I wonder if there is a way they can lower the crane during the day and work on the lights during the night - for people visiting for the first time, they won't be able to take pictures of just the castle.

Nope. Unfortunately, this is what you'll see:

We were fortunate enough last year that our first trip to MK was before the work started. A few days later the park was being decorated for the Halloween party and they began putting up the lights on the castle.

Some people on here, in the past, have photo-shopped the crane out of the picture.

It still stinks, but I more feel bad for the brides that have the crane killing their view. Several of them pay for photo packages. I wonder if Disney edits the crane out of their pictures for them? Hmm..

At least you can see the castle. When we were in Moscow, there was scaffolding all over St. Basil's Cathedral and on other churches and buildings on Red Square. That was a bummer. Can't photo shop that out without editing in a whole new building into your picture.

However, if that is the worst thing that happens on your vacation, it was a good one.

Are you sure it's for the Christmas lights and not something else? It seems a little early.

Nope, definitely Christmas lights. Saw them in person last year (8/23-8/31)

Also, this is the release on the DIS re the crane:

"Cinderella Castle- There will be a construction crane behind the Castle 8/21/-8/27/09. Lights are being installed for the Castle Lighting show later this year. The Enchanted Grove walkway will be closed from Sir Mickey's to the Fairytale Gardens. The smoking area will be moved behind the Castle Couture shop."

When we were there in 2006, they had the crane in place but fortunately I have an awesome Microsoft photo editing program that allows me to trace around the object, click my mouse, the object disappears, and the photo fills in with the background color (blue sky, in that case)..:goodvibes

It's the best thing since sliced bread.. LOL.. I can take anything out of a photo - even people I don't like..:rotfl::rotfl:
