~The Daily Grind~ 11/23/09

Welcome to Monday again!! Everyone Caffeinate!
eatdrink013.gif

Short week this week for me...how about everyone else?

So, I had a talk with DS21 about the whole not calling thing. He said he wanted her to call me, because it was her appt with me... so I told him when she wasn't calling, he should have stepped up and just called. I told him about having the dinner fixed and was waiting...blah, blah, blah...he was sorry and said it wouldn't happen again.

His DGF did come over after she finished work, and did my hair...while my hair was "cooking" I had DS21 make the left overs. I then had him clean up while I was being cut :thumbsup2 So, I now have my pretty bunny hair back again. She really does a great job on hair...

My list for today:

Caffeinate

Get Little Bit's room turned into the guest room.
Put laundry away [I put hanged laundry on the shower pole in the laundry room, mom will need that one for her shower chair since it has the long hose on the shower head]
Make out grocery list. Will be doing that first thing tomorrow morning.
Maybe grab a bottle of wine so I can imbibe in secret while they are here. :lmao:
I love my family, but we put the capital D in Dysfunctional. What wine doesn't need to be refrigerated after opening?
Dust
Vacuum
Clean bathrooms
Clean up kitchen
Make appointment for doggie grooming on Tuesday. DH will need an escape. ;)
Dinner, homework, continue with what didn't get done earlier.

Ah...Monday again -

Good luck, AWM - sounds like you're well-prepared for this visit...a wine bottle stashed in each room?

FIL left this a.m. - long drive ahead - had a nice visit, but the past few days were so crazy-busy, that we didn't have much down time with him - and what time we DID have, he spent watching football on tv! Oh, well - a nice visit!

Busy a.m. - then maybe a quieter afternoon/evening.

DH taking DS to early a.m. drs appt.
Re-scheduled dental cleaning/check-up visits for all - then DH has to drive kids to school (late)
Have to get going on mountains of wash.
Walk dog
Homework oversight
Dinner - still have to do menus for the week, but quiche or meatballs and the other one tomorrow.
Hope to get two "in-progress" layouts finally finished sometime tonight
Meds and bed

Interesting historical tidbit on Thanksgiving and laundry :laundy: !

Monday traditionally became "wash day" in the US because of the Pilgrims. They actually landed on Cape Cod on a Saturday after their 66-day journey across the Atlantic. A few of the men went ashore in Provincetown (at the very tip of the Cape) that day to briefly check out the area and do a little hunting. Sunday was the Sabbath, so no one ventured off the ship. But, Monday morning, the women flocked off the ship to do the months worth of washing they hadn't been able to do onboard in the relatively clean water in the tidal pools. Within a day or two, the Mayflower headed to Plymouth, since they didn't think they could make a go of the colony on the sandy beaches of Cape Cod. The rest of that story you know, and somehow, the Monday Wash Day thing stuck. Thus endeth the lesson...!

Great lesson PBF! ;) Explains why I did laundry yesterday, I was avoiding the mad rush of today!

Well, so far DH has survived... He was being a pill this morning.. His Gramps isn't doing well... he hasn't been able to talk directly to Grams. His mother called but she only tells 1/2 of the story and interpretes details to her liking. DH's mother also hates the fact that DH and grandparents are very tight. The kids north, DH's "siblings" that term is used very loosely, and mother usually have very little contact w/ Grandparents but have decided since Gramps has taken a turn for the worse they are driving down tonight to bombard them with 8 people. Where are they staying??? With Grams... Gramps is due to go to a hospice facility today..but again we have little information and need to speak directly to Grams. Please say a little prayer from Grams and Gramps....

Today:

Nice tidbit Pinball Family!
SIOH- hope you can get through the list and glad to hear the hair is getting better.
Debbie- glad your hair turned out well.

Today:
go on reopened space Mountain- didn't get there yesterday due t guest services fiasco
hang out in Mk for a bit (depends on crowds
enjoy some time in the room- relaxing- we both need a break
head to DHS to see Osborne lights at 6pm
head back to BLT and up to the lounge for dinner (the flatbreads are really good and they have a dessert trio that will be fun to try)
enjoy an evening in the lounge- our fantastic waitress Lydia is working again tonight- so hopefully we will sit down at one of her table again- we had some good conversation with her last night and dh showed her his kindle and now she wants one

Rebecca

Nancy- those are the ones that live in Fort Myers- right? If they need something let me know and I can try and help out- don't have rom for company but DH is a fantastic listener when peole our in this situation. I also know that hospice down here s fabulous and really works well with the family- they may help Grams relax and wind down if the family is too much. I have seen them get rid of unwanted people at the facility before- if they are causing problems for the sick person and their immediate caregiver.

Rebecca

Deb - I've got a short week of classes (only today and tomorrow) but I have work possibly every day of the week, except Thanksgiving. :(

Oh well.

Flying by again (typed this up last night):
up
dentist
mail postcard

homework for cognitive neuroscience
breakfast? grab something to eat, at least....
pack bag
school
work
home

I'm working! Don't want to be here, but what can I do, I have bills to pay! Ah well.

Ann, we put the FUN in dysFUNctional! I love my family, really I do...

Princess has chorus this afternoon, DH will pick her up there. She thinks she only has a Web Log this week for homework, so it should be an easy week. We had a great time at The Wizard of Oz yesterday...well, most of us did, we have one girl who is just miserable. ALL the time. "I'm bored, I'm tired, I'm hungry, I hate this..." OMG! Just have fun!

Anyhow, hope everyone has a good day!

Thanks Rebecca.. Yes, it's Grams and Gramps from Ft. Myers. It's nice to know the hospice will get rid of unwanted people. Grams called DH this AM. As expected his mother left out lots of details and made some things out worse than they were. Grams cried when she found out they were coming down as she does NOT want them. DH told Gram they were headed down assuming she knew... she did not...therefore she cried. She and DH made a list of "chores" for them to do while there instead of sitting around and driving Grams crazy. DH also told Grams if it got out of hand to call me, he'd put me on the next flight.. They know I don't play nice when I don't have too and I'll put them all in their places... doesn't bother me at all... This is the same "mother" that is my kids' grandmother and she has NO contact with them.... she will not call them for anything...and we allow the kids to have contact with her...but because they are close to their grandpa (DH's dad) she doesn't like that... GROW up already!!

Nan,

A few years ago, when we were getting private placement for ds - our school district decided at the last minute (the day before school started) that they weren't going to place Max in the school we agreed on... Well after not getting anywhere with anyone on the phone I decided to visit the powers that be personally - so I packed the kids off to PBF (bless her) and marched up to the SPED office and ended up screaming in the Mayor's office.

Now all this happened quickly and I never changed out of my "lounge wear" which consisted of a bright green shirt and orange, pink and green stripped pants that my dear friends affectionately call my "clown pants" .

Suffice to say after a few hours in the Mayor's office we got ds's private placement and he started school the next day. Now whenever there is an issue - I simply say

"Don't make me put on my clown pants!!!"

Something tells me you have you own "clown pants" too!:goodvibes

Sending thoughts and prayers to Gram and Gramps...

So catching up from this weekend.

Good news, our friend/realtor invited us to her house for Thanksgiving. This works for me because of all work getting out of the apartment and into the house, the idea of making a big dinner for 2 people was not on my list. Now I just have to figure out what to bring.

The more interesting part of the weekend...fun in home ownership. Nothing serious wrong, but DH freaked out, which made me freak out. When we got our new fridge, we had hooked up what we thought was the existing water line to the ice maker. After 2 days, no ice. So we turned the valve off, and decided to put off investigating until we were done with the apartment. So this weekend was the investigation. What we found out was that the line we thought went to the ice maker actually went to the winterized swamp cooler. Which is what freaked DH out, because we've had 2 major storms since it was turned off and the white stuff still hasn't melted on the north side of things.

So we had to immediately go buy a ladder so DH could get on the roof and check things out. It was fine, a little water at the bottom, but no frozen and cracked lines. And to make matters worse, when we disconnected the swamp cooler line it had a small leak at the saddle valve that DH couldn't stop.

And for the ice maker line. The previous home owners had told us that it wasn't hooked up because the ice maker in their fridge was busted. But what we found was the line was in 2 pieces! So we didn't have a line to hook up. We decided that was too much for us newbies to tackle, and plus we had that leaking valve to deal with. So DH called a plumber to find out what the difference between weekend and weekday rates were. While he was on the phone, I got up there and figured out that the valve wasn't completely tight. DH was just using his hand and I used the wrench. So with the leak stopped we could at least avoid weekend rates.

Before we bought the house, I was a little concerned about stuff like this, because I have minimal experience, and DH has less than me. His Dad told him, "Maxwells don't do plumbing or electrical." The plumber is coming today to install a tee with connections to the ice maker and swamp cooler, and get rid of the unreliable saddle valves.

I am still playing the Indy Wii game. I am halfway done. So the bathroom still isn't cleaned. Although, I did get some other tasks done while DH was playing.

Hi Everyone. I've been not on too much in the last few weeks. So I've missed alot. Rebecca Happy Birthday. I think i read that somewhere!;)
Nan-sorry to hear about Gramps. Take care of that situation when the time arrives. You rock!
Hope- the joys of homeowners! good luck. glad you stopped the leak.
Rhonda- clown pants! that's funny.
Deb-glad you hair is all set now.
Christy-thank you so much for the card. LOVE IT! :goodvibes:hug:
Sorry if I've missed something else.

I have had a busy few weeks. I just keep telling myself that if i keep moving it won't hurt so bad. so i just keep moving and checking and checking and moving. Last week was a blur. And I REALLY don't want to deal with this week. UGH. my mom LOVED black friday. so what do i do this year? how can i face it? *sigh*

ok just wanted to pop in and say HI! thinking of all of you!

and Hope i thought about you ALL day yesterday. We went to the lego fest in ct and there was all this cool lego stuff. And i thought you dh would have loved loved loved it!

Sounds like fun. There was a show at one of local malls and the local LEGO group had a display. We went down, and DH talked with some of the guys. He's on their mailing list, and there are recent discussions about trying to meet more regularly. The suggested meeting place is just up the road from us a couple miles, so DH is excited.

Oh, and we have a working ice maker. Only took about an hour. DH is MUCH more relaxed.

I now have my pretty bunny hair back again.
and I bet you are a cute bunny. :)

I love my family, but we put the capital D in Dysfunctional. What wine doesn't need to be refrigerated after opening?

and here I thought I had the original dysfunctional family. I am thinking maybe a ski flask under your shirt would be the best way to go. Each time you have a quiet moment to yourself, you can take a swig. Yo ho, yo ho.

What is a swamp cooler? :confused3

Nanc, I feel bad for Grams. It must be so hard for her to place Gramps into Hospice but to be bombarded by relatives who aren't there to help her. OY

My to do list:

Up early again today, ugh
Empty dishwasher
throw a load of whites into the washer
Load woodstove
Clean kitty box
Feed kitty
Get DD up and ready for school
Stop at DD for a dunkachino, ahhh
Work
call DH and wish him Happy Birthday. :rolleyes1
Take DD to Special Olympic swim
Supervise bath and bed time

What is a swamp cooler? :confused3

It's also called an evaporative cooler. It's what many houses have, out here, instead of an air conditioning system. Hot air is cooled by a water fed system, and then the cool air is vented into the house. In the winter you have to make sure the water line is shut off and the water is drained, so that it doesn't freeze and cause chaos and destruction.
