The Crazy Life of a New Floridian & Ongoing TRs

What is up with this? I haven't been around for over a week - that's VERY unusual for me! What with my oh so exciting life and all...

Work is crazy busy right now - I work for an internet company that sells gas logs, fireplaces, grills, etc. We are doing record business this year, which is a very good problem to have! But I've been working late most nights (I work from home 8-5 Mon-Fri) just to stay caught up. I love it, but I hate it this time of year.

And because this is a shortened season since Thanksgiving was so late, we've lost a weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas - which really stinks because we're leaving the weekend before Christmas for Ohio, which means I've really lost 2 weekends!

I still have at least one more batch of cookies to make, more shopping, and packing - I think packing will be as much of a challenge as packing for Disney! It's been several years since I've been to Ohio in winter!!! Plus packing all the Christmas stuff, etc. Oh vey!

But I promise to try to update my TR later today or this weekend! Thank you all for being so patient!

Oh, and I also promise to catch up on everyone else's TR's soon - since Ally and I are staying overnight in VA on our way to Ohio, I'll have several hours of DIS time (and maybe a bottle of wine!) that night!

Quick update.....

Columbus zoo and SanDiego zoo and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo. Put em together and what have you got? A really strung out songwriter!

Seriously, where did they get those lyrics? Was Jack Hanna involved? I guess it makes sense though – mice turning into horses, dogs into footmen, whew – I’m not sure what’s worse, the condition of the songwriter at the time they wrote this, or me trying to figure it out!

Now this was the second time that Ally had been to BBB – the first was back in May when I decided to “splurge” since my in-laws paid for our trip.
I was one of those who used to see all the little girls all made up and say, in my b****iest voice, “Who would spend that kind of money to do that ?” Yeah. I said it. I even mentioned to Jeff that it was “stupid,” yada yada yada (can’t keep away from Seinfeld, can I?).

So now I’m “stupid.” I’m a sucker for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique! I cry as I watch the transformation. It’s just truly magical and I love every minute of it. I think next time I’m gonna make an appt for Jeff too. OK, maybe not. But I will continue to spoil Ally because she’s growing so fast and I want to hang onto the little girl years for as long as I can!

This was Ally back in May, with the Disney Diva ‘do – she was so nervous about having this done – she told her Fairy Godmother-in-training that she didn’t want it too “poofy” and was so very picky. I told FGIT to just do it normal and Ally would be fine. OMG! She was such a little diva the rest of the day!

Our appointment was for 3pm and we arrived right on time. I was a little worried because I had heard that the later in the day you have an appointment, the greater the chance for a delay. And we had dinner ADRs for 5pm.

We did wait about 20 minutes, but this transformation is so quick! It only takes 30 minutes from start to finish. Waaay quicker than any transformation I can make between at home Kara and going out Kara, if ya know what I mean!

This time she opted for the fairy tale princess look.

Here she is as she goes through the magical transformation.

I love the way they do it all with the girls’ backs to the mirror and then they turn them around for the “reveal.” Again, magical. Even Daddy gets a little choked up when he sees it. He’s been both times and when other dads ask him if they need to go with their daughters for this, he says, “Definitely.”

We didn't do the nails this time - last time she opted for the fake nails, and they lasted all of about 20 minutes. So we just did hair and makeup. We laugh when we see her choosing her eyeshadow. Jeff said, "wonder what slutty colors she'll choose this time." Actually, it's not much and it's applied very lightly so it just gives them a little glow. Nothing too slutty.

There is sooooo much gel, and spray, and shellack, and concrete, and anything else that holds solid, in their hair when they leave, that not even a ride on Space Mountain can move it!

We tried holding her upside down by her ankles, dangling outside the monorail, and still the hair stayed in place. Splash Mountain? The hair won. Big Thunder Mountain? The hair won. Well, you got the idea.

She kept complaining that her hair "hurt" so I tried loosening it, by putting my hands on either side of her hair and trying to pull it out a little. Nope. Not happening.

So being the loving and concerned mother that I am, I encouraged her to "suck it up" and we moved on! Whoops! There goes my mother of the year award... again!

Shortly after we left the Castle, we made our way to the monorail (for the dangling by the ankles thing) and set off for Grand Floridian for our 5pm ADR at 1900 Park Fare.

Back later with 1900PF pics and the Castle dripping icicles!

We are starting to get excited about our first Christmas as Disney trip. We leave a week from tomorrow

Hi Kara! Ally looks so cute! I'd love to walk around with my hair like that with the tiara and the make-up and the glitter. I just don't think anyone would think it would be that cute on an almost-30-year-old. In fact, it would probably look slutty on me. Yep, probably would...

Hi Kara! Hang in there! I've been anxiously watching all the track updates - we should get one in about another hour. I'll be super busy this afternoon buying supplies. I need to get more water, bread, and non-perishable food. Where did you buy your crank flashlight/radio? DH wants one now, but I don't know where to go to get one. Wal-Mart? Target?

I think it would be a good idea to put your patio furniture away. Things do get knocked around in the storm. We have little tikes stuff in our backyard that I need to take in. I'll definitely put the playhouse in the garage if the storm continues with the current projection, but won't take apart her slide playset.

I'd expect them to release official TS warnings for our area this afternoon and then look for school closure announcements soon after that. I'm sure Ally will get to stay home to keep you company!

They can be oh so cute, but they can also be little, well, let's just say conniving witches and leave it at that. Ally is getting to be very scheming as she gets older. I'll have to post later about her cheating incident at school. Oy vey!

It just got too crazy, and the above mentioned cheating episode meant that a punishment was in order, so we took away the Disney weekend. Bring back lots of pics!!!

Our DD turned 16 last month so we figure this is probably the best time to spend Christmas at Disney. Our two four-legged DDs (golden retrievers) will spend the week with our friends who live across the street and also have two goldens ... I joked with my GF that they need one more to have five golden rings

So Saturday night is Artist Point, Sunday night is Chef De France, Monday is CP with a late lunch at Tutto, Tuesday is dinner at 50s PT, Christmas Eve is Spoodles and Christmas Day is YSH.

Wegoshop is a grocery delivery service. We are DVCers and staying in a 1-bdr villa. I ordered important stuff like water and wine I also ordered stuff for breakfast, lunch and one dinner just in case we decide to hang out one night.

This trip is all about the holiday decorations for us as well as some downtime for DH. Hoping the weather will warm up so we can get some pooltime. I keep humming Kenny Chesney's "All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan."

Anyway, Christmas Eve dinner was originally going to be at Artist Point but DH asked me to change it to the first night (Dec. 20) since we are staying at VWL the first night So now we are having Christmas Eve dinner at Spoodles ... one of our favorites.

Christmas Day dinner will be at Yachtsman's. I am hoping that we will be able to have chateaubriand even though it isn't on the menu right now

DD asked this morning if next Christmas we can take a cruise for Christmas (last year we did a cruise over Thanksgiving week and it was wonderful!!). I wonder where she gets if from

DisneyJen - looks like you're gonna have great weather! Maybe a little pool time since the pools are heated right now. But it's supposed to be in the mid-70's here next week which means closer to 80 (or above!) in Orlando!

It is cold (okay for NC it's cold when the temp is 45) and gray here right now. I have been checking the temps on AccuWeather so I know what to pack.

Let's hope that forecast holds!
