The Darling Family Takes on Marathon Weekend: Jan at the Boardwalk Villas

Great photopass pics!!!!
We enjoy Biergarten. The food isn't the best ever but it's good and the restaurant is fun. My DH (who doesn't even eat pork!) always wants to go there!

Amanda

Congratulations on finishing the marathon! What a wonderful accomplishment! The pictures of you and your DH are so cute!

Wow Jenny, I'm still surprised you were moving at all after the marathon! A surrey bike ride?? Oh I'm so glad you said you didn't do any of the pedaling, did your legs feel like Twizzlers? It did look like fun though even though your DH had to push! That would've made me laugh too.

Those photopass pics are awesome! They came out really, really nice. I like this one.

You look incredible, seriously. I'd probably look like a zombie after running 26 miles:eek:.

The Biergarten looks soooo good! We really want to try it out next time. The show looks so fun too. You all had a great night, didn't ya?:goodvibes

CONGRATS on finishing the marathon. So awesome!! :thumbsup2

How neat for you all to have medals now and proudly displayed. :goodvibes

I've always wanted to ride one of those surrey bikes...hehe.
Thank you! You should give the surrey bikes a try. I think they have them at Old Key West so you could try them on your upcoming trip!

Congrats again!!

Looks like you had a good feast at Germany!!

I wonder how the next morning will go?!
Biergarten was yummy and let's just say I wasn't moving very quickly the next morning:rolleyes1

The vibe of the Biergarten is great and the food is really good for a buffet. The only buffet I think the food is better is Boma. So we will definitely return.

Thank you! Those photopass pictures did turn out cute even though you can't see whatever was supposed to be behind us.

My legs felt more like rocks than Twizzlers. Just hard to move them, but it was a good excuse not to pedal:laughing: Thank you for telling me I look incredible. Very good for my ego. It may be because all of the pictures you've seen of me recently had been during the race so the comparison is fabulous:laughing: Definitely try the Biergarten out. It was a fun night!

So in case you haven’t noticed, our park time so far this trip has been pretty limited. The first half of our trip was definitely focused on our races. All the racing was done now. So the 2nd half of the trip was about visiting the parks.:yay: I woke up Monday morning and I was pretty sore. Not too shocked by that. We still had a park to get to. This was our Hollywood Studios day. So after breakfast in the room we headed out to the walkway over to Hollywood Studios. It was fun to walk the path and remember my experience racing on it the day before. Walking to Hollywood Studios was a bit of a different experience for me. Normally when we are walking places at Disney, especially in the morning before rope drop, we are fast walkers. We pass a heck of a lot more people than pass us. Today was a bit different. I was a slow walker. Instead of my kids racing behind me to keep up I was behind them. And people were actually passing us on our walk. The plan was to make it to rope drop, but I didn’t take my soreness into account. So we actually arrived at the turnstiles at exactly 9:00 and the Toy Story Dash was already in full swing. We still got in on it and made our way over to Toy Story Mania. The plan was to ride first and then get fast passes. After several trips I’ve discovered this works out the best. So we hopped in the standby line which was 20 minutes. I spent my time taking a few pictures. As a Darling, I had to take a picture of this.

marathondays148.jpg

Then I decided to take some crayola pictures. Notice how the pink crayon has barely been used. That cracks me up.:rotfl:

marathondays151.jpg

I had the kids pose. Notice everyone is wearing their medals today. I forced them to.

marathondays152.jpg

DH posed for me.

marathondays153.jpg

Wendy and I rode together. Here are our scores. I don’t remember who scored what.

marathondays154.jpg

It was about 9:30 when we finished the ride. We picked up fast passes for later and then discussed what to do next. My kids won’t ride the thrill rides so that eliminated TOT and RNRC. I suggested the Muppets, but was pooh poohed by all. I wanted to see at least one of the shows while we were here, but they didn’t start until 11:00. The boys wanted to ride Star Tours, but that was down for renovation. Wendy wanted to go on the Great Movie Ride. DH had never been on it so he was game. The boys, however, didn’t want to. As you can see this was not an easy decision. Made me kind of miss the old days when I was uber planner and had the order of our day printed up on index cards. Wendy and DH decided to go on the Great Movie Ride and the boys agreed to stay with me. There were some characters out in front of the hat so we decided to meet them.

These guys are always so silly. By the time we finished with them all of the other lines were closed. I guess they were all going in for breaks. The boys wanted to check out the pin store under the hat. They didn’t see anything worth spending their money one, but I did. (Sorry for the blurry picture.)

Thought it would be perfect because it is our Disney Home.:goodvibes I was feeling pretty sore so we found a bench and plopped ourselves down. I took a picture of our view.

marathondays156.jpg

This is a lovely façade. I never saw Hollywood Studios before they put the hat up, but I can see why people complain about it. This beautiful building is pretty much completely blocked by the hat. I don’t think the hat is going anywhere soon though. Wendy and DH made it back from the ride. DH enjoyed it. So now we had to decide once again where to next?

Jenny, I love how I know you'll always update in the morning and I'll have something to read! ;) Had they started the new show in front of the hat (that replaced HSM)? If you got to see it, I would love to hear about it! Kudos to you for walking after running a marathon the previous day(although I'm sure it was the best thing for your muscles!) :thumbsup2

Hi! My family and I got a chance to ride the surrey bikes around the boardwalk area a couple of years ago. Our kids were also too young to pedal so dh and I had to petal. We never laughed so hard. On the inclines we actually had to make a running start at It!
We have not been to Biergarten yet but it does sound fun. I love the Toy Story Dash!
almost feels like your in a race:rotfl2:

Aww that's sad the kids don't like TOT or RnR. My 4 and 5 yr olds at school love love love Tower and those tall enough love RnR.

I bet you head to the Animation building to go to the drawing class!!!!!

I totally agree with loving the morning updates (especially during the week when I need a fun jumpstart at work) and with the kudos on getting out of bed much less going to a park the morning after the marathon! And you wear that medal, girl! :thumbsup2 Heck, I'd be tempted to have a copy tattooed somewhere prominent on my skin.

Interesting advice about standby before fastpass on TSM...whudda thunk it? This will be our first time riding (gasp, I know) so we'll try your strategy.

Congratulations Jenny, you did so well and you did it!!! You ran the Disney World Marathon!!!

I love that you got photos with the BatB cast and Russell too, shame Carl wasn't with him too :)

Love the Surrey bike ride, bless DH pushing away there lol  Great PP pics too, you guys look great with all your medals proudly worn :goodvibes

It's a bit of a morning ritual. Get the kids off to school and then do a little DISing. Though some days I actually have stuff to do so it doesn't happen. The whole report is written now so it doesn't take too long to upload pictures and put up an update. I believe they had started the new show but we didn't see it. Wendy has outgrown that stuff and the boys were never really into it.

That incline is tough! Of course I think that make the whole thing more fun! Yes the Toy Story Dash is a bit like a race. Some people move faster than some of the actual racers the day before.

Wow your 4 year olds love TOT. That is very brave of them! We won't be going back for a while and I hope by the next time we take a trip the kids will be more willing to try some of the thrill rides.

I wasn't going to spend a Disney Day in bed even if my whole body hurt. And don't worry I wore that medal. I don't think you'll see another picture of me without it!

Thanks Stefy! That would have been so cool Carl was with Russell. I wonder if they will ever bring them out regularly again. I'm glad you like the medals cause you'll see them often.

I love that marathon shirt and chip n dale look so adorable in those outfits!! Good to see you guys getting in some time at the parks!

Congratulations on finishing the marathon....so proud of you!!

Love the pictures! I probably should have eaten dinner before reading your post....that food at Biergarten looks delish!!!

Somehow I got a week behind...and missed the end of your race! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Your description of how it feels to be a marathoner totally made me tear up. What an amazing accomplishment!

Congratulations on finishing the marathon! That is an awesome accomplishment.

I love your trip reports! I ran my first half marathon at Disneyland last year and can't wait to do a race at WDW (my DH says maybe next year :goodvibes). Your pictures make me so excited to go. I especially liked your photo of the BatB cast.

Love the marathon shirt! Looks great. The pics of Chip and Dale turned out really cute. I like their ties!

I thought of your TR yesterday when I was watching an old rerun of How I Met Your Mother...where Neil Patrick Harris' character runs a marathon with no training and does fine until he sits down on the subway afterwards and can't get back up...:lmao: He should have kept moving! :rotfl:

Chip 'n Dale's outfits are pretty adorable. In fact I think all of the new outfits the characters are wearing at the HS hat are pretty cute. We only met these guys, but Minnie's pink dress is adorable too.:cutie:

Congratulations on finishing the marathon....so proud of you!!

Thank you! I wish I could have Biergarten for dinner tonight!

Thank you so much! It is something I am very proud of.

I'm glad you popped in. DL is a fun run. We did it back in 2007. You'll love WDW too. It's a different vibe because it is all on property. I hope you get there soon!

The Chip and Dale pics are cute. The boys just love them. I've seen that episode of How I Met Your Mother. It's pretty funny and I can totally relate to his post race difficulties:laughing:

So after a bit more group discussion we decided to head over to the Animation Studio to see if we could draw somebody. My kids had never done this and I especially thought Wendy would enjoy it. We skipped the movie by walking through the store and had to wait a few minutes for the next drawing class. It didn’t take too long before we were seated with pencils in hand. Who did we get to draw?

disney11290.jpg

It’s Sorcerer Mickey. That is my drawing above and I was pretty proud of it. Drawing is definitely not my forte so I was surprised it turned out so well. Here are the results from the rest of the Darling Family. DH.

Everyone but Michael enjoyed this. Michael thought his drawing was “the worst Mickey ever.” Hard as we tried we couldn’t convince him otherwise. I told him it’s tough for 6 year olds and it was great for a 6 year old. This is my little competitor, however, and he wasn’t buying it. Wendy, on the other hand, loved it. She wanted to do another class. We had other plans, however. We were actually going to see a show we’d never seen before. It was time for Indiana Jones. As we exited through the store I saw this lovely print that reminded me of my family.

marathondays157.jpg

We headed over to the Indiana Jones theater and got ourselves some pretty good seats. Here are a couple of shots of us waiting for the show to start.

marathondays158.jpg

marathondays159.jpg

I don’t have any pictures of the show, but all of us except Wendy loved it. Wendy thought it was boring. (Oh well. At least she’d liked the drawing class.) I know people complain about it needing to be updated, but since it was our first time it seemed fresh to us. After lunch our tummies were rumbling. So we headed to our favorite table service in Hollywood Studios.

marathondays160.jpg

That is right. We ate at Sci Fi.:cool1: The food here is nothing too exciting. I just had the hamburger, but the atmosphere is really unique. This time Wendy refused to sit with the boys, however. So she sat with DH and I. Kind of ruined the allusion that we were on a date that we used to get when we came here and the kids all sat in the front seat and quietly watched the movie. It was still fun though. So our bellies were full. Where were we off to next? Those TSM mania fast passes were burning a hole in our pocket so we headed back over to that side of the park. Have you noticed how we seem to be criss crossing the park? My sore body wasn’t letting me forget. The clouds were starting to roll in and we still hadn’t gotten something I really wanted. Because I’d run through all 4 parks, I wanted a family picture in each park where we all had our medals on. Luckily for us a Photopass photographer was out as we made our way over to TSM. Here is what he took.

Can you see those threatening clouds? We headed over to TSM and had another fun ride. As we exited the ride we noticed it was pouring. You know how those Florida rainstorms are. The rain was coming down in sheets and we had no rain gear. They were forcing us out the exit. Where in the world could we get to quick enough to prevent getting soaked? Or did we just get soaked?

You should show Michael my Tigger drawing...he'll feel so much better about his Mickey! I think everyone did a great job....I love doing that!

That picture of Peter Pan is gorgeous.....

Keeping my fingers crossed that you didn't get soaked:confused3

I was behind an update or two (or maybe three:rolleyes:) but I'm all caught up again. I laughed out loud at your surrey bike story and your hubby having to push the bike. We almost had to do the same thing when we rented one at the CBR. The hill was steep and we were pedaling with all our might too. It did make for great memories.

We've never eaten at Biergarten because I'm afraid that my picky eaters wouldn't find anything they'd like. But, after seeing your pictures of the buffet, I may just have to reconsider.

It sounds like your day at Hollywood Studios started off pretty darn well but I'm worried about those darkening skies. Tell Michael that he should see some of the drawings that I've done in the Animation Studios and he'd change his mind about how critical he was of his.

You took a picture of the Peter Pan painting too! I wish I had the money to buy one of the paintings in the shop there at Hollywood Studios. I could go spend happy there.
