~The Daily Grind~ 3/1/10

Wait... What did that say? MARCH :scared1: Are you kidding me? Wasn't it just Christmas? Yikes!

Today is my weigh in...I hope the scale is going in the right direction. Last week I wore a scrub top that has been a little tight for the first time in a while, and it fit great, if not a lil loose... Yesterday I wore a beautiful embriodered top that I love...definatly loose, to the point of altering...

So, even if the scale doesn't say it, my clothes do.

My list for today:

Pam, do you need help or support on this? I find myself open that day.

Hey, I can't get in the way of "bonbon time on the sofa" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Lisa, I appreciate your offer more than you could ever know. I've spent this a.m. plowing through test results (both school testing and independent) going back years - DH is gonna plot them up to graphically show the "been falling off a cliff" situation. We did connect with our terrific special ed advocate, who we'll caucus with tomorrow to plan and review.

The situation (in a very tiny nutshell!) is that our brilliant 10 year old (5th grade) son, who was tested by the school reading/decoding words at a "more than a 12th grade level" in 2008, is at the 2nd grade level for reading comprehension. The school has been "trying things" and waving their hands citing progress in "other areas" and telling us "he's so smart, he'll catch up" - ummmm, magically? Reading comprehension is a classic area of difficulty for kids with autism, and of course, this weakness is affecting his performance in ALL subjects - you gotta read and understand the textbooks, right, no matter if it is science, social studies, math, etc.? (So, one might think that since EVERYONE knows this is a classic academic weakness, that they'd have a program or system in place...guess again!) Right now, they are proposing making NO changes to his educational plan for the upcoming year. WTH?

We simply cannot allow this to continue and it is criminal for anyone to think of sending him off to middle school in a few months reading on a second grade level. So, we're gearing up for the battle!

Maybe we can swap PMs or phone calls as we wind through this process - I hate to take advantage of your unexpected forced vacation (ahhhh...politics!) where you could/should be doing important things like spending time with your family - and scrapping!

Pam

Pam I'm hping for your sake it's the elementary attitude. I dealt with it with L. When he hit Jr High what a refressiing attitude. His case manager is wonderful and jumped on the fact that he needed testing done (he's due in the spring) she didn't want to lose all of 6th grade so she moved it up to this past fall. she also said they did a CRAPPY job on the first round done in 3rd grade (same district) and got it done. With the transfer coming up they should also be involved at least that is how it works up here.
Good luck I to can listen and help if need be. most of all hang in there take a few deep breaths and maybe dip into that liqour cabinet.

Hello everybody!

NAIL THEM, Pam! The schools seem to be notorious almost everywhere for wanting to do as little as possible outside their routine to help these kids. Every parent I've come in contact with with kids with special needs says the same thing - or at least the same song, different words.

Laundry
prepare for the tax man
put everything from the weekend away
download photos
make supper.

Joyah, sap running all night isn't good, is it?

Yes, Christy, explain the sap running all night. I would think you want LOTS!?:confused3

Pam - Good Luck with your meeting.

Missing quite a few tax documents - hmmm - wonder where they are?? Well at least I worked on it. Now to print info from websites.....

Wow--Pam, stick it to them!! As an educator, I can tell you that at our school, we try to do any possible way to help our special needs students--no matter what the situation is!! Make sure they give you the services you need!! If not, move down here! We'll take care of him!

Exciting news--DH & I have been discussing a Disney Cruise for the Summer of 2011 for a while. We booked today!! Woohooooo!! We'll be on the Disney Dream on June 7, 2011 for two stops at Castaway Cay!!
