called "Gregor and the Prophecy of Bain" that I think is the sequel to something else - maybe one that has already been mentioned. Oh, DS says the first one is "Gregor the Overlander".

Anne Marie - I would love to meet you guys in August!!

Kelli - Free dining was part of the deal they offered to onsite guests in Nov/Dec. If you booked for next summer before you checked out you got free dining in the package. So even though our APs will expire Aug. 3 we are saving $1053 on dining. We'll upgrade the tickets from our package to renew our APs. Now my challenge is to resist another trip between Feb & Aug with the current APs. :rolleyes1

Bernadette - Great news about Joe! I hope he stays healthy for the trip!

So what exactly do the results of the challenge mean? :confused3

4 lowest teams are out of the game and everyone else moves on to the next round.

Well, I called my friend who is usually very knowledgeable about school issues to ask her about the calendar. She said the legislation says no start dates prior to Aug. 27 BUT schools can submit a waiver to start earlier if they are willing to pay a fine for every day they are in session prior to Aug. 27. Hmm.

Dallas ISD is always in some sort of huge drama with misuse of funds or some other unethical thing. The district does not have much money and it would seem a huge waste of funds to start early. Also, there are a lot of very transient families and a lot of kids who show up after the first day of school, which costs the district money because they get paid on a per kid, per day basis. From all angles they would be better off starting later as opposed to earlier. But the district isn't being run by the sharpest knives in the drawer so we shall see.

Ah ha! So what was the challenge? Or is it a secret?
The had to plan highly elaborate parties, that is why the audience was picking out formal wear to wear on the red carpet of the elaborate parties.

Here is the link to the list of party websites for each team. They are sites with lots of pictures and descriptions for each party.

OK, first of all, that made my head hurt! That challenge must have been INCREDIBLY labor intensive and taken a ton of time. Second, now I am really hungry! Even though I just ate dinner some of those photos were too much!

Kate - You all did a terrific job! It must be hard to pull something like that together with a team. I have worked on real events that weren't nearly that elaborate and it was hard to do it as part of a team!

Tammi - I agree. There was only one of his top picks that I liked, so that made my vote VERY easy! I voted for the emerald green one that Deb commented on yesterday. The other two that I liked that belonged to non-DDA ladies didn't make his cut, either. :confused3
I chose the same one, Elizabeth!

How about Eragon? The movie is coming out soon as well. My kids have the book.
I was going to say that lots of my students are reading this book. One of my students actually wrote a composition titled Eragon, in honor of the book.

Also, Eldest (which I believe is about a dragon). They might be from the same author??

Christopher Paolini. There is a second in the series as well called Eldest. The book got really good reviews when it came out several years ago which is why I bought it. However, I still haven't read it. I am going to have to find it so that I can read it the next time I'm looking for something to read. I saw previews for the movie just recently.
There you go! :rotfl:

OK, DDA! The bids are finished!!

We got (drumroll, please) our second choice! We are now booked at WL August 15-24. Our free dining ressie changed over, no problem! :teeth:

Doesn't sound too bad, overall, Elizabeth. Congrats!
