When my twins were about 2 months old I was alone with them in the house. Alan had taken the other 2 kids for some Daddy time. I was nursing Mary on the couch when Leslie started to cry. Then she began to scream. She wanted attention in a bad way! I was at my wit's end, because every time I tried to put Mary down, she would cry, too. So, I just said out loud, "I need some help!" After about a minute, Leslie stopped crying and started giggling. I looked over at her, and she was looking straight ahead of her with a huge smile on her face, just giggling to beat the band. At that instant I KNEW my FIL who had died 2 years earlier, was taking care of her for me. I got tears in my eyes as I said, "Thanks, Dad. I really needed help." Then I felt a warmth run through me, like someone had just given me a hug.

I totally believe that he has been around to help me out when I needed it the most. He was the best FIL and grandpa ever! I just can't imagine that stopping just because he died!

Glynis you made me cry reading this. Oh wonderful that must have been.

This is for anyone that sews....
I'm making paint cans for Halloween. Not human size, but regular gallon size, out of canvas. I got two metal rings about 8 or 9 inches (so the top and bottom will hold the round shape) and have no idea on how to make a handle! Should I just use the canvas for handles or see about using 1/2 metal ring with grommets...no matter what, I want it to be "stable" and look like a paint can...
...any ideas?

Happy Saturday, everyone! We are off to a really late start today! We decided last night to take our kids to see Cars. We debated about it, because it's so costly to take our family of 6 to a movie, but we really didn't want to stay home, and that was the one thing we all agreed would be fun to do.

So, DH is looking up movie theaters, when lo and behold, we noticed it was playing at the drive in theater. I immediately told the kids to go get their jammies on and grab their blankets. DH packed the camp chairs in the van and we were off. We stopped at a store to grab some popcorn and soda, then to a Chinese place for some take out for dinner.

We got to the drive in about 8:30, set up blankets and camp chairs, got everyone situated and had dinner. The movie started about 9:30 and we had a blast. The best part? It only cost us 12 dollars for the tickets. Kids 9 and under are free!!! Adults only 6 dollars. Pretty cool. The chinese food was only 5 dollars, as well, so it ended up being a pretty cheap family night out!

The kids loved the movie (who am I kidding? Alan and I did, too!), and we all decided it's one we will be buying on DVD when it comes out. I'm hoping it comes out before Christmas so Santa can put it in Jacob's stocking. He loved Mater and Lightning.

It was a reallly fun evening! However, we're all dragging today. I'm thinking naps will be in order for us all!

Sounds like that was fun!!!

Policy at our hospital is that the baby must stay for at least 48 hours. Well DUH then the mom stays just as long.
Insurances will pay for 48 hours for normal deliveries and 96 hours for cesaran deliveries. The only time our pedis make our moms stay the whole 48 hours is if she was (group Beta Strep +) GBS + other wise the will let them gohome around 24 hours if everything is going well. If we let them go home that early then they have to see the pedi the very next day so the baby can have thier weight checked and look to see if baby is getting Jaundiced.

Marti called me to find out about Amy (they are out of town for her dad's birthday). She asked me to post congrats to Amy, Kevin, and Alyssa and let them know how happy they all were for them.

That was cool, Thanks Denise.
Hi Marti, Paul and Matthew!!!!! Safe travels.

It could be a military hospital thing. I stayed 48 each time and everyone I know how deliverd at our base hospital has stayed 48 hrs or more. It must be the military policy.

Tia congrats on moving your move up. I hope Phil is able to find work once he gets their. Dont spoil that niece and nephew too much now. ;) smilies not working for me.

Oh I forgot, My baby finally slept in her big girl bed last night! We had tried it a few months ago and it was horrible. So we went back to the crib. But while on vacation starting the climbing out again. Eric set the bed up yesterday and she napped in it and went to bed in it. She was actually very excited about it!

That's fantastic!!! Congratulations! I hope it keeps getting better!

Ham, Potato and Green Bean Soup

1 onion, peeled
2 (15oz) cans, cut green beans with liquid
1 1/2 pounds ham, cut into pieces
8 potatoes, peeled and cubed
4 quarts water
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup cold water

1. Place water in a 6-quart (or larger) pot. Bring to a boil.
Place whole onion and ham into water and boil for 30 minutes, adding more water as needed.

2. Add potatoes and cook until tender.

3. Remove onion and add the beans. Whisk the cornstarch and cold water together and also add. Cook until thickened.

Sounds yummy! I'm adding it to the DDA cookbook I'm starting.
