Morning,
A crazy, mentally exhausting weekend. Looks like my youngest brother has COVID-19. He went to work Saturday morning feeling fine and by mid afternoon he developed a cough and fever and came home. My SIL called the state hotline (they live in TX) and was directed to take him to a local hospital. They ran tests eliminating the flu and strep but would not give him a COVID test as they were in shorty supply and only testing the critically ill. He was diagnosed with mild COVID anyway and sent home to quarantine for 14 days. He calls his employer yesterday morning (he was supposed to work) and his boss told him a quarantine letter from the hospital was not good enough to miss work and get paid for the next two weeks. NOT.GOOD.ENOUGH. His boss told him he had to get a COVID test. My brother explained the hospital was in short supply and wouldn't test him. Again, boss said he needed a test and to drive to Dallas to one of their tests sites, 40 miles away. All testing sites in Dallas are open 7 days a week and its first come, first serve - no doctor's note needed. So now he is under quarantine orders but violates them to drive himself to Dallas to get the test which thankfully he does. Meanwhile, his wife calls her work (they both are considered essential workers work for a retail giant- he works in a warehouse, she works in the call center) to explain to them what is happening with her husband and how they must now all self isolate. They ask her if she is having any symptoms. She said no, they say, come in to work tomorrow as scheduled. She's going in but plans to head straight to HR. Unfreaking believeable! No wonder we can't control the spread! My SIL called the state hot line yet again to file a complaint and was told there is nothing they can do because they work for a privately owned company and no one can step in to tell them how to run a business or what demands they may want to place on their workers. I am having such a hard time wrapping my head around this...I just don't understand...
