~The Daily Grind~ 3/1/10

Wow--Pam, stick it to them!! As an educator, I can tell you that at our school, we try to do any possible way to help our special needs students--no matter what the situation is!! Make sure they give you the services you need!! If not, move down here! We'll take care of him!

Exciting news--DH & I have been discussing a Disney Cruise for the Summer of 2011 for a while. We booked today!! Woohooooo!! We'll be on the Disney Dream on June 7, 2011 for two stops at Castaway Cay!!

Awesome! Take good care of the Dream for us, since we go two+ months after you!!!:rotfl2: We'll be anxiously awaiting your TR! We looked at the August 2011 double dips, but then realized we could *just* squeeze a 7-night B2B in for only $200 more before our kids have to go back to school. (But I realized today we will miss the 2011 Orlando SDV...:sad1: ) And we'll get two visits at CC too! (That is the BEST part!!!) Congrats to you and DH!

I hope things go well on Wednesday. In our district, the screamy PITA parents are the ones who seem to get the services for their kids, while the rest of us get the leftovers. Well, I'm ready to go to the dark side...bwah ha ha ha! :darth:

Not a good day around here.

DS6 was going to get his shoes this morning and I heard one of THOSE screams....if you have kiddos, you know which one I'm talking about. He was crying that he had a "splinter".....it was not a splinter, more like a dagger; I took a pic of it later. He somehow got it from the wood around the (inside) stairs, it went through his sock and slid in like the top layer or so of the skin on his toe; no blood, not through to the bone or anything, but in one end and out the other. He was trying to take the sock off, and i was trying to get him not to, and look at it and calm him down at the same time. I sat down and cried with him, because I honestly did not know what to do. I remember that you aren't supposed to just pull stuff out, but it wasn't bleeding or anything, and of course, my DH who is a paramedic was not here. He was driving the school bus, where he cannot answer his cell phone. I took DS9 to school and met DH at the place where he stops between high school and elementary routes. DH had his stuff and got it out, but poor DS screamed and cried. He got cleaned up and bandaged, and I took him to school.

My 12-yo sheltie has been sick since she got into the neighbor's trash on Friday, so she spent the day at the vet. She has pancreatitis, and they don't know if she'll make it or not. My poor baby, both of them. She's home, but she won't eat anything and isn't drinking much at all. She is the first pet I've ever had.

Hope everyone had a good day and good weather....

Steph

I did something today that I haven't done since I lived at home, so like 15 years ago. I played in the dirt!!! I'm so sick and tired of the cold and white stuff. But the last few days it's been getting near 50. So I took my little garden tools (I need bigger ones, maybe this weekend) and I turned over 1/4 of the vegetable garden space that is here at the house. I'm not sure when the previous owners last used it, I know not last year. A bit rocky, a bit rooty, but not too bad. Since all I had were the little tools more suitable for smaller spaces, it was quite the workout. But it felt so nice.

Colorado is not supposed to be the easiest place to grow, because of the late spring and early fall frosts. But what I've been reading says that some crops can be planted in late March. So I want to get the soil turned, work in some peat moss and get it ready. Plus, it's just nice to be outside.

Lettuce, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage will grow okay in the colder, shorter season.

You can also make small greenhouses with milk jugs to start with and as they grow use hoops and plastic sheeting. Cold frames can be made with a window pane and some bales of hay.

Good for you for getting out there. :thumbsup2

I was just reading about the milk jugs! I have an empty on the counter, I better go snag it before it goes into the recycle.

Make sure to rinse it out well. A little bleach is a good thing. Be careful when cutting the bottom out.

The smell from heated sour milk is pretty revolting.

Okay sap running all night is a good thing for production but this early in the season has lead to shorter seasons so it's a toss up. It also means up and down out of bed for Tom. If the releaser is dumping fast (fast flow) it doesn't take long at 5 gals per dump to fill a 700 gal tank. On days that it is really running i've seen it dump every 90 SECONDS average is 3-4 mins. So it was a night of little sleep he went to bed at 1 and was up at 6 to a full tank, so not the fastest of running nights. It was also windy as heck and snowing sideways sap was confused I guess that is NOT it normal conditions. It ran all day and I have no clue if it is still running. I hope for the grumpy husband syndrome it has stopped and he will get at least 7 hours of sleep tonight.
