~The Daily Grind~ 3/2/10

Stephanie, what did the dr say?
SIOH, cats are very clean animals. I don't that would be the primary reason of his outbreaks.
PPF - sounds like you and DH have all your ducks in a row for tomorrow appt. I will be thinking and sending pd your way.:wizard:

To do on Day 2 of my furlough:

Wood on the wood stove
Clean out the stinky pete box
Get DD up and out for school
Call vet
caffeinate
take kitten to the vet, he isn't eating and is losing weight. This is the second time this has happen. He has a fever. Was NOT thrilled on getting his temp that way. :scared1: The vet did a blood draw to test what may be going on.
Do taxes
Go out with one of my peeps to the LSS. :woohoo:
Check on another friend.
Afternoon nap :cloud9:
Dinner - asparagus and steaks
Meeting with DD's behavior analyst.
Oversee tubby time
Might spend some time in my scrapbook room.

I don't have eczema, but I do have psoriasis. This time of year is also really bad for me because lack of sun = lower vitamin D produced by the body. Also, have their been any changes in SIOLB's diet? I have dietary triggers, especially wheat that makes my skin go crazy. I know "nightshade vegetables" are also triggers for people. Those include tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplant, mushrooms.

Brooke, I hope you can figure out what's making DS's rash worse. Since he's been around the cats since he was born, I wouldn't think that would have an effect on the rash. Plus at this time of year the cats aren't shedding much so there shouldn't be as much cat hair as in the warmer months.

As for me, I went to the doctor and she's not sure what's up. The swelling in my arm and hand concerned her so I went for an ultrasound to make sure I didn't have a blood clot. Nope, all was fine. Then, we did x-rays to make sure I didn't have anything broken, fractured, or torn. All okay. The doc thinks it may be tendonitis (tennis elbow), but it's wierd that it's my left arm when I'm right handed and haven't done anything repetitive to cause it. She gave me some pain meds and wants me to see a physical therapist. I have taken 1 of the pain meds so far and it's wonderful. My arm still hurts, but not as badly. I'm holding off on the physical therapist part because that just seems wierd at the moment. I told her I'd like to wait for a bit and see if it'll start feeling better on it's own. So, after spending lots of $$ today (I hadn't met my deductible for this year yet) I really don't know anything more than I did this morning. But, I do have drugs!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Oh, and the pain meds help enough that I can now type with two hands!!!!!!

Talked to our educational advocate - she's very helpful and calm as we plow through this crappy process. It always helps to talk with her - it just ain't cheap to do so :sad2: - so we try not to involve her until we REALLY need assistance.

So, I've got my notes and homework to type up/pull together tonight, in between flipping pancakes!, so I'm signing off for the evening - have a good night everyone, and I'll check back in tomorrow mid-day-ish. Thanks for all the energy and good wishes - we need and appreciate them.

Stephanie - just saw your post - good! - at least the pain is lessening, and hopefully, the swelling will too.

Pam, good luck and lots of pixie dust for tomorrow. I hope you can knock some sense into the school folks and get them to provide the necessary help to your DS.

Thanks for all of the info, everyone! I hadn't thought about the weather aspect! We'll have to keep an eye on that!

Pam, good luck tomorrow!!!

DIT, glad the arm's feeling better!!

Quick question--DH took DS to the ped this morning with a rash we haven't been able to get rid of. Dr says it's "severe eczema" and that it will always be something he'll have (off and on)--my dad has it, and I do too. A co-worker says that her hubby has it, and animals make it really bad. DS LOVES animals (our two indoor cats), but am I making it worse by keeping them in the house where he's around them? I clean and clean, but if you've ever had cats, you know that keeping it "cat-free" is next to impossible. We've had them for 10 years, but I'm concerned about DS. So, tell me. . .what do y'all think??

My friend Lynie, the doc, says the only allergy patients who get rid of their pets are the ones whose parents didn't want the pets in the first place! (She has allergies herself AND 5 cats)

If he's had them his whole life, he's probably used to them by now - although, you'll find out for sure when they finally die of old age. I personally wouldn't want to deal with the trauma of trying to take them away from him - especially if it turns out the exema was still there after they were gone.

I switched from detergent to home made laundry soap (fels naptha, boraxo & washing soda) and stopped using dryer sheets which seemed to slow down our skin issues.

Sleep well, friends!

Well, that was fun...NOT.

I went outside to work more in the garden. And when I closed the door, the wood block "security system" fell into place. So I was locked out! I had to call DH and tell him, he had to come home on time, even though he was planning on staying late, which annoyed him. Stuck outside for 90 min, with the sun going down, in CO, with only a T-shirt wasn't high on my list of things to do today. I did get half the garden done, but my arms are very tired now.

Pam, good luck tomorrow. I hope they see that you are not going to change your minds and give the boy the services he needs!

Oh Hope, that's something I would do (I have actually - climbed in through my dining room window, twice!). On the good side, you'll never do that again!

Science Fair is over. It was relatively painless, but boy am I glad it's done!

Oh that really stinks Hope. I'm glad you had your cell phone with you. I too have learned to stick that in a pocket when I leave the house.

Best of the Pixie Dust tomorrow Pam.

Stephanie, hope your arm gets better soon!!

Pam, get geared up for tomorrow!!

Off early for sky dandruff today!! And my boys were already home, so I got to go have lunch with them!!

My daughter has severe excema and hers is worse in the spring. She also has itchy eyes and runny nose in the growing season. We had allergy testing done to see what she was allergic to. She is allergic to the tree outside her bedroom window another tree on the side of the house and grass. ARRGGGG
She started allergy shots last fall so we'll see if it helps.

She has to use Elidel daily to keep it under control year round, even winter, and she should not be having allergies then.

I used to have ezcema really bad when I was younger, but it is not nearly as bad now as it was then. So I don't think Oreo (dog) has done anything to make it worse, since it's almost non-existant now.

I know that my doctor said I dried my hands too well, and that got rid of a lot of the moisture I needed in the dry winter air. I use a lot of hand lotion - is there a kid-safe lotion you can use? I really like ones with paraffin in them.

Thanks for all of the advice!! We started the cream stuff last night, so we'll see how that goes!!
