~The Daily Grind~ 4/29/09

I did not know that we had a case in AZ! My kids hands are going to be red from washing!

DIT~ glad to hear about MIL! Prayers and thoughts were with you today even tho I hadnt posted them:)

PN~ like the song says "What was she (I) thinkin?" The principle would have heard and seen me coming and our staff knows to have locked the doors!
Sounds like your drama teacher wanted a little of her own!
Your young man has a good head on his shoulders, good on him and the others for showing when their own teacher wouldnt!
As Tuk and Roll and Donald would say "YOUR FIRED!"

Indiana is a Notre Dame student according to the news.. :(
I need to follow up some more..

DD was in the rain running 2 miles and holding blocks for her friends to start their races and she is congested now.. poor thing...

I'm back and I survived, barely. And I fixed my spelling mistake too, the phone automatically spelled their, thief cause I swapped the I and E.

Anyway, we had fun. Stupid people put me in City Hall, HUGE Mistake!! Do not put me in with politicians!!! But my crew was good. We were with another school, well 1/2 of their 7th grade anyway. We only had 26 kids and and they had about 50 (I thought it was more). Our kids were waaaayyyy better!!!! LOL

Then we went to Hometown Buffet for dinner, the boys were naughty at the dessert line so I had to bring out the mom card. I have no issue with embarrassing all of them if need be! There is one boy that tries to hang with DS and I can not stand him. We went round and round today. From cussing and calling me a Witch with a Capital "B" to making inappropriate shapes with the ice cream, I wanted to smack him!!!

Next up, Mark Twain House in May. I get to go on that trip too because I paid for most of our costs for this trip.
Then it's DS7's turn for the Zoo with the Barbie teacher, that will be oh so joyful.

Glad to hear Dit! thanks for the update. i will continue to keep your family in my prayers.

buffy you've had quite the day! you need to do....calgon take me away!

We have a suspected case now two school districts over.

The scary thing is - and I am NOT a fearmonger - is that they are not reporting all the suspected cases. There is a nurse in MN who said that there is one reported confirmed case but that there are 150 suspected cases. 100 of those they are certain are the flu and 50 that are probable.

My DH still wants to send me to a compound, but I more than a little worried. Even if you get this round of the flu, it could mutate. In 1918 there was a "mild" version that spring then in the fall it came back and was the killer. Those that got it the first time were not immune. Some got it the second time and killed them just are readily as the virgin ones. Medicine and science has come a long way. I don't think we will see those horrors today. I do worry about the rest of the world who does not have access to the care we do and what will that do the world economy?

I would suggest using hand sanatizer more than washing hands- it will eliminate a lot more of the bacteria. I am thinking I would send my kids with a mini bottle of it to keep in their desk if need be (I know as a teacher our kids were not allowed to have it in school but I think I would risk suspension for my kids. At the same time as a teacher I would have pulled out the sanatizer a lot more during this time- we always used it after recess and before lunch but i would probably do my class a few times a day. Also I highly advise you to tell your children not to drink from the water fountains no matter what- in taking away the water foundtain from my students 9they used water bottles) I never had a shared cold or flu in my classroom- no more than 2 students ever got the same thing.

4 kids are being tested from the University of Delaware(where DS goes) ...don't know anything about them...

Here is the CDC from today:

States # of laboratory confirmed cases
Arizona 1
California 14
Indiana 1
Kansas 2
Massachusetts 2
Michigan 2
Nevada 1
New York 51
Ohio 1
Texas 16
TOTAL COUNTS 91 cases 1 death

Add us to the unconfirmed list, we have 7 school districts closed for the rest of the week. Most of which have kids who recently returned from Mexico.

I drilled it into the kids today about cleanliness and we have begun protocol at our school for disinfecting the building.

buffy you've had quite the day! you need to do....calgon take me away!

I did and I do need a calgon moment. I'm getting a raging headache from having to deal with trouble maker, DH and I also sat down and talked to DS12 about if Trouble starts talking trash about me again he has permission to beat the snot out of Trouble.
Although I think the silent treatment for this one is the way to go, he wants attention. DS12 sits across from him at lunch (assigned seats) and I told DS that I'm going to the office tomorrow to tell the principal that DS has my permission to move. I told DS just act as though he's not even there and to let a few of his friends know what DS is up to. I think DS is going to have to take the lead on this one and get all the kids involved. I think if they shut him out, Trouble will learn his lesson.

Poor Ryan, but it sounds like to me the kid wants our boy as a friend and is probably secretly wanting to be like him and have what he has. I agree, ignore the kid when he is acting up and being friendly when all is well. Little Mr. Bad Boy will quickly realize he will only get attention when he is acting civil. Some kids want attention so bad they will take negative attention because they don't know better.

Glad you had a great day Buffy... However, City Hall.. City Hall, politics and Buffy.. I would have loved to been there... as for mouth boy he would have been in a lot of trouble with me...

I've sent the kids w/ mini-bottles of hand sanitizer they are to keep in their pocket w/ a note for their teachers (or any staff that sees it). I'm sorry but it is safety for my children first. DD won't miss school because if she does; she can't opt out of a final because she hasn't missed any school.

My kiddos have their little bottles in their pocket too.
There is a dispenser by the door in all the rooms, but I'd rather them not touch that right now. :sad2: Can you say "worry much Mom?"

I want to pull my kids. But my DH thinks I am going overboard with this and won't support that move. I asked him what he needs to see so that this is a real thing to him, but he had no answer. Playing ostrich, pretending that it is nothing is not going to keep my little guys safe. They are happy to know that Mommy now has 1 month worth of food for them if the government says we all need to stay home.

I doubt DD's school would allow hand sanitizer to be sent in. They freaked when I sent in a sealed container of saline nasal spray one year.

I'll have to see if any notices were sent home while I was away.

that is so so true.
ya have to feel bad for them.

well I would if he weren't old enough to know better.

I met with the principal and she already had a meeting lined up with the teacher. I checked back in this afternoon and the meeting was about Trouble. Including a call to his parents, which I'm sure went well. DS said he was bad today including detention for unrelated behavior. DS did move at lunch so at least he has a peaceful meal.
